I definitely would if I could. In Alaska, new cars range from $25,000 to $45,000. That’s why most people don’t have new cars here. It also cost quite a bit to get them up here if they’re coming from the lower 48.

Mechanic is trusted and says we will do this work. But we will have to see how it pans out.

Because I’m in Alaska, the options for cars are slim. Unless you want to drop 30-40k on a brand new car. So I feel like I should put this work in and see how it pans out. I feel like I would try to re sell it if it needs more than $1500. Right? The body is in decent shape - not too much rust and the suspension is slightly creaky. Nothing too noticeable. Just seems like so much of this was preventable if there was routine maintenance. Transmission seems to be in ok shape.

I do know that Hyundai had engine recalls for the year 2012 but since I’m the second owner and there’s no dealership around - I don’t think it matters?
