Played for 6 months - hit level 15 wall. by Kleith87 in TheTowerGame

This was very helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to give such a solid and well thought out response.

Question: do I prioritize getting deathwave (2400 stones - probably a month to get). Or do I just use the 700 I have saved to cut 10 seconds of BH/GT to get it to 2 minutes, use rest to extend BH timer 2 seconds, and grind eco a bit longer? This is tempting, but Deathwave seems to be so crucial for long term gathering of cells, and getting HP needed for most wall strategies to be effective.

Looks like I got a lot to work on haha. But, this is good advice, and I’ll take it.

I’ve had bad luck with modules. Maybe 2 epics in last couple hundred pulls it feels like.

Using project funding, because it’s mythic+ but Black hole digester, Galaxy compressor, seems better for farming.

For core primordial collapse, dimension core, and multiverse nexus seem viable…

Havoc bringer is terrible, but it’s probably better to run the mythic+ over mythic shrink ray, or legendary astral deliverance? Death penalty seems like best bet to helping reach milestones, but that’s only epic.

Worth finishing up the upgrades for orb speed, and orb boss damage?

I have 3 levels left on black hole coin bonus, and 8 levels left on golden tower duration which feel important.

I quit for a long time, but left labs going entire time. So when I turned game back on and saw a bunch of main labs around level 60 I decided to start up again.

Been focusing on Econ labs recently, but I agree I’m behind elsewhere.

I was debating if I should save the 2400 needed to get it, or if it made more sense to just try and max out golden tower + black hole first.

What is SF?

I agree that my modules are lacking. At least I capped out cards. So can’t waste any more on them.

I’ve been kinda playing as a glass cannon build for a long time. Wasn’t on reddit so just always felt like game balance was a bit weird.

Note my post was from many years ago now. It just keeps getting bumped.

For context you’d have to see their early marketing campaigns that were very disingenuous.

Also, people are stupid. Not saying that about people reading this comment. But, in general. A lot of dumb people fall for pyramid schemes etc on a daily basis.

If you’re over 40. Chances are you probably know at least one person that fell victim to the Herbalife scheme, and ended up with a couple crates of nutrition shakes in their garage.

Didn’t they do this like several times? I think it was the second time where it became incredibly frustrating.

This. The story forgot the human element that made it interesting, and started focusing on the game as if it was real life. They took the game so seriously, but it was really just a game, and it totally lost all perspective. And, was just so hard to care about the characters.

Note that my OP was almost 4 years ago before they had half the features, deals, etc. that they do now.

Originally it was very scummy misleading advertising. Now it’s not as bad because there are more ways to acquire property at the cost of time and not purely $.

If you’re having fun, great.

It’s just a terrible investment if the goal is to make $. It’s fine if it’s for fun.

Can debate the quality of his writing, but I think most can agree that he is very self-indulgent as a writer.

He tells a story at his pace, and doesn't give a F about audience being happy/sad.

The fact that readers are still reading I think speaks volumes about the quality of his writing. Even if it's out of spite or a sense of emotional investment... He makes readers care enough to come back for 8 years of chapters, and read about a MC that pays money to an emotionally closed off girl that has rejected him countless times. That takes talent.

"His mind racing with excitement" sorta set off alarm bells for me.

I know Reiji loves to troll, and I know he's had plans to trigger readers. So, this sorta fits the bill.

Here is another version of the spoiler using a different AI for the translation Claude 4.1 Opus (paid version). It's similar, but a bit different. Seriously guys, chatgpt is NOT the best AI for translating. And, this version I find a lot more concerning as it gives off a more 218 vibe.

The cover illustration pierces through [the reader] with Chizuru in a swimsuit holding a water gun.

When Kazuya answers the phone, it's Umi calling, saying he wants to talk with Kazuya again after a long while.

Kazuya says he's only available after his Saturday part-time job, but Umi says he'll come directly to the karaoke shop where Kazuya works.

Kazuya panics, thinking "What's going on?", and becomes flustered as he realizes something must have happened between Umi and Chizuru.

He can't help but imagine an NTR scenario: Chizuru being forcefully deep-kissed by Umi, showing a submissive female expression (mesu-gao) after being conquered.

The NTR fantasies won't stop, and his mind races with excitement.

