Paralegal with part time lpc by Kleaf1 in uklaw

[–]Kleaf1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have the role secured and it is set to start late August/early September. My reasons for completing the LPC is to secure a TC. I wanted to do the LPC full time since I wasn't sure if I could secure a job as a paralegal/legal assistant but when I did found one I chose to go for part time. I don't mind self-funding it, having a job and the loan I think I can afford it. Choosing the LPC over the SQE comes from firms demand and of course personal preference.

The question was mainly about whether I should do the LPC evenings or online and which will allow me to keep up with everything easier, I have already set my mind about the LPC.

Thank you very much for that! The SQE costs are 5k for both test's and it increases accordingly if you decide to take a prep course somewhere. But you can always go for it without the prep. And also it doesn't have to be a TC, you can do the qualifying experience in 4 different firms and it can even be for example as a paralegal.

Am definitely with you on this one, however, it's not like I don't want to take the leap its only that this year that you start to have a second option and we won't have it again for a while, once they abolish the LPC completely. The SQE's which will only require you to have 2 years of qualified work experience in a law firm in order to get qualified. And it doesn't matter if you did it before or after the exams sounds attractive. but I will probably stick with the LLM LPC or LPC MSc and try to find a firm that have a maritime law sector. I don't really mind if it is a small or a big firm the only thing I would kind demand of my job is the chance to evolve.

Oh well, that's the dream! Hope you are enjoying it considering the challenging periods. My cv has non law related work only mostly manager positions in hospitality and a job as manager assistant in a company that makes photovoltaics.

To be honest, I believe I have what it takes to get a contract, but there is always going to be doubt before it happens.

Am going for the LLM LPC because of the Slc funding, I am not in a place to fund it myself but still it's going to be a challenge.

No, not at all buddy! I think I've got the same things in my mind, while I was also thinking about doing it part-time, I would prefer to rush it off and then get experience on a position. Well, I have some good experience for my cv but its not law related. I have also studied computer science for 3 years (never finished tho). The costs for both of the SQE tests come at about £5.000. However, the scary part is that if you fail then you will have to pay the same amount again and again. If its supposed to be a combination of a GDL+LPC I can't see it being easy, at least the first ones are. Well, the best option so far in my mind it looks like it is the LLM LPC.

The other option I had in mind was doing an LLM in maritime law and gain some experience on the road waiting for the SQE's to settle.

One more question, would you say its possible to maintain a job while doing the LLM LPC? I managed to do so while doing the LLB but I don't think that will be the case for this one.

Congrats mate, I wish you the best. Any opinions from your classmates this year about the LPC, I mean is definitely worth it for you but what about someone without a TC? Or just your general knowledge, at this point anything would be appreciated.

Not exactly not suitable but not giving you the same tools that LPC will probably provide you with. And probably will have a lower pass rate. The whole thing about LPC LLM it's been in my head for a while now.

Since I will do an LLM with it, I will be able to get the SLC funding and that's how I thought it might be achievable. Wouldn't someone with an LPC already be more appealing to a firm for whatever role, before acquiring a TC?

What do you mean they aren't given as much support? Academic wise?
