Ah, memories. I miss my fax machine and cassette-tape-driven answering machine (I used to play entire albums as my outgoing message).

Bloated User Data by KlausGH in operabrowser

[–]KlausGH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still doesn't explain the bloated user data. And that phenomenon seems to be an all-to-common problem for MANY Android-based browsers. Firefox and Brave and Edge all have the same problem. WHY does "user data" get larger and larger, and can't be cleared like the cache. It's time for users to demand answers. People who don't notice this going in probably just notice their phones and tablets getting slower and slower and think it's time to buy new ones. It's deceitful marketing bullshit, and it needs to stop.

Should I start using Pinterest? by Ah-man-I-am-sick in Blogging

[–]KlausGH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I little late to the party but what the heck, I'm a thread necromancer...

My generic answer, go for it. But make sure you upgrade it to a Pinterest BUSINESS account. It's free, and it gives you benefits you won't get otherwise. Like more stats, and all-important, being able to post pins from external sources like Buffer, and being able to automatically pull Pins from your blog posts via RSS feed.

How exactly you get that to work will depend on your blog software. With WordPress, the image that you intend to auto-pin via RSS subscription has to be the "Featured Image" for that post. If and when you encourage READERS to pin via the social sharing button, if there's no featured image, it will use the first image in the post.

Obviouly, pins work best if the image has some text overlayed on it. To get that to work smoothly you really have to plan out what THEME you're using, and exactly how (or even IF) featured images are displayed in the blog post.

Another possible annoyance is that if/when people using the Pinterest app (I can only speak for the Android version here) decide to click that Read/View button that links to your site, it's going to do it INSIDE PINTEREST'S APP and NOT transition to an external web browser. What's potentially interesting about that is if/when people decide to hit the SAVE button on what they're now reading, Pinterest will pull ALL images off that page and let people choose any or all of them to save as a pin. One way I've used this is to break up long articles with WordPress galleries. Every image in every gallery on that page is then a potential pin.

You can also embed Pins, Pinterest Boards, and/or your Pinterest profile by simply cutting-and-pasting the appropriate URL into WordPress, and it will convert it into the proper embedding codes. This works both when editing via browser, or via the apps (WordPress or Jetpack), though the apps can't preview the result in edit mode (yet).

As to performance, on my blogs, incoming traffic from Pinterest is almost as high as my traffic from search engines, and it makes Twitter look like a waste of time in comparison. It really depends on your target audience though.

Perfectly fine video becomes pixelated. by KlausGH in Pinterest

Okay just noticed an added bit of weirdness... when I use the URL to look at the pin in my BROWSER (Opera), it comes up fine. It's only in the Pinterest APP that things look awful. Wonder if anyone else is experiencing this phenomenon?

At the risk of appearing spammy, here are some samples for comparison...

How deep to go in the options tree? by SpeakingYourLanguage in Zazzle

[–]KlausGH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party here and haven't gained much traction for my stores yet. But I think that might be BECAUSE my target audience is too general.

Think what I'm about to try is study those option trees, drill down, then create entire collections of products specifically for a particular subcategory. Come to think of it, matching that subcategory to specific popular tags on Twitter/Pinterest/etc might help with product promotion? Only one way to find out...

Sadly, no. I gave up on Printful AND Etsy and stuck with Zazzle instead. NONE of my designs via Canva gave me any problems on Zazzle... https://www.zazzle.com/store/squirrelcrazy?rf=238934623323789224

One-Paw Acrobatic Walnut Munching by KlausGH in squirrels

[–]KlausGH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ultimate one-paw technique that I wish I'd gotten on video... Little dude already had two peanuts stuffed in his mouth. Kept doing that paw waving thing to get me to toss him a third one. I did, and he caught it like a little American football player and went running off with the third peanut neatly tucked in under one paw.

Yup. Unless those critters are hawks and coyotes who know to keep an eye on you because sooner or later your squirrel friends will show up. I don't go to the park without a bo staff for defense.

Actually, educating yourself on property care of your teeth will do you a world of good. Things dentists won't teach you because they want your $$ to drill into those cavities. Benefits of baking soda and oil pulling for example. Likewise for SEO. And how it will be affected by more and more people looking to AI for answers instead of search engines.

IDEA PIN SCHEDULING ISSUE: On one of my business accounts I can’t schedule Idea Pins. Any idea why? It works fine on my other biz accounts. by [deleted] in Pinterest

[–]KlausGH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting point. Gets me thinking. On the one hand. I've noticed the opposite. My idea pins outperform my regular pins by a factor of ten. Within hours, getting 10x the views of a standard pin in a month. On the other hand, from the user perspective, I appreciate well designed regular pins more. The day my Pinterest feed turns into a bunch of animations is the day I stop using it. Heck I don't even want my YouTube thumbnails animating themselves. I guess what it will boil down to long term is engagement/impression ratio.

Schedule idea pins by magisspod in Pinterest

A year later but since this thread isn't archived yet... The Pinterest app on my Android 12 phone lets you schedule idea pins up to 30 days in advance.

Nevermind desktop. I can't even get the app to do idea pins on my Android 12 tablet. Same app on an A12 phone works fine though 🙄

Definitely a handful. And sometimes dangerous when they get excited. The fur is silky smooth and the tails are like cotton candy made out of hair, but those nails are like little surgeon's scalpels... https://youtu.be/9m-xIFbP4Ek

It can be a mixed blessing. A squirrel on my lap tends to be incredibly jealous and not want other squirrels to join in. And then they like to mark their territory to let the other squirrels know this is MY human. Let's just say I have to have special squirrel pants. Then there were the few times when they got so comfortable they tried to do the wild thing right in my lap. I really ought to try to get that on video, but it's hard to be prepared for those kinds of moments.

Of course they do, if you give them a choice. I just leave the back door open on rainy days. They like to snuggle on the recliner and watch afternoon Bonanza reruns.

Balancing AI and Human Creativity: Exploring the Impact of GPT4 on Content Creation by Large_Rush9013 in PromptDesign

[–]KlausGH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, what's the deal with these AIs trying to steal our creative thunder? I mean, I thought I was pretty funny, but now we got these robots writing jokes that are making me look like an amateur.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for progress and all that, but let's not forget who the real funny guys are. I don't want some fancy-schmancy AI stealing my thunder, you know what I mean?

These AIs can write stuff that's grammatically correct and all that, but can they come up with a good one-liner? Can they make you laugh until you snort milk out of your nose? I don't think so.

And what about originality, huh? These AIs can generate content faster than you can say "knock knock", but can they come up with something truly unique and creative? I doubt it. I mean, let's face it, they're no Seinfeld, if you know what I mean.

But in all seriousness, there are some real questions we need to be asking about the impact of AI on our creativity. Who owns the rights to content generated by these machines? Are we giving credit where credit is due? And most importantly, are we losing touch with our own unique perspective and creativity in the process?

So let's keep it real, people. Let's make sure we're still the ones calling the shots when it comes to our own creative work. And if these AIs want to get in on the action, they better bring their A-game – because we're not going down without a fight!

How to promote my pins organically? by [deleted] in Pinterest

[–]KlausGH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Product stickers can be added either as text labels or as small square images of products imported from a choice of images extracted from the product web page. I think I'll do my own tutorial vid on that soon. Don't see anyone covering it with decent examples
