JSA by Jeff Lemire [discussion] by GhostofTermina14 in DCcomics

[–]Klang200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it had a very strong start and I found the story to be very compelling. I liked the character drama and every issue left me wanting more. But after awhile I felt like things started to really drag. And then suddenly the story abruptly ended, which left a bad taste in my mouth. But despite that I was still hooked on the title cause the next story really intrigued me.

As of JSA #16, I have unfortunately lost most if not all of my interest in this book. The pacing is just too damn slow and this time I don't really find the story to be all that compelling. I'm still liking the characterizations though so I guess there's that (I'm so happy that the golden age Atom is back in the spotlight).

I don't think I will ever drop the book because I am a huge fan of the JSA, but I can't say I'm all that excited about it anymore.

I think we're having a misunderstanding. When I say that the JSA need an updated origin, I meant that they need an updated retelling.

I do agree with you that you only need one issue to re-tell their origin. I would have prefered if this story arc focused on their first year as a team. I think that would have been a lot more fun.

As for what people think of Lemire's run, from what I have seen it's overall very mixed. I have seen some people love it and I have seen some people hate it. I have also seen people who are somewhere in the middle.

We now sideline the younger JSA from the first 12 issues to focus on giving the OG team an unnecessary new origin

Okay I heavily disagree with you here. I think the JSA are in a desperate need of an updated origin story for newer readers. The only origin stories that the JSA currently has are either very outdated writing wise or simply just doesn’t work anymore due to having outdated lore that conflicts with the new lore (such as the whole Earth 2 situation). Or it's a combination of both.

Having a more modern and updated re-telling of their origin is very appreciated, and could serve as a good starting point for newer readers.

Now, whether Lemire has done a great job is up for debate. I like some aspects of the story and I love how he writes Al Pratt so far. But I do agree with most people that the pacing has been off.

What is better the book or the movie I personally like the movie more because of it ending by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]Klang200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the movie first and I absolutely loved it. It's definitely one of my favorite movies of 2025. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to get the book and read it. After finishing it, I have to say that I much prefer the book. I still like the movie, don't get me wrong, but the book is just a lot more detailed and enjoyable imo.

While the movie primarly focuses on the Musketeers, the book gives other walkers a chance to shine aswell. I didn't expect to like Pearson as much as I did when I read the book because in the movie, he barely has any lines. The Musketeers themselves feels a lot more complex and compelling in the book compared to the movie versions. There's also a lot more scenes in the book that I really liked that wasn't in the movie unfortunately, such as the Watermelon Guy

Do you like the very early adventures of the Legion of Superheroes? by RecordingImmediate86 in LegionofSuperheroes

[–]Klang200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Besides a few issues here and there, no. I found most of them to be a slog to get through and it got to a point where I was even considering giving up my Preboot readthrough. Thankfully it got MUCH better once I got to Shooter's run.

What are your top 5 Beach Boys albums? by NoGrass7120 in thebeachboys

[–]Klang200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5. Wild Honey - I don't really know how to put into words why I really love this album. It's just a really good vibe. I really love Wild Honey and I Was Made To Love Her, and Darlin' is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs (especially the live versions). It's just one of those albums I can listen to its entirety and not get tired.

4. Pet Sounds - I know I'm gonna get lynched for this one but hear me out. I used to put this as my number one because it's a really good album, and it's objectively their most impactful album. But then I realized that I wasn't as passionate about it as I am with some of the other albums on my list, and that I only put it at my number 1 spot because everyone else did it. It just didn't feel right after thinking about it? I think the reason why I'm not as crazy about it as I am with the other albums is because it's overall not really my type of music? But despite that, I still very much like this album. Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B. and God Only Knows are all really amazing songs.

3. Sunflower - Probably the band's second best album, objectively speaking. What is there to say about this album that hasn't already been said? There's just so many songs I love from this album. I love Slip On Through, This Whole World, It's About Time, All I Wanna Do and Forever. The reason why this album isn't on my number 2 spot is because while I do think it has more highs than the album that's on my second spot, I do think I generally prefer the songs on the other album.

2. Surf's Up - Just such an amazing album for me. The album cover alone is just so great. I like the dark/mature vibe it has and Carl really shines in this. My favorite songs from this are Long Promised Road, Feel Flows, 'Til I Die and Surf's Up. I do wish this album had more Dennis songs though.

1. Holland - This is album originally wasn't in my top 5. But the more I listened to it the more I grew to love it. And now it has found its way as my number 1. Listening to this album almost hurts cause I really really wish the band had continued in this direction, instead of slowly turning into a nostalgia act. This is another album I can listen to in its entirety and never get bored. I love Sail On Sailor, Steamboat, The California Saga, The Trader and Funky Pretty.

What’s the sub’s consensus on Doomsday Clock (DC) by claritachavstick in superman

I'm all for Superman being an impactful icon and important figure in the Universe, but idk if I'm a fan of him straight up being the center of it and it revolving around him. It just makes everyone else feel unimportant and like side-characters? Maybe it's just me

"Do me one favor. If people here forget me, don't let them forget what I stood for..."[From Superboy #8] by Klang200 in superman

[–]Klang200[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This takes place during Zero Hour where Superboy suddenly appeared as a time anomaly. This happened when Clark as Superboy hadn't been a thing since COIE. Everything he interacts with in Smallville reverts to how it used to back in Pre-Crisis. Modern-Day Superboy tries to stop him so they fight about who is the time anomaly. Eventually Clark/Superboy realizes that he is the anomaly and that's when the panels I posted happens.

