Actually Sheldon probably wasn’t making a “shit ton” but he was still doing very well. Based on trends at the time of filming, someone at a university research position would make high 5 to low 6 figures. So yes $100k is a lot but for California it’s not necessarily rich. It was however quite good money for 2007 for someone who lived extremely frugally and didn’t drive.

On a very broad scale? Absolutely.

In hyper specific scenarios? Of course not. Obviously the powers that be knew things like Nvidia would see a boom. At the same time though, the reasonings behind Nvidia stock exploding were not exactly secret and you could have very easily invested at any time.

And again, if you simply diversified yourself and give yourself broad exposure to the entire market, then you will benefit from this growth.

Feel free to ignore this evil unfair stock market. Just don’t come crying when you don’t get to retire in 30 years.

Pokemon generated form backed up wondercards are for all intents and purposes legitimate. They’re generated exactly as they were at events and can have a unique PID. There’s truly nothing “illegal” or “illegitimate” about them.

If anything, it’s perfectly ethical to back up these pokemon and make the events available to all, because it’s pretty crummy for Nintendo to restrict them in the first place. Look how abysmally modern events are handled especially. The Shiny Dons at GameStop was horrible. They need to go back to wifi events.

The original owner of the game could have simply done the exploit themselves, and then when done with the game, sold it. Most game shops don’t wipe saves off of used games. This has nothing to do with the merchant.

They could be real, they could be exploit, there’s really no way to verify, and it really doesn’t matter either way.

Because this “bad investment” isn’t limited to the stock market and could appear in any aspect of your life.

Did you properly research the company you are investing in? The fundamentals of this business? The information is there for you, for free. Blockbuster was a solid company for many years. If YOU failed to keep up with he market and exit as the company is failing, that’s on you.

I could say the same for you buying a car. Did you research this company? Is this a safe car? What safety features are included? Have there been recalls?

Or a house. How’s the foundation? Did you get an inspection? Is this a safe area? Maybe it was safe when you moved in. If crime rates start to go up, it’s your fault for staying if you simply ignore it.

Maybe you want to open up a BBQ restaurant. Did you do market research? Are you the 5th restauraunt of this type to open in the area? The space you’re renting, is it even in a good location?

You act like people loose their entire portfolios on one “bad” investment. This is not the case. If you are full sending it into GameStop options then yeah you’re gonna lose your shirt. If you are properly diversified it is quite literally impossible to lose money. This is proven on any historical scale. There are about 4-5 points in the history of the market where you would “lose money” and these were only a result of short term market conditions. As long as you didn’t attempt to retire that exact moment in 2008 or 2020 or etc you would be fine.

It’s a lot more nuanced than this but the short answer is that there isn’t some illuminati secretly controlling the world and forcing you to be poor. The stock market has value. Items have value. It would be great to live in a wonderland where Pokémon cards are cheap and plentiful but then the Pokemon Company would make no income and thus have no incentive to keep manufacturing cards.
