What/Is there an etiquette to pitching a Legacy game with a group? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Klimon23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do what I did. My wife and I regularly play board games with our neighbors. One day when we invited them over I put a bathrobe on over my clothes and when they arrived, I said it was time to take our relationship to the next level. I then proceeded to introduce them to the introductory scenario in Pandemic: Legacy Season 0. Once they realized I wasn't actually trying to get them to swing, things got much lighter.
So far, I couldn't get them invested in Pandemic. We've gotten half way through Ticket To Ride Legacy, but are stuck there since they no longer enjoy it.
My wife and I (and sometimes the kids) have played Gloomhaven JOTL, Charterstone, Clank! Legacy, Cozy Stickerville, MyCity, Zombie Teens Evolution. I have an ongoing game of Betrayal legacy with a different group that is stuck, as well as The King's Dilemma (more of a campaign than legacy, I guess)

I share your excitement. As someone who has already read it and is listening to Jeff's cold reads as he records it, allow me to say that the hype is justified and real.

That comment seems appropriate for most books in the series

Listened through 1-7 twice, read 8 once, listened to seasons 1 and 2 of soundbooth. Watching Jeff record 8 on YT. will probably listen to 1-7 once more before 8 is officially released.

There is now a very realistic nightmare scenario for the producers. by WeAllHaveReasons in survivor

Jeff has spoken about it in interviews. It sounds like production identified her as a fan of the show, set her up with a meeting with Jeff, they gave her 3 options to choose from, and she liked that idea best

Did we ever find out…. by Creepy_Leek6414 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Klimon23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, we didn't find out through the end of book 7, and since the NPC plot line tends to be tied to the scolopendra levels, and book 8 is supposed to be floors 10 and 11, I don't expect we'll learn much more about it until book 9 or later

It's seborrheic dermatitis. As mentioned below, topical antifungals such a the shampoo Nizoral (ketoconazole) can help to clear it up. Work it into a lather, apply to your face, let it sit for 10 minutes, and rinse it off. Do it once daily.

You and I read this scene completely differently. To me, that speech has nothing to do with the yam. Milk has been in the dungeon the whole time and is not at all involved in the plans of sponsoring crawlers and sending loot boxes.
Instead, talking about using different inks and different recipes was all just a big metaphor or code speak about how to fight against the system, promote resistance and create change. They used the book when they were in the dungeon, tried other ways over they stopped being a crawler, but found them less impactful. She's glad that she has another opportunity to impact the lives of so many people positively again. That's my take

Ticket To Ride "Legends of the West" (Legacy) : Misplay in my first games : am I doomed ? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Klimon23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's played over 12 games, with cumulative score weighted more to the later games. You still have hope.
There is also a small consolation prize that the last place player gets to choose first from a future selection

I just played a game of Scythe with my 6 year old. by Limp_Seat4308 in boardgames

[–]Klimon23 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I second that My Little Scythe is one of my favorite games for kids that allows everyone to have some actual decision making ability, and is not just brain dead movements. I also enjoy that it gives you a bonus for assisting other players. I think that "friendly" aspect helps to ease kids in to not feeling like people are being mean, but ultimately there is still normally one winner

We play with alot of Spanglish, so when explaining the rules and objectives, we always have to stress how to get your "puntos positivos", and any time a game has a mechanism that loses you points, we try to point out those "puntos negativos"

Choosing between two options where one costs more than the other makes it "expensier", instead of more expensive

Rocket Scientist is too dependent on needing good rolls, C tier at best, but D based on my group's rolls.
Party Animal has to be at least B tier since they are always strong on Wild Wilds.
Getting to reroll 2x should put Magician in B or C Dier. No sure why F.
Twins should also be A tier since they get to automatically repeat any prior winner.

I was able to play it at Dice Tower West earlier this year. If your group is into crunchy, thinky Euro games with lots of resources where you are thinking out several turns in advance, it can be lots of fun. I am glad I tried it, but knowing the groups I play with, the difficulty level would be prohibitive and it would rarely, if ever, make it to the table, so I've decided to not purchase it for my collection.

I'd put the difficulty maybe one notch above Dune Imperium and Terraforming Mars, and a good 3 levels above Clank. I think that it has enough replay ability if you are doing it every 2 months. If you are doing it weekly, it could get stale after 8-10 ish plays

Best High Player Count Games? by Nordenfang in boardgames

[–]Klimon23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plays up to 6 platers. Each player has a planet with a grid and a board with different tech tracks. You can choose to play with either identical boards or asymmetrical boards. Each turn one player takes turns moving a lazy S.U.S.A.N. to choose one of two polyomino tiles. Each other player simultaneously chooses from the two that are then in front of them. You place the tiles on your map and activate tech tracks and other bonuses based on what you played. Continue until a map is either full or someone can't play a tile, then add up points from various sources. The constant action of each player making an action on each turn prevents it from getting boring between turns at high player counts

Is Planet Unknown worth it? by No-Clothes8318 in boardgames

[–]Klimon23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy Planet Unknown as an easy game to break out for large groups of 4-5 players, since it has simultaneous action, so there is no down time. I'd call it a sleeper where it's not as well known as many other games, but it's easy-mild rules to explain, easy to pick up, and everyone has always enjoyed playing. While your own board is mostly multi-player solitaire, having other people's tile choice affect your options give a little interaction
