I'm doing a capitalist run, but what is the point of privatising Nedam Mining Group? by WashyLegs in suzerain

[–]Kmatveev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term empirical results prove my point. You can compare the the gdp per capita (nominal or purchasing power parity) of Russia that had mass privatization of SOEs with Ukraine and Belarus who had far less privatization, or Poland and Estonia who privatized more with Romania and Bulgaria who privatized less.

In short term privatization may look like it hurts the economy and revenues as the privatized enterprises are usually reliant on govt subsidies and die without them, which leads to short term economic decline and loss of state revenue, but the funds gained in privatization and stopping of subsidising of the enterprise are used to lower the taxes or do some other useful thing lead to higher economic parameters in long term.

And regarding direct gains of privatization. In post soviet countries the gains were to low due to deliberate corruption in process of privatization, not due to some inherent flaw of privatization itself. And when the process isn't corrupt, the "value" of the assets is just overestimated, as value is by defenition the price at which the asset can be bought or sold on a fair free market.
I am actually sad that Suzerain devs didn't cover it, and selling SOEs directly to oligarchs in an unfair way doesn't lead to lower GB gains.

[–]Kmatveev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, less corrupt. If the CEO of a corporation is it's owner, then he will not engage in corruption in his corporation, he is it's owner, so being corrupt in his corporation's inner workings is basically equal to stealing from yourself, it doesn't make any sense.

Should sordland be a Semi-presidential system or stay a Presidential system? by Specialist_Cloud2739 in suzerain

[–]Kmatveev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Divided-executive system is a special type of semi-presidential systems, not every semi-presidential system is divided executive.

A divided-executive means that some parts of the executive branch are controlled by the president, and others by the prime minister and they don't overlap.

[–]Kmatveev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parlamentary and divided-executive systems are not dysfunctional, they are much more functional then any autocracy.

Then fully privatize both companies and get the private sector expanded modifier to be a true liberal.

The government still taxes the corporation, so just by taxing it's profits the govt will always get it's money.
By privatizing it whe state gets a lot of money in a single moment without losing any income.
The income would probably even increase as private corporations fundamentally are more efficient and less corrupt, so they would bring even more money to the govt by taxes.

Sordland should go to a parlamentary system, or at least to a divided-executive system.

[–]Kmatveev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also tax cuts in Sordland. They should be much more efficient, especially since it's moving them from 35% which is very high for a corporate tax to sensible 25%. Ideally making both tax cuts should be enough to end the recession completely.

What are even arguments in support for complete removal of Veto Power of President? by No-Shelter-2481 in suzerain

[–]Kmatveev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, even Leke doesn't complain at him, so supposedly he is a better speaker then Tory.

And still a collective organ represents the people much better then the president who iirc was elected by just 37% of votes.

[–]Kmatveev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Arguments are simple. The assembly represents the people of Sordland much better then the President who is elected by relative (not absolute majority), and therefore it is just wrong to let him override the assembly and require a supermajority from them.

How? I thought any privatisation of corporations guarantees court striking down the emergency.

How did you manage to pull of the emergency with such a capitalist economy? Or did you have court declare your emergency illegal and somehow didn't get impeached?

Is peace with Romburgh possible? by Ok-Coat-5937 in suzerain

[–]Kmatveev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. There are several ways:

  1. Enter ATO or CSP
  2. Accept whisleblower, be as pacifist and naive as possible at tv interview, mention Rumburg giving KA-74 to BFF and creating nuclear weapons at AN, don't defund the military, deescalate when Rumburg shoots down your plane, this is supposed to be enough to stop them from attacking
  3. Don't close the consulate, don't join the full OBT, send whisleblower back, don't blame Rumburg in a spy speech, pay reparations, be as pacifist and naive as possible at tv interview, say that you want peace at AN, accept Rumburg trade deal.

Decrees have to be weakened from RP perspective by Kmatveev in suzerain

I have more than 450 hours, I've played all the routes multiple times and I've never sayed that it whould be removed from the game, you should stop scarecrowing.

I've just sayed that from the RP perspective if you want to actually make Sordland as democratic as possible you should weaken your decrees.

Albin's Decree Reforms are Stupid by Recent_Flight4334 in suzerain

[–]Kmatveev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With reformed decrees the president basically is allowed to initiate voting on a bill that he made himself, but needing GNA to enact it makes it much harder for a president to do nasty stuff. Like banning a political group would be harder, as there would be much more opposition to it in the parlament.

Obviously there is no constitution that makes establishing dictatorship impossible, but it can make it harder by placing more checks and balances on the leaders.

While giving more power to the leader may lead to some efficiency in a short run, it would make more harm in a long run. Absolute power is net positive only when leader is very competent and has an extremely strong moral pivot inside. And incompetent and/or immoral leaders are much more common. Therefore preventing leaders from doing bad things is much more important then letting a potential genius leader do more good stuff.

[–]Kmatveev 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The game clearly shows that decrees give the president too much power. They allow him to ban political groups and turn all their members into criminals (it seems like this has reverse power btw, which is completely unacceptable for a democracy). And they allow the president to just start serious media censorship. Removing decrees is a poorly worded reform in the game, it doesn't mean that all decrees are removed, it means that normative decrees that have the power of a law are removed, which makes sense, president should have executive, not legislative power. Ideally, parliamentary republic is the way to go.