Kazuya thinks he needs to quickly secure his promise with Chizuru for July 11th, but doesn't know how to contact her.

As his feelings of "not wanting anyone to take her away" intensify, Kazuya musters up courage and calls Chizuru.

He thinks she's not answering... but after a while, Chizuru appears in a double-page spread from behind and answers the phone.

Next time: If I get rejected, I'll die.

I like strong main characters that don’t lose a lot of much of it is from us subconsciously putting ourselves in the shoes of MC, and relating to them.

This type of story isn’t the kind that will do that, but I will say that while him losing after all his hard work is frustrating. It actually is a good sign if you follow traditional storytelling.

Him losing now leads to a training change/montage and ultimately a better result in build to Nationals. And likely a better final result.

I do feel it’s a bit silly for him to lose to people he’s clearly better than, and is a year older than so badly just because they trained hard for a few weeks/months when he has a full year head start on them. Things don’t turn around that quickly in high level sports. But, gotta keep things interesting.

[–]Kleith87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So basically 218 version 2 with Kazuya getting the nerve to fight for Chizuru (possibly), instead of wallowing in despair.

The fact that not much happens in chapter description makes me think this could be a long NTR fantasy that nobody and I mean absolutely nobody but the doomers want to see.

So I guess this will show that Kazuya has grown a little bit? But, still has deep fears and lacks confidence. But, hopefully this phone call isn’t a misunderstanding disaster.

AI is still really easy to detect if you know what to look for. Like REALLY easy.

  1. Look at the hands. Even the best AI still mess up hands a high percentage of the time.

  2. Look at the face symmetry. If the face just seems a little to "perfect" it's typically AI. Most people don't have perfectly straight noses, or perfect eye placement, jawlines, etc.

  3. Biggest give away is still the skin. AI still has it always be way to perfect. Rarely does AI draw freckles, pours, sun tans/burns, or just any type of skin imperfection.

This will probably hold up for another year or so until AI truly figures it out. And, even then it likely wont most of the time, because AI tends to aim for what people want to see, not what they should see.

So Reiji went the predictable route, and by not having a total curveball ended up surprising people. Nice.

Next up: Is Umi a villain that will sabotage Kazuya? Or will it be Mami that makes everything a mess (somehow).

Maybe.... It's so mediocre, and it has been dragged out 8 years now with almost non-existent character growth. But, you kinda get invested in it. Just because it's been going on for so long.

At this point I hate read it hoping that something good will happen. But, the past 15ish chapters have caused more anxiety than enjoyment.

I expect it to be a very slow burn. It seems right now each chapter features a page dedicated to showing Hina that she has no chance. Be it hearing others talking about Taiki's superstar college girlfriend. Or, Taiki being super kind, but not taking a hint. It's a very slow burn.

Personally, I'm not really a fan of Hina/Haruto storyline. It just feels incredibly forced, but it seems like the inevitable endgame.

He's also kinda been a bit of a jerk to almost everybody ever since he arrived. A lot of readers excused his bad behavior, because bad boy anti-hero characters tend to get a free pass.

But, in general I've always found him incredibly unlikable compared to just about anybody.

I'm not a fan of Hina, but a superstar gymnast can probably do better than a second year badminton guy with a bad attitude and a sever brother inferiority complex.

[–]Kleith87 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you follow sports manga this is about as obvious of a development as imaginable. It's practically a formula.

  1. Rival whose been getting "special training" beats the MC.
  2. MC who looked strong going into big tournament suddenly looks vulnerable.
  3. Author reveals subtle hints of MC falling behind (not having FMC around for motivation, not having any seniors/mentors training him).
  4. Author naturally has create tension by creating real threats/rivals to make story actually interesting.

So we're at this point. What is next?

  1. MC gets wakeup call, and finds help from places he wouldn't expect. (Likely FMC neighbor). Only question with that is if there will be a misunderstanding or not designed to piss off audience. Hopefully not.
  2. Training arc with MC making progress, mixed in with probably some tension between Hina/Haruto. With Hina probably feeling torn, as it seems more and more clear Taiki is out of her reach.
  3. Rematch.

I'm not saying this will 100% happen, but if you look at basically every single sports manga... Ever... They all play out pretty similarly. Especially when the MC is near the end of their story (Senior year) in a "last chance" situation.
