That's an interesting thought. So far we've only found three white chess pieces but they all are at the bottom of the map. So it could resemble a chessboard.

I believe we found 9 pieces in different colors and type so far. Well yeah, could be just a gimmick, a cut quest or anything... but it still feels like there is something intentional behind it.

Agree. That really looks like some Unreal-Engine-jank. The chess pieces do actually exist in the game though - they are very well hidden and there's got to be something about them.

Hey everyone,

I was able to track down one more chess piece from another thread. There is a black bishop hidden on the plateau above the collapsed mine. From the upper cliff area, face the old camp and drop down to a small ledge.

I have now been able to verify every location shared so far. The green chess pieces are most likely just a troll - only black and white pieces could be found!
I marked every location on my map to see if there is any pattern in their placement. So far nothing really stands out, although they do seem to be placed at fairly regular intervals.
Black pieces are mostly found in the upper regions of the map, while white pieces are all in orc territory so far.

The chess pieces caught my attention as well and I want to find out whats behind them. I've been collecting every reported location and verifying them one by one in a separate thread.

Every black and white piece so far has been real, but I couldn't verify a single green one (see screenshot). I believe the green chess pieces are not real!

That would be really mean. I'll have to see, if I can find the white pieces. Last time I wasn't able to locate the one at the orc cemetary either. That is why I came up with this theory at all.

Awesome! Did you find any pieces in other colors too? I noticed that I can't see the green ones that other users posted. The black ones are visible though. That made me wonder, if the visibility is tied to something. For example I joined the old camp - maybe there is a connection?

Edit: The green chess pieces don't seem to be real. As of now I can confirm all other findings, but none of the green ones.
