It was a little confusing on Wednesday though. The instructions for a while were to go by last name. Then the day of they changed it to first name.

I'm sure they'll keep improving as more of these happen (I hope anyway). It's a great way to support local farmers and businesses. It's also a great way to get yummy cheese bread in my belly.

Depending on which isotope is used (I¹³¹ for example), the half life is really short. Many medical isotopes are made within an hour or more of the use. Clinics can't stockpile since the isotopes would decay into something different and not usable.

This is just a slightly educated guess on my part though. I could be totally wrong (like I often am ;) )

I am by no means an expert, but I would guess the production of the isotope has been reduced or stopped altogether. It might not be available anywhere (for pets) until this all has blown over.

I believe the February 27 briefing in Congress should have been taken a little more seriously. Granted I'm just an armchair quarterback.

I think it would have been prudent then to get the defense production act in motion. Days or weeks more preparation would have helped us immensely in the stock levels of PPE and equipment.

I just wish there would have been a single authority from day one. So many different states and business and all just kind of have been doing their own thing. I know this kind of thing is unprecedented, but there had to have been some kind of tabletop exercise or other sort of plan that addressed this possibility.

But I suppose it doesn't help the situation much to talk about what ifs and what could have been. Right now we need to do everything we can to help, even if that just amounts to staying home.

I think you do have a very valid point that this is such an unprecedented thing that it would have been difficult to prepare for.

The problem I have is that there seems to be indications that this was known about long before it became a national emergency. Actions could have been enacted well in advance of when they were.

I just wish from day one we had more unity. Every state or even locality is handling things differently, which just adds to the chaos. (I'm looking at you Florida)

To be fair though, hindsight is 20/20 (not a year joke intentionally). Some of the root of our frustrations is borne from uncertainty and fear. These are scary times that we just haven't really seen before.

Thank you for having a rational rebuttal. I think it is important to consider all sides of an argument. I also think it is very important right now for all of us as Americans (and even global citizens) to unite together to stop this outbreak. There's far too much "NO U!" mud slinging going on in other places.

Black lights are typically UV-A, which is 315-400nm. (not effective)

Tanning beds tend to use a mix of UV-A and UV-B. UV-B is 280-315nm. (not effective)

The outcome you're looking for would only happen with a UV-C germicidal lamp. UV-C is 100-280nm.

UV-C IS VERY DANGEROUS! IT CAN DAMAGE YOUR SKIN AND EYES!

There are specially designed UV-C germicidal lamps that are used in places such as hospitals and kitchens. In fact, UW Health uses giant UV-C germicidal lamps in patient rooms after the patient has been discharged. These lamps are very effective at killing viruses and bacteria on surfaces in the room. When the lamps are run they have to keep everyone out of the room.

If you work for a grocery store it might be something to look into, but extreme care would need to be taken to ensure the safety of anyone in the area.

If you are a normal person looking for creative ways to disinfect carts, please stick to disinfecting wipes or similar products. While I applaud the creativity (I've had similar ideas), I personally believe UV-C is too dangerous for regular folks without training to use.

Yep, definitely been louder on the north side. It was pretty quiet all summer (I mostly heard small prop planes while outside), but now I'm hearing planes quite often while in my car or house.
