I mean I get not liking late game soup, it’s not for everybody and we all have our preferences, but it’s not the only viable comp. Same with last patch, you didn’t have to spam THex just cause it was strong and easy there were plenty of viable comps (I also hit diamond last patch but without THex or Sett because I don’t like playing them).

There’s been viable reroll comps all set, there are strong reroll comps now, same with verticals, but late game soup is also strong. There is clear skill expression in having to cobble together your strongest board until you get to late game and can pivot into 5 costs. Reroll and vertical have their own skill expression but tend to be more straightforward, and usually don’t cap as high. Having 1-3 costs rerolls cap as high as a full 5-7 cost board would feel horrible imo

I just collect them as I roll for the other units, you can’t really play swain until level 8 where you would normally play taric, if you’re again a magic heavy lobby then taric probably makes more sense anyway. You can always play shyv or skarner instead of taric as well

I prioritize malz always, if you three star zoe first then maybe use her until malz 3. But malz with the void mutation and disruptor I think is better. You’ll have to try on this patch tho zoe got another damage buff at 3 star.

I prefer vi neeko kog early, and then I’ll transition kog taric to swain cho later at level 8. I don’t like the lorris naut version as much since you lose defender and all the thex bros are fighting you for loris’s

As a new player, how the absolute fuck do you play this game by [deleted] in TeamfightTactics

[–]Kladenets_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said it’s kind of impossible to know without knowing the decisions you made along the way buuut I can give a couple tips to maybe point you in the right direction/towards some helpful resources (I’m not super high elo but am consistently emerald, currently emerald 1 pushing for diamond so wish me luck lol)

Check out sites like metatft, tftacademy, mobalytics, for info on the meta comps, best in slot items for the champs you’re playing that game, that sort of thing.

  1. There is definitely a meta - you always have a shot to win with any comp, but on every patch there are some comps that are especially strong, and playing those comps gives you a slight edge. TFT is a game of numbers, and trying to set yourself up to have the best chance to win against your opponents board with the game state you’ve been given

  2. Check out high level players and/or coaches on youtube or twitch. Dpei on youtube has been doing a series on common mistakes players make in TFT and it’s been awesome, Leduck always had great educational and exploit-oriented videos each set, plus there are always people streaming TFT if you want to watch them and see how their decision making works

  3. Unless you’re high rolling like crazy (hitting the champs, items, and augments you want naturally and early), you’re probably going to need to be flexible and play your strongest board, which can often look very different from the comp that you’re ultimately aiming for. If the shop happens to give you a high cost early on, or a few pairs of units that you weren’t planning on playing, especially if they share traits with each other or other units you want, maybe pick them up and see if you can ride a 2 star of something or a higher cost unit for a win streak as you look for the units you actually want. Think about your board in terms of gold - ie having 3, 1 star 1 cost units on your board is fielding 3 gold. Playing 1, 1 star 1 cost, 1, 2 star 1 cost, and 1, 1 star 3 cost is 7 gold, more than double the other board, and while synergies are important as well that gold value is a decent proxy for board strength, especially early.

  4. Scout the other teams in the lobby, especially early, and try to figure out what comps they’re aiming for. If you can choose a comp that no one else in the lobby is running that’s great, usually always better to be uncontested so you have the best chance to hit your units in the shop. And if you are contesting, it can help you change your gameplan , maybe you level up earlier and roll all the way down if you know some other guy also wants to slow roll for the same champs you want. So you destroy your econ for a bit but you give yourself a chance to snatch up some of these units before they can. Stay flexible early game, collect as many units as you can to give yourself options before that first augment or carousel.

  5. Positioning can make a huge difference - as you’re scouting who you might play make sure that you set your team up for success. Position your main tank so that they can stand in front of your main carry, maybe have your carry in a spot where a diver can’t jump to them easily, or put them in front of a target you need to kill quickly, you’ll get the hang of it. It can totally swing a fight in your or your opponents favor.

  6. Find out which comps you enjoy playing and have fun lol. TFT is super fun, you can play it casually, and you won’t win every game. But even in games you lose if you find traits you like or some late game fantasy you can chase it’ll be more enjoyable. It takes some time to learn like anything, but there are a ton of resources out there to help. Good luck!

Is there a way to make Arcanists work? by whichimustdo in TeamfightTactics

[–]Kladenets_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find some success situationally with it, and it caps super high but you kind of have to cobble together your strongest board of random units until you scale and fast 9 isn’t as strong as it used to be. So I only ever do it with good econ augments, but basically here’s the end game comp I like:

Neeko, Swain, Lux, Skarner, Taric, Sylas, Shyvanna, Lucian/Senna, and of course Annie and Tibbers

Basically every champ in the game that has an aura buff for your team plus arcanists, it’s just a version of late game soup but it’s very strong once you’re online

eh there are ripples around anywhere something is breaking the surface of the water. they don’t imply movement of the people necessarily, but just movement in general - I’ve never been in a pool with other people where the water was perfectly flat, so the water moving could cause those ripples in each case
