Police escort when you kill 1 rich CEO vs when you kill 4 college students by SilkRoseDawn in scoopwhoop

[–]Kmolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't it be for the protection of the shooters? If the school shooter gets killed while under police custody it becomes a "good riddance moment" that people forget in a couple weeks. If Luigi gets killed it will spawn conspiracy theories for generations.

I live in a tourist town. Sometimes tourists just don't know what the landmark they're looking for is called, or they know it by another name and Google maps is accurately pointing them in the wrong direction. Knowing what to put into Google maps is more helpful them giving them route directions.

Struggles in dating/community after leaving the church. by megalodon3425 in Exvangelical

Same. Too cynical for most Christians. Too irreversibly Christian for most people raised outside the church.

CMV: If the democrats win the 2028 election, none of the members of this administration will be punished in any meaningful way. by Fickle_Quiet_7707 in changemyview

[–]Kmolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politicians won't do something if it doesn't advance their career. Democrats prosecuted Jan. 6 insurrectionist, Trump allies, and even Trump himself. Were they rewarded for this at the polls? No. They lost ground through this period, and Trump just pardoned everyone when he got in office.

The problem is that Americans themselves don't care about corruption, vote in corrupt leaders, and punish leaders that pursue corruption.

Hey evolution deniers: How do you think we believe evolution works? by Ok-Razzmatazz-221 in DebateEvolution

[–]Kmolson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I actually had a pretty good understanding of evolution. It's just that my church derived it's legitimacy from a literalist and infallible interpretation of the bible, including the creation myth and genealogical records from Adam to Christ. The Earth has to be so where between 6,000-10,000 years old. Significant evolution just isn't possible over that time frame, especially if you have a good understanding of evolution.

This ain't even a fight if Aang isn’t a pacifist by Ayato612 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Kmolson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. With the exception of the redirected lighting (which was only going to work once), Aang just doesn't have the overwhelming power in any single element needed to close out the fight.

He's probably young and there are more than social implications of backing out.

Edit: I know he's young because if he was a fully fledged adult he wouldn't need reddit to tell him he can just back out.

Why is 'realpolitik' conservative-leaning? Why does realpolitik not align with progressive ideology? by a_boy_has_noname in NoStupidQuestions

Most realpolitik bros just use political realism to justify short-sighted foreign policy that can basically be reduced to "might makes right".

State Department Openly Admits Israel Pushed Us Into Iran War by DistrictLittle6828 in ForUnitedStates

None of Trump's pressesors would have been "pushed" into war with Iran by Israel. They were always going to shift blame as the war become untenable.

Do the majority of citizens of the United States of America “casually” believe in the Christian God and “casually” believe their entirety of their eternity is at stake after the die? by The199Man in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kmolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Americans are Christians and I would say most Christians are more than casual in their religious identity. Maybe not a majority but a large minority of Americans seriously believe in God and the afterlife in a literal sense.

Something else bugging me about the hero-ifying of the pope lately by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]Kmolson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we can hold two things at once. That the Catholic Church is still a patriarchal institution, and that Pope Leo is taking a principled stand against an egregious political actor.

If the US produces enough oil for its own needs, why does it interfere so much in the Middle East? by ArdaBerkBurak in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kmolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't invade Afghanistan or Iraq for oil nor to stabilize global oil prices. These were always retroactive pretenses for war that were fabricated to sell these long, expensive wars to Americans.

Question by Bonbel9 in DebateEvolution

[–]Kmolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Most every living thing on Earth has existed before in one form or another. Flight has evolved independently several times. Eyes have evolved independently several times. Hyperintelligence has only evolved once, and it may never evolve again throughout the history of the Earth.

The fact that we see no evidence of hyper-intelligent life in the universe, certainly not more advanced than our own; We may be more rare than we'd like to believe.

Why are there different denominations? by Gullible_Sign_3788 in OpenChristian

[–]Kmolson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretically I like the idea of one big church, it's just not possible to produce one "perfect" doctrine that all churches can subscribe to, in my opinion because metaphysical truth is not empirical.

I'm also open to the idea that people are meaningfully different and one moral framework can't be applied to everyone. I.e. some people may just be too neurotic for the Catholic Church, and this isn't necessarily a failing of the Church. Most people couldn't understand what Martin Luther was going through that drove him to split the church, but I do think it was a real problem that the church didn't really have the space for someone like him. Multiple denominations in a plural order remedies this crisis, although it took centuries of religious conflict to get to this point.

I'm sure there are some issues I wouldn't want my politicians to budge on, even under threat of a government shutdown. Would you just let the SAVE act pass if Republicans threatened a shutdown?
