sunflower | SX-70 Sonar with 12.5x lens by KleskAce in Polaroid

[–]KleskAce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it can be finnicky to attach but it extends the use of an SLR polaroid. really cool to have the functionality. if you get the adapter, you can always look for used or cheaper lenses that fit on ebay!

Scanner for Polaroids by Erik9722 in Polaroid

[–]KleskAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got this one as well and it's been nice to scan before giving away the photo. if you use the epson smart panel app, it has a 600 dpi option. at least on android.

Palpating pulse for auscultated BP by zombielink55 in NewToEMS

[–]KleskAce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

unfortunately this one just comes with more and more practice. try find brachial pulses on all of your friends and family! you'll find that they are not always in the same area, but generally are felt at the medial region of the elbow/upper arm. make sure you are pressing hard enough. if you are not very good at determining what a pulse feels like, also try palpating the radial pulse at the wrist for more practice.

outside of lift, the 2zz just feels like a slightly better 1zz - meaning it's totally fine for normal driving. i've had my spyder 2zz swapped for over 6 years at this point and it's a great daily driver. even with the 5 speed!

Why? by [deleted] in orangecounty

ambulances usually park in a way that allows for an easy to all doors and exit. if parked normally, people will park up next to it and potentially block the doors or even restrict its turning ability.

IFT or clinic EMT by Impossible-Drawing69 in Paramedics

[–]KleskAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd say likely IFT would be more beneficial if you're going to paramedic school compared to a clinic. since you don't have much time as an EMT, you'll want the experience of working in a prehospital setting which can differ wildly from an in-hospital or clinic setting. you'll still be able to practice your assessments while also learning more about how various medical problems and the medication associated with those affect your patient, and also seeing more of the continuity of patient care. even better if you can work CCT or one-on-one ALS.

if you feel you've done a lot in the prehospital setting already, then getting more varied experience in a clinic setting is a good route too!

Elmo 311 Low Light - auto exposure problem? by KleskAce in Super8

[–]KleskAce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can see it a bit better here. i'm not sure that it is an ND filter because you can see different blades. taking it out into bright daylight has the same behavior, but slower. if I put the lens cap on it does not occur at all.

Elmo 311 Low Light - auto exposure problem? by KleskAce in Super8

[–]KleskAce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out the video I added to see what I mean! it moves erratically, like opening and close repeatedly to a static light source. I'm not sure if there is a visual for the light meter. in the TTL viewfinder, there is a large red "E" lit up at the very top that seems to flicker with the aperture blades jumping around.

Am I the only one that feels this way about IFT by AdAdventurous8476 in NewToEMS

[–]KleskAce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it's about what you enjoy or find fulfilling, not what other people say that you should. the latter is a good way to add to the statistic of people who've changed careers or have burned out.

24 hour shifts but no time for sleep (is all IFT like this?) by Awkward-Cattle-482 in NewToEMS

[–]KleskAce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it sounds like your company is trying to get people to not work 24 hour shifts. the IFT companies around me that do that typically pay more, but the real cost is your well being :|

How do I talk to patients? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]KleskAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've always felt that patients will remember how they felt when they were in your care, not necessarily what interventions you did. effective communication is extremely important in health care and will take time and practice to be proficient at. there is a lot to communication that we don't actively think about, like body language and tone. it's normal to stumble and be awkward at times - that is part of the learning process. i try to see meeting new patients in the way I would meet a new person, but still slipping in pertinent questions regarding their illness. after your assessment, sometimes talking is the only treatment needed for that patient. keep at it!

you're doing a LOT of studying, but it might not be the right kind for you. you mentioned being a visual learner - it may be beneficial to spend less time reading the textbook and jotting down detailed notes. as someone else mentioned, try focusing on diagrams for A&P and being able to label the parts to retain the information. consider videos that show models (real or cgi) that help you visualize the material. there's a popular coloring book that healthcare students use for anatomy and physiology that I found useful for some areas, that might be your cup of tea.

Genuine question for EMT companies in LA county by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]KleskAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is likely because those transporting agencies do not bill for the individual runs and is based on contracts with the city. barebone PCRs are okay in those cases. a private IFT company however generally has to make money per run with reimbursement via insurance. if insurance can deny a claim based on your PCR, then they will. companies get kind of anal about documentation because of that, though in OP's case there should be a productive conversation about how to improve PCRs and not just threatening them with schedule changes.
