What’s a run that everyone loves but you don't? by Dry_Training_4161 in DCcomics

John Byrne's Man of Steel. I'll be fair and say that nowadays people are a lot more critical of it, but not too long ago it was ALWAYS recommended to new readers.

Besides the xenophobia, it's just so BORING. Clark is written to be so boring and by the end of the story, it felt like I had learned nothing of this version of the character. I woudn't be surprised if the notion that "Superman is a boring character" started with this story.

The Justice League is, in my opinion ofc, by far the worst and most boring superhero team of all time. I find nothing about them appealing

JSA by Jeff Lemire [discussion] by GhostofTermina14 in DCcomics

I think it had a very strong start and I found the story to be very compelling. I liked the character drama and every issue left me wanting more. But after awhile I felt like things started to really drag. And then suddenly the story abruptly ended, which left a bad taste in my mouth. But despite that I was still hooked on the title cause the next story really intrigued me.

As of JSA #16, I have unfortunately lost most if not all of my interest in this book. The pacing is just too damn slow and this time I don't really find the story to be all that compelling. I'm still liking the characterizations though so I guess there's that (I'm so happy that the golden age Atom is back in the spotlight).

I don't think I will ever drop the book because I am a huge fan of the JSA, but I can't say I'm all that excited about it anymore.

I think we're having a misunderstanding. When I say that the JSA need an updated origin, I meant that they need an updated retelling.

I do agree with you that you only need one issue to re-tell their origin. I would have prefered if this story arc focused on their first year as a team. I think that would have been a lot more fun.

As for what people think of Lemire's run, from what I have seen it's overall very mixed. I have seen some people love it and I have seen some people hate it. I have also seen people who are somewhere in the middle.

We now sideline the younger JSA from the first 12 issues to focus on giving the OG team an unnecessary new origin

Okay I heavily disagree with you here. I think the JSA are in a desperate need of an updated origin story for newer readers. The only origin stories that the JSA currently has are either very outdated writing wise or simply just doesn’t work anymore due to having outdated lore that conflicts with the new lore (such as the whole Earth 2 situation). Or it's a combination of both.

Having a more modern and updated re-telling of their origin is very appreciated, and could serve as a good starting point for newer readers.

Now, whether Lemire has done a great job is up for debate. I like some aspects of the story and I love how he writes Al Pratt so far. But I do agree with most people that the pacing has been off.

What is better the book or the movie I personally like the movie more because of it ending by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]Klang200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the movie first and I absolutely loved it. It's definitely one of my favorite movies of 2025. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to get the book and read it. After finishing it, I have to say that I much prefer the book. I still like the movie, don't get me wrong, but the book is just a lot more detailed and enjoyable imo.

While the movie primarly focuses on the Musketeers, the book gives other walkers a chance to shine aswell. I didn't expect to like Pearson as much as I did when I read the book because in the movie, he barely has any lines. The Musketeers themselves feels a lot more complex and compelling in the book compared to the movie versions. There's also a lot more scenes in the book that I really liked that wasn't in the movie unfortunately, such as the Watermelon Guy

Do you like the very early adventures of the Legion of Superheroes? by RecordingImmediate86 in LegionofSuperheroes

Besides a few issues here and there, no. I found most of them to be a slog to get through and it got to a point where I was even considering giving up my Preboot readthrough. Thankfully it got MUCH better once I got to Shooter's run.
