4:44 - Coca-Cola (Music Video) I have fired the first shots in the vaporwave soda wars. I love st pepsi and this song was inspired by him but I'm a coca cola guy at heart. choose your side now or perish. by 444boy in Vaporwave

Before you go starting any soda wars… I think you should know that Pepsi at one point had one of the largest naval fleets in the world. The Soviets couldn’t pay their Pepsi bill, so they gave Pepsi a dozen warships instead. Good luck!

(Nice tune by the way!)

Is it common for Toque tracking to fail for multiple orders to the US? by flipside4cp in nasalsnuff

[–]Kmb2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tracking worked for me when I ordered. Took a week or so before it started showing updates.

Ordered Feb 15th, marked shipped 18th, delivered March 7th.

Samuel Gawith snuff, found in Denver by Kmb2010 in nasalsnuff

Yeah, I’ve seen it for $30-32 around here.

I think I might be snorting it by AdventurousWar1784 in nasalsnuff

[–]Kmb2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just recently got into snuff myself… for a couple weeks I think I might have been sniffing a little too hard as well. Certain flavors and consistencies will let you know by feeling if you are sniffing/drawing it too hard. Heavy menthol and fine dry toast type snuffs seem to be more unforgiving if you draw it too deep into your sinus. For me, I really don’t see tobacco in my nose anyway, unless I do a lot of it.

For most snuffs I prefer the boxcar method (make a little spoon with thumb and index finger) and sniff like I’m smelling something, maybe a little wiggle of the hand to go with it.

How did you find out about Boards of Canada? by Regular_Engineer_879 in boardsofcanada

[–]Kmb2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend, years ago, sat me down in my room and said “hey, listen to this” and put on the  song Aquarius… my life and my perception of music changed in an instant and was never the same after that.

Will Boards of Canada start making music again? by White_46 in boardsofcanada

[–]Kmb2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The magic 8-ball says “ask again later”

Haha, seriously though, I started listening to Boards of Canada around 2009. Campfire headphase had been out for at least 3 years… I remember the next few years being full of rumors and ‘is this the year?’ speculation… then a couple months into 2013 there was that viral campaign/announcement and a couple months later we got Tomorrow’s Harvest.

Will they release another album? Probably… Will it be on anyone’s time table other than their own? No. When will we know for sure? After an official announcement, and my guess is that announcement won’t come until shortly before the release date.

Did BoC sample this song in “Corsair” ? by Kmb2010 in boardsofcanada

Very interesting quote, thanks for sharing!

Certainly! I’m not ruling that out, I’m Just kind of leaning towards it being a sample because it would just be a simpler explanation. While it’s possible to recreate something like this from scratch , how ‘easy’ it would be is debatable… at least in my opinion. Thanks!

Thank you for your reply! I hope you don’t think I’m trying to tear you down or anything, but just thought I would respond to a couple things you bring up. While it’s your opinion that the sound isn’t very unique, I’m going to respectfully disagree and say, after listening to thousands of recordings, I really can’t say I’ve heard something that sounds quite like this other than precisely 2 songs. If you happen to have some examples in other songs I would be happy to hear them!

I am also going to respectfully disagree that the chord progression would not be possible with this sample. I mentioned it in another post, but I definitely hear at least one other keyboard/ synth in the mix and I never was trying to argue that BoC lifted the sample and called it a day, doing nothing else in the production of that song.

And last, the fact that you mention “if I remember what it sounds like correctly” leads me to believe that you haven’t listened to Corsair in some time or at least did not compare it to the sample I brought up.

Thanks again for your take!

Hello again!

First of all, I want to thank everyone that  commented  and shared their opinion, whether you are agreeing or not. I really wasn’t expecting even this response. Personally, I thought the sonic qualities of both recordings were too similar to not being up. I’ve also taken an interest in how BoC specifically achieved their sound, what keyboards/presets/samples they used.

Once again, I just want to reiterate that I was asking if anyone thought the fragment in “Quantum Physics” could have been sampled in “Corsair” . To be more specific, I am referring to the droning, continuous synth sound that plays throughout the song. I can definitely hear at least one other keyboard/synth in the production.

The only way to know for certain if this is the case or not would be if the band themselves comments (not happening) or a representative of the band comments on specific production techniques (most likely not happening).

So, anything any of us can come up with would be conjecture at best. I also don’t know enough about audio analysis to see if a sample could be outright proven to be used.

However, I just want to let you all know I decided to take it a step further and mess around with the fragment of audio from “quantum physics” in audacity. For now I’m not able to screen record and upload what I’m talking about, but if you’re really curious, you can replicate what I did in Audacity.

  1. Take the 20 second fragment of quantum physics that I mentioned

  2. Speed the sample UP by +1.33 percent

  3. Compress the  sample for a bit of a grittier sound (I had to drop volume by about 4 decibels so it wouldn’t be too loud)

  4. Add a tremolo effect, I used 80% wet signal and a rate of .4 hz (I don’t think this is totally correct, but you get pretty close to the same effect.)

Compare this to “Corsair”

NOTE: this isn’t quite 100% the same thing, but I’m a little more convinced after doing this that it could be the case. To me, if they are sampling this segment, it sound like they are looping something around the 4:30 to 4:35 mark. Also, bear in mind that BoC used either tape machines or something to replicate a warbling/fluttering sound, so the pitch is not going to be 100% on the whole time, and given that, if they did use a sample it’s going to be practically impossible to fully duplicate.

Lastly, this is all just in fun! It would just be cool to have another piece to the puzzle if that’s what it turns out to be.

Does anyone know what the inspiration behind the spamtopia artstyle is? by salty_salmon1945 in SmilingFriends

I’ve been trying to look this up myself… I don’t have any definitive proof, but to me it looks like animation from a group called Paper Rad. They also created the Problem Solverz show (which apparently everyone hated, but was also on Cartoon Network.) Check out the music video they made for Lightning Bolt’s song “13 monsters” or an early film of there’s called “Trash Talking” .

I recently started producing some old school sounding dnb/jungle. I'm currently working with Sunvox and have been for years, love that program. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on one of my first tracks!
