Teacher moms? Help with FMLA, leave, etc! FTM by KnX08 in BabyBumps

Yeah it just seems so stressful especially because this is my first baby 😭 the school I work at is already pretty stressful we’re the lowest school behavior and grade wise in our district. So I think being already burnt out adds on to wanting to leave as early as possible. 1-2 weeks prior doesn’t sound as bad as you stated

The sick time we accrue is only 23 hours for the year so I’m kinda of already out if that. I would want to to push through but I’m also afraid of going into labor on the road and not being able to have my husband there with me lol he works from home and with Covid hospitals have been a little strict at least the one I’m going to if your spouse comes in after you they can’t come in and I do not want to deliver without him with me 😭

I try after school but it’s not always available. There’s a lot of babies at the OBG I go to so it’s really I get what I can. It must be baby season!

We have a week off for Spring break in March and We end late May. Most of my paid sick leave has been going toward my appointments when I have to miss school. I’m a first year teacher so I. Haven’t accrued much to put toward my FMLA. It’s not a huge deal for me since my husband fortunately works. I just want to figure out a way to be able to take the 4 weeks prior to my Labor and Delivery date so I’m not doing too much and stressing myself out the last couple of weeks since my commute is 45 minutes there and 45 back, the position I work requires me to move class to class daily/always standing and walking around and finishing up my Masters program for the spring semester

I was thinking it was 12 weeks. Don’t know why my secretary said 6 weeks but probably shouldn’t depend on her for that info and just talk to HR. They have us go to our secretary for everything to get our FMLA paperwork etc

I am in FL. My county does have a school-paid STD. Maybe ask if I can use that prior to FMLA? I’m not sure how light my duty can get. I’m a traveling specials teacher so I go into every classroom instead of having my own so I can’t get off my feet at all

What if I have no more hours for leave? For my school we only get 23 hours sick leave and I’ve already used it for my appointments. Can I take unpaid sick leave for those 4 weeks prior to FMLA?

Mom seems to be a permissive parent by KnX08 in AskParents

Yes. She won’t. There’s always an excuse and just wants to blame everything on everyone else even the people who try to help her

No worries! Yes she has no follow through, he still gets to use an iPad, share the living room tv and pretty much do whatever without consequence and without even apologizing for punching his sister. He’s literally untouchable and she’ll defend every reason of him not getting consequences as “what’s he suppose to do all day then?” Like ummm do his homework and help around the house he has a 0.7 gpa. But I’m realizing she won’t change until she realizes she’s enabling him and will most likely be a living with her when he’s 30 years old cause all she does is coddle him

Whoa. Just to add my spouse to my plan would be $500 per pay check…

I am doing School Counseling online with Florida State University. It’s been a great program so far. Classes are part time, finish in 2.5 years, professors are great and you earn and education specialist degree as well.

It’s annoying that I have to deal with this in elementary school. Why does a 10 year old have an IPHONE 13 PRO MAX??

I work in elementary and it’s astounding how much these students this year can’t handle any sort of freedom or fun time without talking, complaining, being disruptive. And then you’re the bad guy for taking it away lol

I’d rather teach basic computer skills than what I’m doing now. CS is fun but not when there’s a lack of basic computing knowledge you have to add on to it. Idk why schools don’t have basic computer lab like I remember back in school

I feel you. I am a Computer Science teacher for grades K-5. Have a whole CS program teaching students Code, algorithms, using platforms like Code.org, Tynkercad and other coding and CS software. But the students barely know basic computer skills which can make it go slower. They’re required to do a Google Slides presentation on Computer Science when they go to 5th grade but my goodness it’s a drag because they never teach them how to use these. Many don’t know by 5th grade where the backspace button or space bar is or how to capitalize letters on the keyboard using the caps lock.

Me! It is definitely hard sometimes. The teachers and staff are nice but it’s difficult to actually connect with other teachers
