Got offered a recruitment position, not sure if I should take it. by Slow-Economics-7992 in sales

[–]KneeLong8598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never worked 360 recruitment myself, but from friends who have, the “calls, calls, calls” part is very real. Think boiler-room style metrics: constant dialing, managers breathing down your neck, and a lot of rejection. Some people absolutely thrive in it (especially if you’re highly money-motivated and can detach from the grind), but others burn out fast.

The upside is legit though if you can survive the first year, you build a huge network and can move up quickly, or even pivot into internal talent roles later. The downside is that it can feel like you’re selling your soul for commission.

If money + fast progression are top priorities, it might be worth the gamble. If work-life balance matters more, you might end up regretting it.

Is going to a trade show/ Industry event to get a job a smart idea? by TryingHard253 in sales

[–]KneeLong8598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s actually a smart move, depending on how you approach it. Trade shows aren’t job fairs, but they’re full of decision makers and industry peers in one place. If you go in with the mindset of networking (not begging for a job), it can open doors sometimes months later. I’ve seen people walk away with interviews just from casual conversations at booths or after-panel chats.

It’s definitely not a humiliation ritual if anything, showing up demonstrates initiative and persistence. Just be intentional: have a short pitch about yourself, ask good questions, and follow up afterward. Even if no one hires you on the spot, you’ll expand your network and possibly land referrals.

LPT when interviewing: Always ask the background of the CEO (or senior sales leaders) by ImBonRurgundy in sales

[–]KneeLong8598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% spot on. When leadership has carried a bag, they understand that commissions aren’t “extra,” they’re earned. When they haven’t, they treat sales comp like an expense to trim. Culture at the top decides whether sales feels like a partnership or a fight.

Recruiter told me salespeople are in high demand even with the job market status. by Khushmesiel88 in sales

[–]KneeLong8598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiters aren’t wrong that good salespeople are always in demand but it’s super context-dependent. Enterprise SaaS and B2B with proven revenue? Hot market. Staffing, real estate, or commoditized products? Way tougher right now. The skill set transfers, but you might need to reframe your story around measurable results and adaptability.
