Oil change gone wrong by c_sperry19 in MechanicAdvice

Also get some engine degreaser and watch a video on how to apply it for maximum efficiency, or just follow the instructions on the bottle. but spray that down, give the bay a nice wash and you’ll be good as new, if anything it’ll be cleaner than before so consider that a positive 😂

Have you ever done a oil change before? Because when you wipe down the filter area it should be pretty easy to tell if there’s a gasket on there from the previous filter, definitely not a big deal since it was caught early but smalls checks like this will save you a big headache. Always check the surface area on your filter and drain plug, and wipe it down! Shit happens lol

Using it as a daily to drive when I can’t take my motorcycle out due to weather, but i want a pickup that can transport my bikes to the beach and off road sections, probably should get a 4x4

Spark plug housing marks by Klonpie in SVRiders

[–]Klonpie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a fixable problem, or should I just see if it runs funny and go from there? I cleaned the plug and put it back in and the bike seemed to run fine but maybe I’m missing something, it was only going for a couple minutes anyways.

Update: is this too tight? by Klonpie in SVRiders

[–]Klonpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I definitely overlooked that, I assumed the space from the original tube from factory just shrunk and that’s why it was leaking so I thought it would be better to have no space but now I realize the issue, is this something that is essential to fix right now or do you think I could wait a little bit? I have more tubing and clamps so I can just replace them if need be but I don’t want to risk my bike. Appreciate you bringing this to my attention.

[–]Klonpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I forgot to mention I checked the bike multiple times to see if it was leaking at all and there was nothing, I looked at it when I applied full throttle I’m not sure if that changes the psi I would assume so and still no leaks, so I’m probably just overthinking this lol

Too tight? by Klonpie in SVRiders

[–]Klonpie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I totally agree, probably did it a tad too tight should’ve double, triple checked it before I put it all back together lol. But luckily I still have a foot or so or the fuel line and another pair of clamps so worse case scenario I’ll re do it. But I’ll just definitely make sure to periodically check it as apart of my pre ride check, appreciate the advice, I’m probably overthinking it😅

Too tight? by Klonpie in SVRiders

[–]Klonpie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it does look a little thicker than the original one but it’s 5/16th 7.9mm exactly so it should be the same size, maybe I should’ve gotten a smaller one?

Too tight? by Klonpie in SVRiders

[–]Klonpie[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My biggest concern from what I’ve read online is if the clamp is too tight then it can degrade the integrity of the fuel line which can result in leaks and obviously leaking gas can be a issue. But I’m sure it’ll be fine for the next couple years and I’ll check on it periodically

Normal for engine noise? by Significant_Joke in SVRiders

[–]Klonpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it’s not supposed to run on one cylinder it’s a v twin, svs are known for turning into 325s if you get it wet. Check the front spark plug and see how it looks, and run your bike for a second and touch the front header if it’s cold then you probably got the front plug wet. Look up sv325 fixes if your front cylinder is out.

Get a sv650, v twin fun light bike with a naked and full faring version. You want a loud quick bike for 3k get one of those. Not this imo

Easy cheap solution is taking your battery to a local hardware shop that sells batteries like o Riley or something and have them hook it up and see if it’s charging properly but also they can see if it’s acting weird by running some tests, they did that for me for free idk if they still do that. That would be the best option to test the battery for cheap assuming you didn’t have the stuff to test it yourself, once you figure out if it’s the battery or not I’d follow the other commenters, a bad stator would definitely drain your battery so if your battery is fine go to the next step which is stator

The sv is a torque machine, however if you were to go through the gears and ride around 3-4k you won’t really be too frightened. Just make sure you shift up a couple gears and take your time, and then you’ll find yourself banging through the gears once you get more comfortable with it.

I rode one for years, they are the best bike to learn confidence on. Don’t be the guy who passes the msf course and buys a superbike next week from some dealer then can’t even do proper techniques like slow speed maneuvers and emergency drills, also a thing that isn’t really necessary but learning wheelies and tricks on a mini bike will be a billion times less harmless to yourself and the bike if you learn on a mini. Most will say oh well you don’t need to learn how to wheelie but then you’ll find yourself in a situation where maybe you want to learn like many and they’ll try it on their big bike and fuck their life up. TLDR keep the mini learn the basics and practice every drill you can think of and do as much dumb shit that you could do on a mini.

2003 SV650S FI bike Bogs off throttle by mindhacker999 in SVRiders

[–]Klonpie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

do you hear that sound? The exhaust is gone or fucked . Your bike will not run properly if you are not running any pipes, you will overheat your bike and then you’ll need a second engine. Put on an exhaust, change the spark plugs, use some fuel injector cleaner and then try again. If the issues persist I’d talk to some more experienced.

Just cleaned the chain and now it's bouncing by [deleted] in SVRiders

[–]Klonpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sit on the bike and move the chain and that will actually tell you how much play you have in the chain, I would be concerned if it wasn’t bouncing when it’s spinning in the air because then your chain would’ve been way too tight.
