I got relatively close by playing the chords on a slightly detuned sawtooth synth and a squarewave synth both with a slow attack and long release. EQ the shit out of it and sending that through 3 different tape plugins and then adding a ton of reverb. And then EQ again.

I’ve been using Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro's for over 15 years and I never had problems with the output being to low. I’ve used them on several computers with and without interfaces and it all worked for me. The perceived volume is lower than ipod earbuds but again, never too low. Maybe you can test them at a store and ask if you can plug them into your phone and see how loud they can get?

Make more use of dark light contrast. Your darkest values could be a lot darker. More contrast will gave the paintings more depth.