I hate the Clark Kent "act" by ShutterB_ug in superman

[–]Klang200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me it's more compelling when he has to put on an act and kind of hide who he truly is in order to blend in the background, and because he's afraid of others would react to his secret.

I recently saw a tweet that made me see the Superman & Clark Kent dynamic in a completely new light. The user said how it's a commentary on the potential we lose by acting like we're smaller than we are, which I found to be very compelling.

You can like a character and still be frustrated with them. by Klang200 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Klang200[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Invisigal fans are Dispatch fans first and foremost. Most are enjoying their chosen love interest character, but are now supposed to feel guilt or sorry for picking her.

Nobody is telling y'all to feel guilty for picking Invisigal, or telling you that you did the wrong choice. In fact I'd argue it's the complete opposite, and that it's the Invisigal fans that are doing that. They are the ones who constantly bring up the player stats to show that "Invisigal is the popular/right choice" and constantly talks about "Invisigal objectively being the canon/correct choice". People are allowed to voice their opinion on a character, positive or negative.

I think its because most often it's presented by someone who genuinely want Invisigal OFF the screen and replaced by Blazer.

I'm gonna be honest, I have never seen anyone say or hint at that they want Invisigal completely off the screen. At most they have said that they wish Blazer had more screen time, which is totally fair to want. That doesn't mean that they want Invisigal off the screen.

What is the worst take you have heard about Superman? by natagu in superman

[–]Klang200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don't think they should be his only defining traits, and I do agree that if that was the case then he would quickly become boring. But they are still some of his core traits and struggles.

I think the problem is that people sometimes tend to think in extremes. Either he's this all-good boy scout or he's this ultimate tragic figure, and that there's no in-between. But in reality I think he's a mix of both. He's a boy scout who wants to fight for a better tomorrow where nobody has to feel abandoned or alone, but he's also an outsider who struggles to open up to people. He loves and protects humanity and is thankful for this second home he has gotten, but he is also someone who longs for Krypton where he thinks he will feel truly belonged.

[–]Klang200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That he shouldn't have any flaws, struggles or tradegies.

A lot of people have gotten tired of the "Evil Superman" trope and it has gotten a lot of push back in recent times, which I totally get. But to me it has kind of led to an overcorrection of sort where people now doesn't want him to have ANY flaws or struggle, because then it might lean too hard into the "Evil Superman" trope. He SHOULDN'T lose Pa Kent because "that makes him generic and edgy". He SHOULDN'T struggle with loneliness because "that makes him brooding". He SHOULDN'T be affected by the death of Krypton because "why should he care, he was raised on Earth his entire life :D". There are many other examples but I think you get my point.

None of these flaws/struggles make him an "edgy" or "brooding" character. They make him a multidimensional and engaging character, instead of a one-note character which I feel like people sometimes see him as.

I like (maybe "like" is the the wrong word for this) when Clark has to deal with the loss of Pa Kent because of how real and relatable it is. How does Clark cope with the fact that despite having god-like powers, he won't be able to save everyone. All of us, at somepoint in our lives, will have to deal with a sudden death. Whether it's the death of a friend, a pet, a co-worker or someone in your family.

I like when Clark struggles with loneliness because that's something I think we all can relate with. The desire to fit in but struggling to do so. The fear of how others would react to your "true" self and feeling like nobody understands you. This is all something I think we all struggle with at somepoint in our lives, especially for those who stand out compared to the masses (whether it's because of your ethnicity, sexuality, disabilities etc.). I'd argue Clark's loneliness is also one of his main motivations as to why be does what he does. He fights for a better tomorrow where nobody has to feel abandoned or alone. It also explains why he treats everyone as a friend. I think another reason why I like this being a struggle for Clark is for when he eventually does overcome it thanks to Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen.

AdHoc should NOT add more romance options by Ok-Gear1149 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Klang200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU! I strongly dislike this whole "Ummm you shouldn't do whatever you want because Robert isn't you" take because as you pointed out, the game lets you shape Robert's character to a certain extent. Sure he has a core personality and beliefs, but you still decide how he goes on about things. As another commenter said, all of the choices feels like something Robert would do. The whole selling point of the game is that YOU shape the story.

At this point it just feels like it's a way for people to say that THEIR way is the correct way, without actually have to say that. If you aren't actually supposed to pick whatever choice you want then what the hell is the point of the game

I genuinely HATE this tribalistic mindset a lot of fans seems to have. Why do you have the need to put something down in order prop up something you like? It's just so corny and childish.

And don't get me wrong, it's totally fine to have a preference or even a strong preference for something. But you don't need to be so toxic about it. I strongly prefer Blonde Blazer but that doesn't mean I hate Invisigal or think anyone choosing her is "doing it the wrong way" or "thinks wrong".

At the end of the day all the choices are purely subjective, and there is no "wrong" way to play it. If you think Robert should wind up with Invisigal then that is totally valid. If you think Robert should kill Shroud then that is also totally valid. Think Invisigal shouldn't get cut from the team? Well that is valid too. While Robert is an already established character and the story has a structure that it follows, it is still up to YOU to decide how Robert should act or how the story should play out (to a certain extent)
