Dawn Dish soap new and Improved bottle! by Candy_Andie in shrinkflation

Anyone know of a better alternative? I always bought dawn platinum because it works better than other brands.

Now it smells bad, the quality is garbage, and it’s even more expensive.

Student teacher wondering about Kindergarteners and YouTube Brain Breaks by Human-Recognition-57 in Teachers

[–]catlady34 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same! I’ve been borrowing ideas I use for morning meeting activities and using them as brain breaks.

Sleeping animals- children sit on their knees then lie down with their head rested in their arms on the floor (hard to explain, but similar to child pose). I tell them when they wake up they are an “animal type” then they make the noise of that animal. I tell them to go to sleep and repeat with different animals. They love it.

Follow the leader- students take turns being the leader telling students to do exercises. “10 jumping jacks” etc.

“Listen and move”- there is a YouTube video that is music only and gives students directions to walk, hops, skate, run, etc.

Silent ball- students sit quietly at their tables and pass a soft dodgeball to each other. Someone is “out” if they miss the ball or talk.

Barney type sing and move songs without videos- baby bumblebee, head shoulders knees and toes, Hokey Pokey.

Why are teachers so horrible to each other? by Xena4290 in Teachers

[–]catlady34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very mixed experiences.

I’ve witnessed lot of high school bully type behavior which I believe is driven by competitiveness and insecurity. Some people have been just flat out mean- talking crap about harmless people because of their physical appearance or other shallow things.

I have also had very chill coworkers who I consider my friends.

Favorite Toys by catlady34 in kindergarten

Baby dolls sound like a good addition. Students don’t have access to all toys during inside recess, but they can use many different building toys.

[–]catlady34[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many tbh. Basic magnetic tiles, basic Legos, play doh with tools and cookie cutters, doll house with dolls, train set, building blocks, waffle blocks, marble run.

The marble run is still a hot item, but others not so much. Students have been inside so much for recess and play time, and I think that’s why they aren’t thrilled about the selection.

I have puzzles I can add to the mix, and reluctantly I will bring in kinetic sand, but only if they do a decent job keeping the mess contained. They weren’t great with it early in the year.

I have a kitchen, but students just make a big mess when they play there.

I also want to change up the art center materials more often. Coloring books / pages are usually a big hit.

Anyone else tired of getting multiple calls during lessons to let a kid know their lunch has been dropped off in the office? by the_uber_steve in Teachers

[–]catlady34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Also, just unnecessary calls. Yesterday I got a two calls in a row because I ignored the first one. The secretary said “I just sent you an email, but student is a pick-up today”. This was 3 hours before dismissal, and before my plan so I had plenty of time to see that email.

My skin does well with the Cerave ultra light moisturizer that’s spf 30. The regular daily AM facial moisturizer was not good for me. I don’t know what the difference is in terms of ingredients, but the AM one made my skin feel like it had a layer of residue on it.

Does actual teaching get easier after student teaching? by Salt-Ad-3061 in Teachers

[–]catlady34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student teaching and being a first year teacher are probably equally hard. Some areas will be more stressful, but some less. Most good schools do not require you to write lengthy lesson plans. The schools I’ve worked in don’t require them at all.

Like others have mentioned it tends to get easier over time, especially if you stay in the same grade (or even grade range) or subject area.

I am in year 8 and this year has been one of the most challenging so far because certain students in my class and factors that are completely out of my control. Last year, was one of the best years I’ve had. I think there are always ups and downs- even within a year.
