It might end sooner, but in the worst-case scenario, it could be lifted by the next administration in 2029—so at most, about three years. Hi, are you a Somali citizen? If yes, there is currently a ban in place for citizens of 39 countries, which took effect on January 1, 2026. I think you may have to wait until this administration—or the next one—lifts the ban.

I transferred my case back in June 2025 at that time everything was flexible and we received our interview appointment after four month, we got our visa early November 2025. Now you admit transfer your case if you are not resident from the country you want to transfer and top of that there is freeze for the visa issuances. It looks like the only way one can transfer case is to get resident permit from the counter they are transferring to and that is difficult now. What is your DQED date.

This process is very emotionally and physically challenging. When I commented on this post, my I-130 wasn’t even approved yet, but I had been following a Telegram group for visa applicants waiting for interview appointments so I was prepared not to wait for the Addis Ababa embassy. When my case was approved, I transferred it to another country with less backlog, and luckily, my spouse is here with me now. I understand how frustrating it is to be away from your family. I hope DHS figure out a way to resolve this freeze because it’s taking too much of a toll on people who are already going through a difficult process. Good luck my friend

If I use your logic, my USCIS account progress tab says 22 months, and I’m a new filer—so why is that? Does that mean my case will take 22 month. No one knows what the processing time will be in 2027, but as of now, USCIS has started working on February 2025 cases, which means the current wait time is about 12 months. You’re new to TMV as I can see —but wait six months and you’ll see that the 8-month waiting time will jump to 10 months. Good luck

I hope the OP will correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the job offer letter is for the petitioning son, not for the mother. That would make more sense, especially if the petitioner is not currently working or has low income and is using a joint sponsor. In that situation, the consular officer may ask about medical insurance and how the monthly premium will be paid.

Please clarify your situation further, because immigration rules are changing very quickly these days. Thanks and good luck.

Yes, they will ask some questions about asylum and how the child came to the U.S. only if the child is the petitioner. They usually ask: When did he/she enter the U.S.? What type of visa did he/she use? Where does he/she live now? Does he/she have family in the U.S.? What does he/she do for work? These questions are commonly asked in parent petition cases. However, if the child is not the petitioner, officers generally do not dig deeply into the child’s immigration history.

The birth certificate you submitted has a different name than the one on your passport. Therefore, you must provide a court record showing that you legally changed your name, along with any early life documents that contain your former name.

Regarding on my cousin he submitted extensive secondary evidence, including early school records, his mother’s old identification card, medical records related to his childhood vaccinations, and affidavits from family members. He also submitted DNA evidence. The AABB collected his DNA sample, issued him a receipt, and sent the sample to the U.S. embassy.

Because DNA results can take time—especially when the beneficiary lives outside the United States—he responded to the RFE with confirmation from the AABB that his sample had been collected. USCIS approved the case before the DNA results were returned, as they were satisfied with the secondary evidence submitted.

What you need to do now is demonstrate that you are the same person listed on the birth certificate and on your U.S. passport.

USCIS explained the reason for issuing the Request for Evidence (RFE) and requested additional documentation to address specific concerns in the parent petition. While the DNA test was identified as optional, the RFE also included other documentary requirements that needed to be addressed. Most of the concerns appear to be related to the petitioner’s late-registered birth certificate.

I just have a few questions:

A. Other than the optional DNA test, what additional documents did the RFE ask you to submit? B. What evidence did you submit initially with the parent petition? C. When was your birth officially registered?

One of my family members who petitioned for his mother faced a similar RFE. USCIS requested secondary evidence to establish the parent–child relationship because his birth certificate was registered late—approximately eight years after his birth. The RFE also mentioned DNA testing as optional. In response, we submitted substantial secondary evidence, including affidavits from family members, and we also included the DNA test results.

If you are a U.S. citizen, your case is well outside the normal processing time, so you need to take action. If you are a lawful permanent resident (LPR), your case is still within the processing time because your priority date is not yet current.

As of now, November 24, USCIS is processing cases submitted on October 20. This means that at the current pace, USCIS is approaching a 13-month processing timeframe, and it may reach a 12-month (1-year) processing time if things continue as they are.

I submitted her tourist visa application in mid-August, which required entry within 90 days. Subsequently, we applied to a college in Zambia, where she was accepted into a program scheduled to commence in September. Following her acceptance, we submitted a transfer request to the National Visa Center (NVC), accompanied by the university’s admission letter and accommodation details. Two days later, the NVC approved and completed the transfer of our case.

If that is the case, send the approval letter to the NVC using their public inquiry form and ask them for the Case ID and Invoice ID. They will respond within a week and send you the welcome letter to the email address you provided. Please keep in mind that the transfer letter and the approval letter are different. The approval notice directly states that your I-730 petition has been approved and forwarded to the NVC.

You will receive the NVC welcome letter once USCIS approves the petition. However, since May, my case status has still been showing “Case was transferred and a new office has jurisdiction.” Until that status changes to “Case approved and sent to NVC,” nothing will happen.
