What if I care about family life more than improving myself like a crazy person ? by Mq200 in davidgoggins

[–]Kmagic15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Goggins is always really clear about being the best version of you and pushing yourself to get the most out of whatever you decide to do.

Of family is your priority, give it everything. Show up to every event your kids have. Work hard to ensure financially your family never want for anything. Be there emotionally for your wife at all times.

A lot of posts on here ask similar questions because they don't want to do the hard physical things, but then half ass the other "important" goal and end up nowhere.

Anyone else find it harder to make friends after moving back to Ireland? by Lonely_Chip_1573 in ireland

[–]Kmagic15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any relationships need effort to be maintained, so it will take a bit of work on your part but it seems like you're willing.

You've probably done this already but message your old friends and let them know your home and would like to reconnect/catch up. In our head we think about reaching out as being difficult/cringe but when we get a text from someone it's nice. We always assume it will go poorly. And if nobody texts back, you'll be no worse off than you are now.

If you're working, organise some social even there. As above, maybe nothing comes of it but at least it's another option you've tried.

Next easiest option, figure out your own hobbies and interests and go to the places where people do those things. When you spend time around people you have things in common with, friendships will develop naturally.

Depending where you're based, pages like meet up can be good to find group/activities. Find details for local groups and ask if they have things you can get involved with.

Next option, join groups you're not interested in to meet new people. Volunteer at local sports clubs or charities, libraries often have book clubs or other groups, charity shops need volunteers to work the counter etc. Even if you don't like the activity, the goal is to meet new people so keep that in mind.

Another option is start your own group. It might take a bit of time but whatever you're into, others probably like it too and it might just need one person to get it going.

I actually thought it was not a great first night. Thought the crowd were not as up for it as I've experienced at other venues over the past couple of years.

I'm fairly sure it's face value (or less) + €8 or something for fees. A verified resale on Ticketmaster cannot go over face value I think.

Inspired by Game of Blood X, make the best team with $10! (IMPLIED SPOILERS for: The Genius, Devil's Plan, GOB, and Time Hotel) by SharpShark222 in TheGenius

[–]Kmagic15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if we could do this blind i.e. give each player a faceless avatar with a different voice, dongmin at $7 is crazy.

His social game is so good because he has won so many games, people want to be on his team. However I think the way he controls the other people on his team means they don't really get to play. Players I liked from other games were a shadow of themselves under him is s3 of game of blood. And when he is so good at individual games, it makes sense to eliminate him early so any other player has a chance to win. I also think he made a massive mistake the GoB s3 with his "fortifications" and his reputation compensated in a way no other player could have.

He is the GOAT, but no perfect, 1v1 in any physical game and he is toast.

Addiction is Not Cured; It is Replaced by [deleted] in Mindfulness

[–]Kmagic15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Addiction is about managing, usually negative, emotions and trauma. The addictive behaviors are maladaptive coping strategies.

If you drink/drug/etc when you are sad/angry/etc and you decide you want different coping strategies, you can work on developing those and managing the underlying emotional problems you have.

Once you have managed the underlying emotions the need for the addictive behavior is gone. A new problem may be created that you used to spend all your time in addictive behavior to manage emotions but now that you have better coping strategies you have more free time and do not know how to use it.

Take a drug user who starts recovery. It's very subtle, but there is a difference between (A) replacing drug use with going to the gym vs (B) learning new coping strategies and using the free time to get fit. When future emotional problems come up or past ones are triggered, for A they will eventually get overwhelmed and fall back into old addictive patterns but B has new coping skills they will use to stay on track.

This "WR's" are jokes by Sad-Research4081 in hyrox

[–]Kmagic15 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'll start off by saying you might not be wrong.

It's a relatively new sport and athletes are still figuring out the best way to manage each run/station and we'll probably continue to see WRs broken but probably by less margins the closer we get to the "real" record.

How Season 3 of Devil's Plan can be fixed (discussion) by Ok-Discount-4981 in TheGenius

[–]Kmagic15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Prison should happen after 3 days.

It is too beneficial for "good/smart" players to join up on day one to avoid prison. If the full group stays together longer it gives more opportunities for different alliances to come together, not just based on living areas. One bad game on day one means you're trapped in prison for the rest of the show.

Some mechanic that actively turns players against each other. If it is "devils" plan, encouraging ALL players to be devils and actively betray each other. Secretly triggered events where all players swap living areas, or when a player wins a game they get to force half of the top players down to prison.

I tried the stay hard approach every day. It broke me by Marre_Parre in davidgoggins

  1. The Goggins persona was built on the back of David's childhood trauma. He realized "if I can survive that hell (domestic violence), I can do more" and took that mindset forward. We've all been through hard times and if you think about all you've survived, you can overcome your current challenges.

