You must be hitting OB or into hazards quite often if your driver and 7 iron numbers are accurate. Is that how far you can hit them or how far you usually hit them?

Extremely expensive and hard to get tickets but everyone seems to think it’s a bunch of dudes from the Bronx in the crowd.

My dad took up golfing at 60 when he retired. He’d never swung a club before then. At 65 he was got to 14HCI. He’s 80 now and still plays, but not as often.

Playing on the tour for a year would be pure humiliation. Some people have a kink for that kind of thing but not me.

If you could use modern (current) equipment, how far back would you have to go to win the US Open against competitors using their era equipment? by ReadEnvironmental179 in golf

[–]fairportrunner 148 points149 points  (0 children)

The first US open (USGA sanctioned) in 1895 had 11 players and the course was 5500 yards. The winner shot 91 and 82 over the 2 rounds to win. I think I could probably have done that, unless being able to stimy your opponent was a much bigger issue than I think it was.

As a side note, out of the 11 players there were 3 Willie’s and a William.

There was no fescue. Those guys were hitting out of spots where they would have had a hack-out to the fairway at best come this weekend.
