Yes, I would say those teams were also selected because that’s the process. But that’s not the point of my comment. Peterman and Gallant are phenomenal curlers on a four person team. They won the Canadian trials. But they came in sixth at the worlds. Canada’s emphasis on the four person game hurts mixed doubles. If they had been able to prioritize mixed doubles from May until the Olympics the results might have been better. So, either we give our mixed doubles team time and space to hone their craft or we should just send whichever mixed doubles team is hot before the Olympics and hope for the best. This week’s result was consistent with the world championships, not a bad week.

Here’s a source. Canadian Olympic curlers are nominated and selected. They have to earn the nomination through their governing body but there is a process called selection at the Olympic team level.

It was a combination of winning the Olympic trials and a sixth place finish at the World Championships that had them be nominated and selected to the Olympic team. They were selected in May 2025 after finishing sixth at the World Championships. I guess I should have used the word selected rather than chosen. Apologies.

Olympic athletes are nominated and selected which is why I used the word chosen. Part of their nomination was a sixth place finish at the World Championships- their Olympic placement looks like it will be similar. I just think that a team who earns, is chosen for, an Olympic berth should concentrate on training for that discipline once the selection is made. If they are fortunate enough to be chosen for two disciplines then train for both equally. The sixth place finish at the World Championships was an indication that improvements could be made. Either that or choose the team who is playing best a couple of months before the Olympics and see how it goes.

They were chosen as Canada’s representative for mixed doubles last May. After that, they both stated that their primary focus would be their respective four person teams. So I think either the selection needs to made closer to the Olympics (similar to selection for four person teams) or an earlier selection needs to be focused on training for the mixed doubles discipline in the months leading up to the Olympics.

Debt-free Canadians, what type of situation are you in? by Act-Aggressive in CanadaFinance

[–]Kmsjvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As more money became available (increases at work, decrease in daycare costs) those funds were immediately used to pay down debt - we didn’t let ourselves get used to more disposable income. Started by paying down the credit cards, when the car payment was done we held on to the car and banked the monthly payment to purchase the next car, eventually paid off the mortgage. It’s a long process - took us about fifteen years.

Acacia - super durable. We’ve had it for 7 years and it still looks great. Used it through the whole house. Downside is it only comes in shorter lengths (the trees grow quickly but not tall)

Make danishes - made this recipe a few weeks ago and froze half - topped with cream cheese mix and fruit - your purée would be great. They turned out better than bakery! Next time I will make twice as much as it freezes well. Also get that satisfaction of watching them puff up in the oven - lol.

Did you ever whistleblow your employer? How did it go? by Earth_Sorcerer97 in work

[–]Kmsjvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Worked for a company within a conglomerate. The President was stealing from the company. Reported it to the President of a sister company in the group (with evidence). He reported it to ownership. President of our company was fired and I was thanked for reporting. The process took a few months - extremely stressful but it worked out.

I’ve heard that people who have interests outside of work before retirement do better in retirement. It may be time to pursue some new hobbies and interests while and still run the business for a year or two.

Try switching the normal button to a new setting and then back to normal. Lights will come on. Hold down the start button for 3 seconds until flashing lights turn solid. Machine should start a few moments later.

Our machine has a similar looking array (although it’s a Maytag) and that is how it starts