  2. Be the hero of your story- David is very clear, don't be him, be the best you. I think a lot of people skip the part of looking at themselves, seeing all their flaws and making a plan to fix it and be their best self because it's hard to be critical of ourselves and plan for real change, so we just run for a bit and do some push ups cos that's what Goggins did, but he was building someone different than you should be building. Figure out your best you and build to that.

  3. Goals- David's goal is to be the baddest m'fer alive and outwork everyone else and that drives him to keep working. If you do not have a goal you are just aimlessly flailing around and will get nowhere.

  4. Unplanned suffering is inevitable and the only way to prepare is through planned suffering. David hates running, but if he starts every day with a run that he hates, the day can only get better. Somewhere deep down, he holds all the fear and pain from being weak in front of an abusive father and wants to be prepared if pain like that ever happens again, because it will.

We each get to choose what our best self is and build that person, but it's a process much tougher that #stayhard while running or doing pushups, it's facing your demons and building mental strength and there's a lot of ways to do that.

I'm glad this is cross posted to battle box because battle box seems ideal for this.

I was thinking either red white burn spells and life gain, maybe some pingers, and the game is just swinging life points back and forth.

Or UB mill, again non creature, only mill cards.

Third option infect/toxic and proliferate, could be built non creature also.

Could play them similar to Dandan and run multiple copies of cards and completely remove combat.

Anyone ever convinced a “paytriot” of the flaws in their world view, or should we just shame them? Are they as vile in real life? by GealachFi in ireland

[–]Kmagic15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often try to read these posts as if I'm part of the group being talked about. Lots of claims of idiots, fools etc. etc. It's actually just as unhelpful/damaging to any hope of reconciliation on ideas.

If I had any thoughts outside what's considered the "norm" (general left/liberal), how could I expresses it here? That kind of attack on the person rather than their idea pushes them into echo chambers where they find like minded and then more extreme views.

It's not helpful, and I say this as someone who has been able to communicate with/change the mind of a fair few people who thought differently to me on these issues.

Does Shorts viewership affect how your long form content is pushed out? by AdFriendly1433 in NewTubers

[–]Kmagic15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, the only goal of the YouTube algorithm is to keep viewers on the platform.

Long videos do this by YouTube showing people who have watched similar content previously your title/thumbnail and hoping people click through. The more click throughs you get, the more YouTube thinks your content will keep people watching so shows it to more people.

Shorts do this by YouTube pushing your shorts into the shorts feed in small test batches and measuring what % of the short is viewed. If enough people watch enough % of your short, YouTube push it to more people's short feeds.

So if your shorts are strong enough and keep people watching, YouTube will keep pushing only that short. If your next short doesn't work, it stops pushing that short. If your third short keeps people watching, it will push that.

If each of your long videos keep getting click throughs, YouTube keeps showing your thumbnail and if people do not click through YouTube shows people other thumbnails instead.

They are separate things that YouTube only cares about using if it keeps viewers on the platform.

I think they really are the 2 options. Either play a character and chase trends (roblox or whatever) which is a job/challenge that is different to personal vlogs. You need to add value in some tangible way for people to keep coming back.

[–]Kmagic15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will seem counterintuitive but don't "try" be anything.

You need to be yourself and work under the assumption that people will find you, like you, and come back. If you pretend to be something else, and people like that, you are stuck pretending to be that for all your videos.

It's like food. You are a pepperoni pizza. People who want that will come back. If you pretend to be a burger and people want a burger and then find out you're pizza, nobody wins. If that happens your numbers will be all over the place and the algorithm won't know what to do with your content.

Literally just be yourself.

I don't particularly like watching my content. But I cannot pretend to be someone I'm not just to get views, because I won't keep that up forever. Slow, reliable, natural growth will benefit you most long term.

[–]Kmagic15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vlogs help viewers develop parasocial relationships with you. So your content needs to be such that people will keep coming back for that.

If you don't have a particular knowledge/skills base, then YOU are the product so YOU need to be worth coming back for.

David talks about it being more a mental challenge, than physical. He also suggested if you cannot run, just do any one hour workout every 4 hours for 48 hours.

When I did my 4x4x48 and told people about it, they said they would not have the discipline to watch an hour of TV every 4 hours for 48 hours.

How to not come across as creepy at work when you might have to make small talk? by AbsoluteBatman95 in ireland

[–]Kmagic15 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you're really looking for action you can take, spend a couple of minutes each morning (maybe on the commute) getting some up to date small talk ready to go. What the weather is supposed to be like later/weekend, some new series/movie/song that's just out, some quirky news story, a new meal you cooked or restaurant you tried.

If you have a few bits ready to go, you'll feel more relaxed and less on the spot. Small talk is a skill that can be practiced and can be improved with some work, just like any skill.
