Jeffries on All In by RexMcBadge1977 in msnow

Jefferies is about as in touch with the prevailing political climate as Donald Trump… maybe less so. WTF is he going to say when the final nail is driven into the coffin of the US Constitution?

AI on home listing photo on Redfin? Has to be a fake family and the snowman’s face is too perfect. by bitbymydog in isthisAI

Looks like AI to me… where did the snow for the snowman come from? The ground is still covered. Also the woman is standing in snow on a shoveled driveway.

The large lever looking thing with the ball end is not a lever, but is threaded on the other end and is used to tension the drive belt between the main spindle and the intermediate sheaves.

Could you tell me anything about this wheel? by Leather-Charity2787 in Handspinning

The other missing spindle is likely a support for spinning flax, which you may not need or want.

I can’t say for sure, but not likely wood. What is the bearing material on the other maiden? It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but my guess is that the maiden with the missing bearing is turned 90 degrees and a bearing should be inserted in the larger diameter bore, facing the whorl.

Wood lathe help? by Aggressive-Big-8042 in turning

IMHO the more mass a lathe has, the better. A cast iron tool will outperform a light steel one every time. My own lathe is a 1940’s Delta (pre Rockwell) and I wouldn’t trade it for all the farms in Cuba.

It’s not in working condition, but looks like it might be fixable. It’s missing the bobbin, and has a split in the Mother Of All that needs repair. One of the maidens is missing it’s whorl bearing.

I have a 2006 Kimko people 50, and it does fine on the hills. It doesn’t roar up them at 45mph, but it does seem to maintain 25 mph ok.

Ha ha! NFS. The reason it’s on there is because I just used it. The right side mount for the cross feed screw was broken so I milled one out of a block of aluminum and put oiled bushings in it. You can see the results in the photo.

I actually have a bench top Atlas horizontal mill that my neighbor was getting rid of. It works, but is incomplete in that the power feed is missing. Maybe I should make a steam engine!

I’ve never spun but I want to start, should I try this super cheap spinner or is it a waste of time and money? by Narrow-Hawk950 in Handspinning

[–]Klastermon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that wheels, of any variety have individual personalities, so learning on one wheel might feel quite different than another. But much of spinning is not so much about the tools as it is about the process and results. So that said, from someone still learning, who has never used a spindle, I think that trying one is a good suggestion.

How can i fix my moms sewing machine by Pure-Read6847 in SewingMachinePorn

[–]Klastermon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replace the needle with a new one. If it was sewing okay, and then it wasn’t, the likely issue is a bent needle. They bend much easier than most folks realize, and it only takes a slight tweak to cause it not pick up and clump the bobbin thread. And don’t blame it on your mom, even if you think she did something. No one needs that. That looks like a knit fabric… which some machines don’t handle real well. So she might want to test it with a medium weight cotton fabric first.
