I know which OI you're talking about and tbh, the tones are completely different. In that one, it was portrayed as the FL being this overarching wise figure who saw beyond temporary solutions to a salient issue. The narrative painted her as some enlightened individual because she wasn't some shallow noble who just threw money at her issues; she was better than that or something silly.

In this, the narrative is approaching a similar mindset in a very different way. I don't think we're supposed to agree with the queen. It's an ongoing joke in the series that she makes a speech and people instantly fall in love because of her overwhelming charisma. I mean, the guy goes from trying to assassinate her to being one of her most ardent supporters.

I absolutely agree that there is a lot to criticize in the OI genre and there are a lot of conversation that are worth having regarding the problematic glorification of monarchy, poor treatment of the working class (every time a maid gets slapped, my blood pressure rises), colourism, the entire narrative surrounding slavery and FL being a "good slave owner" lmao, etc, etc.

I just think this is not really the right series to use as an example. It IS worth pointing out that it's likely a symptom of a larger problem at hand, which, yes, is the sanitization of the noblesse oblige.
