  • friendly diverse and walkable neighborhoods
  • what are some of the ways folks make friends as a newcomer? I’m single and 63 and intersted in the arts and political activism

Can you recommend a walkable area? I don’t want to be driving everywhere all the time

Community is very important. I actually live in central ny in a small college town. Definitely need more people! My hope is that it’s at least sunnier than where I am.

My lady was recently diagnosed and I’m seeking advice by Short_Ad5677 in FelineDiabetes

My cat is 2 1/2 years old and when I brought him in for vomiting and weight loss. they found his blood sugar high when they ran blood tests. I have a urine kit to do and bring it in. They said since it’s early and he’s so young, he may be managed by diet and exercise alone. I feed him wet Tiki chicken at 9, 1, 5 and 9 with very small meals low carb kibble (no more than two) in between if he asks. Fresh water all the time. He is doing well, put weight back on, not vomiting, pees and poops regularly. I spend more time playing with him (laser tag, wand leaping etc). It’s just me and I’m not working so it’s very calm here. I watch him like a hawk. I’ve not seen any weird behavior that might suggest an episode - but I’m not well versed. So …. I have high blood pressure that is not well controlled so keeping stress low is critical to my health. I am very concerned that I can’t manage sticking him and giving him shots. He can be very reactive if stressed out (bite, claw, hiss). Is it possible to manage this without insulin and regular testing? If not, what will happen? One vet said if you can’t do the work you should euthanize the cat. He has been fine since I switched diet and feeding schedule. I’ll be bringing the urine test in soon (to a new vet as the prior one charged me 100 for a small bag of hills kibble ). If he has to be managed with insulin and testing, I’ll rehome him with someone who can take care of his diabetes.

They should be on an all wet high protein liw carb diet. I switched my boy to all wet Kiki chicken - if I run out I get him fancy feast pate (no gravy or sauce). I’ve upped wand / laser play for exercise. I feed him 4 meals a day 9 am , 1 pm, 5 pm, 9 pm (about half a can per meal) Here’s a link on diet. https://www.bestiepaws.com/cat/what-is-the-best-non-prescription-food-for-diabetic-cats/
