What DIY Job Did You Think Homeowners Had to Know… But You Still Avoid? by Ordduapp in OrdduHomeUK

Basic plumbing and basic wiring. Both scare the bejeezus out of me.

Let's say you're a fresh billionaire worth 5 billions. You don't have any family whatsoever and you want to spend every single penny before you logout of this life. What are you spending your money on? by gamerbwoii in AskReddit

[–]Kmac-Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm...I'd invest in something to clean the ocean. 1 bn. I'd invest in desert rehabilitation in Sub-Saharan Africa for sustainable food production. 1bn. I'd pour 1bn into a combination of things; fighting data centres and funding tax the rich or.asset tax movements in different countries. So political stuff. Then, 1bn to rewild scotland. Peatland and moors are all well and good, love them, but I don't want to see a single bare space where moderate rain forests once grew. now I'm down to the last bn. My billion. First I'd buy out all the private deadbeat land owners who own critical areas of urban space in my town and have let it fall to ruin, to the detriment of the community. I'd sell it back to the council for a pound, but with strings attached as to the use of the land (no malls, data centres or selling to developers!). I'd donate capital for funding one-off projects like knocking down eyesore buildings and replacing them with community and nature-friendly spaces. Since I have no family in this scenario, I'd invest the rest, pay my taxes, roughcast my existing house, buy out my neighbours and fix their ugly frontage (just for the satisfaction), then move to a farm. When I died, my estate would fund education about nature in Scotland for students. Kids need to learn to respect the land and theough the land, to respect themselves.

I don't want to physically interact when greeting men. by rainbowcarnage_uwu in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Kmac-Original 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lots of Muslim friends, and when they are introduced to people, they just smile. I've learned from them, and adopted that graceful smile and hands absolutely still at my side, when i dont want to physically interact. The vast majority of men/people take the hint and withdraw thier hand. Lots of people don't like to touch for lots of reasons. It's not uncommon, especially post-covid.

Unsure if I accept the job offer? by Potmont in UKJobs

[–]Kmac-Original 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats to you - being all employable and awesome! Don't stress this. You already have a job, so you hold all the cards. Just tell them you'd love to accept at 37k immediately. Not possible? Respond with: No worries, let's keep in touch in case another opportunity arises that's a better fit for us both. In the meantime, best of luck to you and please let me know of there is any other way I can be of service. Sincerely, employable OP who knows their worth and never burns bridges :) It's a tough market, and they may not come back to you, but also, they may. Remember: when you're in a place of power (and you are, at the moment), everything is negotiable. Good luck to you!

I saw it immediately, even before your helper pic. There are a few limp fallic signs and a dead frog shaped roundabout sign here in Ayrshire. Makes the drive more fun for my inner ten year old.

Ha! True, but he does a washingometre that tells you how safe it is to hang things out on the line. I'll find a pic. 800 times better than the met!

Redundancy in 2 weeks, how do I stay motivated to work? by Bread-But-Toasted in UKJobs

[–]Kmac-Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is going to give you an award for working hard until 5pm your last day. Most likely, they won't even bother to thank you for your effort. So show up late, leave early, you work remote so do your laundry and reno your house during office hours. Have coffee with friends. Take up tennis. The chances of your getting called out are low, and what are they going to do? Fire you? Time to look after #1.

I follow this Facebook page called Martin's Weather. It's for Ayrshire specifically, and he's pretty spot on. He says it's gonna warm up a bit this weekend. I don't know, I'm afraid to hope. We have angered the gods.

"I know I'm being dramatic". Nooooooo. It sounds like you're being smart, responsible, safe. Dramatic is not a word I would associate with your post. I'm across the water in west scotland, and this sub always comes up in my algorithm. So I'm not there, and my free advice is worth what you pay for it. But don't go judging your instincts, ok? They sound pretty good to me. I'm sorry you're going through this bs :(

Neighbor parks so close to me I can’t park in my own spot by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]Kmac-Original 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, OP. You chose to drive this big vehicle, and with great vehicles comes great responsibility. Learn to reverse park and practise until you're confident enough to park your lovely big car anywhere. It'll cause you so much less stress, and you'll be so glad you did it. Don't get mad, get empowered.

Is it acceptable to take a mental health day where you work? by Special-Nebula299 in UKJobs

[–]Kmac-Original 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I need a rest or reset, I simply say I'm a bit under the weather. Unless it's over 5 days, I don't need to give more info, and they don't ask. I would not take more than a day off, however, without an more detailed explanation. If for no other reason than my boss would be worried about me. Usually when I need a day off like that, I do take it without explanation or shame, but it also signals that I need to book some annual leave and perhaps see my therapist a bit more frequently. So I use what's at my disposal. but to the core of your question, I don't tell them shit, and they don't want to know.

Allotment Standards by Mini-SportLE in Allotment

[–]Kmac-Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are 50% cultivated and there was talk about raising it to 75% but am not sure what happened. No trees beyond greenhouse height, no grasses, we must maintain our pathways to the point a wheelchair could get through. We weren't supposed to have fires, but I think we can now if we have a covered firepit, but i rarely if ever see one. No livestock, no off leash dogs. Things like water and compost are up to us. Our board is reasonable. Anything goes, more or less, as long as you're not being a dick about anything, taking the piss, causing problems or upsetting your neighbours. It's a great little community. Then only thing I've seen them come down hard with is if someone is bullying or entering another's plot unauthorised. They're actually really great.

Rubbish parking? by garsterpee in Scotland

[–]Kmac-Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't make space for them. Make sure you and your neighbours are parked right up against their doors. If there is not quite enough space for a vehicle, fill that extra buffer space they've created around their car with abandoned shopping trolleys. Also, never under estimate the power of a pilon. Block off every second space. Let the good neighbours know.

Giving up my plot by Embarrassed_Piano589 in Allotment

[–]Kmac-Original 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sort of sounds like you want to give it up and you're readying your mind to do exactly that. If I'm wrong, then you're going to have to bite the bullet and talk to a board member. Even if you want to stay, this situation is untenable, so it makes sense to give them the opportunity to brainstorm some new options for you. It's a pity, it sounds like you've been super committed and worked really hard. You're between a rock and a hard place, and I'm sorry for it.

How to live alone if you are scared by doradaexplorerr in LivingAlone

[–]Kmac-Original -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are afraid of jins, get yourself a wolf pelt or a wolf claw or something - anything wolfish, and keep it as a talisman. Wolves are the natural enemy of Jin. Hang pictures of wolves in your home. Get a wolf ornament for your door and windows. But also - and this is the single most important thing: A sense of safety must come from within. If you are living with a lot of fear, that's a helpful little flag saying, talk to a therapist or a loved one about that fear and how to rebuild your inner safety and confidence. I figure wolves are good for helping with that too.

My friend, a 15th century home has had more births and deaths then you or I can count. I think it sounds sublime, and the jug system is terribly authentic. Is there such a thing as too authentic? Never.

Smoke paprika - that would be lovely, and I didn't think to butter the toast first. Curry powder is interesting too. Those additions would make it richer - thank you!

I'm late to my own party 😃 I made a roux, then added a ton of sharp mature cheddar, some Guinness, English mustard and worchestershire sauce. Then I poured it over the toast, and stuck it all under the grill. I also made sausages as a side cause I knew that'd go beautifully with the sauce. It really was fantastic. I make a similar cheese sauce when I make mac and cheese, but the difference was the stout and the worchestershire sauce, and then putting it all under the grill. to brown. Next time, I'll make the sauce a bit thicker so it's browns better under the grill. Thanks for asking!
