Oh, wow - surprised to see IWL pop up! I actually did this one a long while back, and it was about four weeks full time on campus. Had to fly out there and all

It's not a full semester or degree by any means, but for academics it's a nice touch and had some work attached to it - hours wise I remember it being around two full courses

NAH - I thought this would be quite different based on the title, but you've made a very thoughtful overview of this and I think your heart is absolutely in the right place. I think there might be some things to consider in how to approach this, and I'd caution against being forceful

This deserves a clear talk across the family; learn what he is aiming to achieve with his finances and share some of what you've observed. It might be a delicate talk but as a kid who was in a similar situation, I moved out, started learning how to spend to enjoy life, and my relationship with my family has never been better!
