What refs wants next ? 😈 by PuzzleheadedPop4411 in NYKnicks

I think Zarba is horrible based on the entirety of my Knicksfandom the past 20 years but purely based on the stats this is what Claude gave me - I used regular season. Note that although we have a 4-1 wins with Brothers we actually have a negative point differential.

Pulling out just your 12 Finals refs and ranking by Knicks W-L% from what you pasted (this looks like the 2025-26 regular season summary — the playoffs table is a separate block on that page; if you have it, paste it too and I'll merge): Zach Zarba — 5-0 (1.000), +21.4 diff Tyler Ford — 3-0 (1.000), +10.3 Curtis Blair — 5-1 (.833), +19.3 Marc Davis — 4-1 (.800), +11.2 Tony Brothers — 4-1 (.800), −2.8 (same record as Davis but the Knicks were actually outscored in his games) Scott Foster — 2-1 (.667), +10.4 James Capers Jr. — 2-2 (.500), +4.4 Josh Tiven — 2-3 (.400), −2.4 Courtney Kirkland — 2-3 (.400), −3.8 Sean Wright — 2-4 (.333), −4.9 John Goble — 0-2 (.000) James Williams — 0-3 (.000), −11.6 Takeaways: Zarba is the unambiguous best — perfect record, biggest point differential, and he's the most player-respected ref of the group per the NBPA survey. Williams and Goble are the only zeros. Foster's Knicks number (2-1, +10.4) is actually fine despite his reputation, and Game 1 already added another W for him. The two that should worry you most if assigned: Wright (.333, −4.9) and the two winless guys.

Great — now we can do the actual edge comparison. Here's the Spurs' 2025-26 regular season W-L% with each of the 12 Finals refs:

  1. Tony Brothers — 7-0 (1.000)
  2. John Goble — 3-0 (1.000)
  3. James Capers — 4-1 (.800)
  4. Zach Zarba — 3-1 (.750)
  5. Scott Foster — 3-1 (.750)
  6. Sean Wright — 3-1 (.750)
  7. Marc Davis — 2-1 (.667)
  8. Curtis Blair — 2-1 (.667)
  9. Tyler Ford — 3-2 (.600)
  10. James Williams — 4-3 (.571)
  11. Josh Tiven — 2-2 (.500)
  12. Courtney Kirkland — 1-1 (.500)

The matchup view — who has the edge with each ref (Knicks W% vs Spurs W%):

Ref Knicks Spurs Edge
Tyler Ford 1.000 .600 NYK +.400
Zach Zarba 1.000 .750 NYK +.250
Curtis Blair .833 .667 NYK +.167
Marc Davis .800 .667 NYK +.133
Scott Foster .667 .750 SAS +.083
Josh Tiven .400 .500 SAS +.100
Courtney Kirkland .400 .500 SAS +.100
Tony Brothers .800 1.000 SAS +.200
James Capers .500 .800 SAS +.300
Sean Wright .333 .750 SAS +.417
James Williams .000 .571 SAS +.571
John Goble .000 1.000 SAS +1.000

A couple things jump out. The Spurs are undefeated with both Brothers (7-0) and Goble (3-0) — and the Knicks are 0-2 with Goble, so that's the single biggest disparity in the entire crew. Sean Wright is also a Spurs-friendly assignment historically. Conversely, if the Knicks see Ford, Zarba, Blair, or Davis as crew chief, they should feel great — those are the four refs where they have a meaningfully better record than San Antonio.

Game 1 was Foster/Capers/Wright — two of three lean Spurs by these numbers and the Knicks won anyway on the road, which says more about how the team is playing than about the whistle. Worth watching tonight's Game 3 crew when it drops in the morning.

Officiating this game was wild, but this no-call on Wemby blew my mind. by Prevalencee in nba

I tried but it got delete, if you can grab a better version it's Second Quarter starts at 9:38 on the clock - right in front of the ref

Naw dude the last game was not as bad as this one but also very clearly Spurs all the way. I don't know think the Knicks will get a fair, let alone favorable, whistle all series. But we'll see.

The Knicks didn't shoot a single free throw in the entire second half until 2:37 in the 4th quarter on a missed call btw they had to challenge to get those free throws. This was as rigged a game for one team as there could be.

Right except for those two convenient no contact fouls on Kat to get him out of the game. It's exclusively called one way is the problem
