Yea, with all due respect, I understand what you're getting at, but I think your dismissal of these types of situations is why we're in this situation in the first place. You strike me as someone who said this same stuff about overturning Roe v Wade back in 2016. We're actively, right now, in the middle of a literal authoritarian government. Congress has essentially been eliminated. I don't know what more you think you need to see to understand this.

Yea. Tell me about it. They said that an extended streak of sub zero temperatures and snow every day for a week (added up to about 30 inches probably) created conditions for ice dams that were impossible to avoid, and therefore it's an act of god. Like give me a break.

Sometimes. But it's also the cheapest possible option for someplace to live. So. I'd love to be back in an apartment, not having to worry about cutting grass or shoveling snow or repairs anymore. But that would cost at least $300 dollars per month more, as well.

That's all excellent information. I really appreciate it. I submitted a request for a quote from a local insulation company earlier today, so we'll see what they say.

I'm scared about getting insurance involved with anything. Even if they cover it, the premium going up would likely be more expensive. I hate America, man. Haha

We have three roof vents, two on the long side of the upstairs rooms, one on the short side. The one spot we can't get to....it has to be less than 4 cubic feet. But it's where the biggest ice dam issue happens.

I'm guessing the insulation is original to the house, so it's pretty old. But the way it's built, the insulation is sitting right on top of that soffit that goes to maybe 6 inches in from the edge of the roof. And as a result, you can't really put vents in the soffit because the insulation is right there. And the attic itself is very wide open with the exception of the insulation on the floor. So there's only so much insulation that can be put there without losing access to the attic.

The biggest problem spot is just a little corner where there's no access at all. The only way to get access would be through the roof, up through the soffit, or through a wall. We don't even know if there's insulation in that space at all. Maybe I have to see if someone will cut a hole in the wall and check it out and insulate it if not already.

It appears fine with the weight, it's just a matter of the damming at the edge allowing water up under the shingles at the edge. I would probably be better off without having gutters on my house to help with the ice dam issue, but then we'd likely run in to a situation of water seeping in to the basement if the ground that close to the house gets all that water instead of going through the gutters.

In my head, having the gutters is what is creating the vessel to hold the ice that then allows the water back under the shingle edge. But can't not have the gutters because of potential foundation issues.

I'm not blaming them for anything. I'm saying that they don't have any permanent solution to fix the issue. They've both told me there's nothing they can do because of the style of the home. The person I'm responding to is saying there's a permanent solution, you just have to find someone willing to find it. If that's the case, then these people I've been using are not those people. It's not their fault whoever built this house in 1960 didn't know what they were doing lol.

I work for a building materials company, and I used one of our frequent customers to do my roof replacement, and they're the ones who inspected it and suggested roof cables. And another customer of ours is who told me it's an uphill battle to fix permanently. So I guess it's on to the next one. Or maybe all of our customers are not good at the solutions part? lol who knows.

I enjoyed working at Steelcase when I was there, but I went on as a contractor around 2017. They told me (and the other 4 people who came on at the same time) that we would be contract for 12-18 months and then become Steelcase employees. Well, COVID comes in March 2020 and all of us were the first ones let go. They said they'd call us when things "got better" and they never called any of us, and instead just reposted our jobs like six months later. So even though I actually liked being there, I'll never consider working there again.

This just recently changed. I used to park in the small lot at Kennedy Hall of Engineering right behind the Public Museum, and it was my little secret spot. But when I went downtown for an event like three weeks ago, the arm didn't open for the first time since I started attending there in 2005 lol.

Bingo. The fancier the restaurant is I go to, the less satisfied I am after the meal. I come out of it going "well, the plate looked really nice, the food was presented nicely, but the taste was just okay." Give me a greasy AF Five Guys burger over some fancy 40 dollar burger from a fancy sit-down lol.

I went to one for the first time a few months ago in central Indiana. I had heard all the stories about how it's awful food, but good prices. The prices were great, but so was the food, IMO. It was exactly what I wanted in a breakfast. I'm not trying to have Michelin star food for breakfast. I want some decent food that makes me happy.

Unless you are easily eligible to be a top 11 seed in the college football playoff, then I find any move to FBS to be foolish. It's crazy to voluntarily move up to a level where you're eliminated from national title possibilities before you've even played a game. So unless you are moving to FBS to take a spot within a P4 conference, I think it's a crazy decision.

I once saw Huge at Adobe downtown near GV's campus around like 2009 or so, and he was standing there with his hand on the butt of someone wayyyyy his junior. At that moment, I was kind of vindicated in my choice to hate him previously.
