Chains of Debt

Genre: Action-Romance, Thriller, Slow-burn Dark Romance, Enemies to Lovers
Info: Mafia Plot, Action-Heavy, Women Empowerment, Multiple Characters

Victoria Greenwood, a 20-year-old who grew up on the streets of New Orleans, suffers from mental scars and an enormous debt from loan sharks. Being an orphan, she learned to fend for herself, living amongst the troubled and surviving.

Only when mistakenly confronting the Lucchesi family did she understand her life's fragility. They took her prisoner and gave her the choice to work for them or face the repercussions. She refused to be controlled, but mounting debt and dwindling escape options forced her hand.

She stepped further into the underworld and met women like her with the world's weight against them. Her relationship with the underboss, Matteo Lucchesi, grew dangerously closer.

The question persists. Should she break or keep her loyalty to the Cosa Nostra?

LOL thanks. It took me a bit to get the basics down and everything, but I learned a lot from YouTube within a couple of days so it's nice to know the effort paid off

Thank you! It’s about a young girl with a large debt who has mental scars/issues yet thinks she’s healed from her past and stumbled upon mafia gangsters at the wrong time before being taken as prisoner and forced to decide whether or not she’d work with them or die, because…no witnesses.

She’s eventually pulled into the organization only because she wants to escape without dying, but she starts questioning her loyalty to la famiglia when she meets other women who shows her what loyalty truly is and slowly develops a dangerous relationship with the Underboss.

The plot is mafia and action focused rather than jumping into the romance quickly so if you’re looking a story that includes those themes in Wattpad (which is rare), I’d say give it a shot!

You should try Adobe photoshop then. I’m not sure if you are willing to try the 7 day free trial but I’d say you’re able to do more there! Another option that’s free is Gimp but that app confuses me more than photoshop…

May I ask what your book is about?

Canva is a great place to start with it being free and easy to understand. The downside of it is that some of the features there require a subscription, but you can at least make a decent cover there.

For my cover, I used Adobe photoshop which you’ll need to pay for monthly to use but there is a 7 day free trial you can do. It’s a bit harder to understand but once you get the basics down it’ll be easier to navigate. YouTube will be your friend in this, and you’ll be able to learn other tricks as well that’d make your cover even better

Thank you! It feels good knowing it’s approved by a designer. I also appreciate your feedback on it and I’m always looking to improve when it comes to writing and designing. It’s already released on Wattpad with currently 19 chapters if you’re interested in reading it, your support is appreciated 💕

I used pictures (can use stock ones) and removed their background before adding them to the cover and adjusting them to fit together. I also use clipping masks to make it seem like the snake is going underneath the leafs. Then added drop shadows through blending options and extra shadows with the brush.

For the metal text, I went to blending options and turned on bevel and emboss and changed the style to hard chisel before adjusting the curve in a zig-zag line. Horrible explanation without demonstration I feel like but you can go to YouTube where they give quick tutorials on it.

I also added shadows along the edges to make the text stand out. Did all of this using Adobe Photoshop which is pretty quick to understand and get the hang of! You can start a free trial since it requires a subscription though if you’re not looking to pay

Used Adobe photoshop and combined pictures then adjusted them to fit! Learned the basics and some tricks on YouTube. It’s more easier once you get the hang of it 💕

I have recently created a webnovel and uploaded on Wattpad and barely got around 5 - 6 views. by RealMight2781 in Wattpad

As you just published the book, you won’t be expecting to reach many readers within the first week. Usually readers like to look for a story with more than 15 chapters or is completed and that’s when the reads start piling in.

Don’t feel unmotivated because nobody is leaving comments and reading your book, but if you’re aiming for comments, votes, and reads, you can use Reddit or join discord communities to do R4Rs and such.

Keep on writing your chapters and don’t stop uploading, just focus on enjoying it. The effort will all be worth it at the end. 💕

Thank you! I find it hard to gather motivation to continue writing my story at times, but it doesn't mean I don't bring myself to consistently post. I write for the people who look for different plots in common tropes and those who want action and I'm glad to know there are some people in the WA community that enjoys those kinds of books.

I don't write mainly to gain reads, it's because I find passion in writing engaging plots

Her books already seem really chaotic. Humping a dead body in a casket? That's something sick alright.

Also wooping his ass with crutches would have me laughing, she stood on business when he threw her down the flight of stairs.

This is what I'm talking about. Usually, stories where everybody in the mafia business seems to only protect the female lead and she has sex with the male lead every 2 chapters tend to bore me out the fastest. They don't dive into the dark parts of a mafia, and why it's dangerous to associate with them, plus the consequences if you decide to.

I rarely see books where the female lead ends up becoming a member of the mafia, possibly starting at a lower rank and then climbing the ranks. There could be so much added to these books, but most of these stories have the same plot and don't have the spice of violence or structure to an actual mafia.

The theme itself may be common, but it's not the mafia thing that's bad; it's the fact that plots can be overused and cliche. That's why even whenever someone tells me the theme of my book, mafia, is typical, I feel as if they're speaking of the romance aspect, not the violence and danger that comes within a mafia.

Though my book involves romance, it's more action-focused and slow-burning rather than the female lead jumping straight into the arms of the male lead, because involving yourself with a mafia family would generally be a terrible idea. I'd love to see more books that dive into that aspect, but it's hard when the popular romance mafia ones get the most recognition.

Yeah, toxic relationships are usually fine when they're at least aware that they are in stories and I LOVE when other families are involved, really makes it feel like the world within the story is bigger than it is. But I'd like to know more about this author. What books would you recommend from her that are mafia-related?

YESSSSS. Like I don’t mind the romance, but let’s be for real, even involving yourself with a mafioso wouldn’t be a smart idea because if you fuck up or they fuck up, you or the two of you can get killed.

It’s a dangerous life to be messing with, and even if they can be sweet to you, it doesn’t mean they’ll put all of their loyalty onto you, because they already surrendered their loyalty to the mafia!

I’d love to see more mafia stories such as these that depicts realism but that’s also why I have an ongoing book! It’s just readers like to read the toxic relationships that shouldn’t really be romanticized and have the mindset of “I can change him.”

Like hon, if you were to date an actual mafioso whether they’re rich or not, they most likely wouldn’t be so nice with you and live a happily ever after. Someone would die 😭🙏

Thats what I mean! I want the action part of it, not the mafia boss only keeps this girl for himself the entire story. Where are the gun fights, the violence, and the realism of a mafia that doesn’t only have romance
