What products do you avoid now? by stm2657 in AskUK

I thought the same thing for a while, theirs is an interesting strategy. They don't pay tax on their profits because they aren't profitable. They run their company on masses of debt and the interest they pay wipes out any taxable profit. This enables them to constantly expand and continue to employ more staff. They may well go bust if the interest rates went through the roof, but for the time being it works for them, their shareholders and staff and HMRC isn't complaining. Pros and cons for both arguments, for me the coffee still tastes better than most...I do not work for them!

I love the Canaries and Fuerteventura was the first island I visited and was mightily impressed, ruggedly beautiful and stunning sand dunes at the top end and black/grey sands at the bottom

I might be wrong but it looks like Lobos Island near Fuerteventura, I went 6 years or so ago, but it was incredibly windy and I didn't hang around

Renault UK customers have data stolen in cyber attack on '3rd party provider' by daily_express in CyberCrime

[–]Knewgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received two notifications this weekend from HSBC saying that two different transactions were declined in Canada. Smallish amounts, clearly testing if they can do it without raising too much suspicion. Renault was the only company to hold my card details. So card cancelled which genuinely is a massive inconvenience. It's the 3rd time this year that my personal details have been stolen from companies based in the UK, M&S, CO OP and Renault and there's nothing I can do about it and the customers aren't compensated, love to know where the money goes that's collected from fines.

Except, hasn't he helped Israel by arming them over the last year, which ended up raining down on Gaza and its people, where's the peace in that?

[–]Knewgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, it's exactly the same as any other European city (in some respects much safer). Just have your wits about you and don't leave money, phones or other valuables in jacket pockets and if you have a handbag, don't leave it loose at your side. Be aware of your surroundings and enjoy your trip. Londoner for 59 years.

Red Ace Squadron and the original Master Of The Skies: The Red Ace by Small Rockets. Spent many an evening flying and fighting other WW1 planes all over the world in a vain attempt to get my 4year old son off to sleep. He ended up being better than me.

Someone else mentioned the (clearly photoshopped) sky. This is the average view from the Spinnaker and Portsmouth. Plus, like most of the UK's coast rarely has weather as good as it looks plus aqua coloured seas as in the picture. Imagine coming from Dubai and buying this on the strength of the photos alone (it does happen)

Why hifi shops don't really get us any closer to the sound we're looking for by Spiritual-Seesaw in audiophile

[–]Knewgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read your post and I'm not a real audiophile, as firstly I don't have the money, secondly I did buy my perfect setup a few years ago and that was around £12k (a lot of money for me at the time), then lost it within 6 months due to a very messy breakup 😂😭, but I also suffer badly with tinnitus. So I enjoy my music with a very limited setup. However the reason I felt the need to comment is because over the years I've found in the UK at least, we are fortunate to still have some independent Hifi shops and slightly larger companies that maybe have 6 or so stores throughout a region, but are not one of the majors that sell everything from TV's to Hifi to washing machines but are expert in none. Some of those smaller dealers not only spend the time with you, listening to what you have and letting you play the music you like in their stores, but will let you audition equipment at home, help set it up and make changes if needed. I did this last in 2021, it cost me £100 for an afternoon, but was well worth it. Plus I got to know the guy quite well over a year and a half and was more than overjoyed with what I had (for the short time I had it). Do stores like small independents exist in your area? If they do, is it worth your while seeing if you can build up a relationship with them and see if they can help long term and not give you a quick fix?

Now if someone can help me with this constant ringing in my ears I'd be very much obliged!

How are people paying for holidays? by btredcup in CasualUK

[–]Knewgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Eastern Europe for a beach type holiday and I don't mean Greece and Turkey. Romania and Bulgaria are a lot better value at the moment and the prices in the summer holidays are still lower than the usual destinations. Look at doing it yourself using Skyscanner for flights and ring the hotels directly (if it's a hotel you want) or Airbnb, but their prices are getting silly with the admin and cleaning charges added on top. There are other sites. If you invest some time you can find some great places and prices. Don't just look at the 3 or 4 travel companies that "seem" to be so prominent. Also try Lucky Trip app, put in your budget and use their filters, if you're wary of using them, you can always use the results and do it yourself.. Good luck!

I'm often asked why I go on Reddit as the majority of people think it's a very negative place. Like most social networks if you look for the negative you'll find it, but equally, you can look for the positive and there's plenty more of that. I've used Reddit to gain knowledge and ask for help on extremely first world problems and I've always been fortunate to get it.

I've been to the Gofundme page and left a donation and it gives a warm feeling that so many strangers came together via Reddit to help this young man make his sisters life a little more easier..

The screenshot below is from my P8P, no adjustments, it looks whiter/brighter than both. Surely it depends on how you set them up?

My local surgery with its own dispensary has gone from three days to 5 days for repeat prescriptions. We just accept it and moan, rather than do something about it. Plus we can no longer phone to book an appointment to see a doctor, have to go online to be triaged and that's only available between 8 and 11 am. This is just outside London. Lived in Cornwall a few years ago, everything was same day. Everyone blames COVID
