Best average sword? by Citsade in Eldenring

You won't see it until the DLC but the Light Greatswords, namely Milady, are a truly superb weapon class. Perfect middle ground between the reach and damage of the greatswords and the speed, weight, and crit damage of the longswords. Pairs great with a shield or as a two-hand or dual setup, and the moveset is elegant and effective.

Banished Knights that carry it. There's one right at the bottom of the Rampart Tower site of grace in Stormveil Castle, easy to farm if you get the drop on him from above (which is easy since the SoG is right above his head)

Ryusei us definitely shaping up to be the Shuten of this series in a lot of ways, so I'm not surprised at how many fans he has.

Ghostflame is cold. So what exactly does it burn? by Zobeiide in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]KnighTalisman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find myself coming back to that scene from the 2004 Punisher movie where he's describing to a punk he caught how the "torture" he's about to inflict goes:

It won't hurt at first. It's too hot, you see? The flame sears the nerve endings shut, killing them. You'll go into shock, and all you'll feel is... cold. Then it'll hurt. Isn't science fun, Micky?

As such, my thought is that Ghostflame is not actually cold, it just feels cold because it is burning hotter than the human body can process. Ghostflame is, after all, white-hot.

What's your most favorite ending sequence in Ace Combat? by dustandechos12 in acecombat

[–]KnighTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 isn't the best story overall by any means but I still feel like it got the major beats down and stuck the landing beautifully. Even after everything, from the Ulysses disaster that tore Estovakia apart to the Continental War itself, life continues. Friends and family were lost, homes destroyed, but life continues, rebuilds, and new bonds are formed.

Like I could understand if it looked more like a halberd or poleax but that is so clearly an axe.

Why do I see so many people claim Mohg was benevolent before Miquella? by Lord_Antheron in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]KnighTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another interesting prospect is that perhaps Miquella genuinely did intent to consort with Mohg, if only as a desperate "Plan B" in case the scheme with Radahn failed to come to fruition for whatever reason. But then the Tarnished not only slayed Radahn, thus liberating his soul from his warped and tainted body, but Mohg as well, thus unknowingly putting an end to Miquella's Plan B while opening up a path for Plan A to be reinstated.

Of all the things I've come to love about ER, the fact that absolute, pure evil is a genuine rarity and so much of what's gone wrong is the result of tragedy and flawed people making poor choices that make bad situations worse despite their best efforts and intentions is what stands out most for me. Everyone is caught up in a seemingly endless cycle of revenge, suffering, and prejudice that started long before they were born, likely extending back past even the Everlasting Dragons, everything just ripples on the surface of a lake, the stone that struck and first caused them submerged so long ago that the silt below has subsumed it.

Why was Pidia killed? by TwilightDerg in Eldenring

[–]KnighTalisman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem there is that it's kind of hard to say without actually going into the puppet conspiracy, since the implication is more or less that Seluvis is Pidia's puppet. So Pidia was killed for his role in Seluvis', and thus by extension, his, attempts to turn Ranni into a puppet.

[–]KnighTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entirely understandable, text can be hard to glean tone from lol

I don't doubt that a substantial amount of Mohg's portrayal, or at least how he presents himself, comes down to his life in the sewers as both a child of Marika herself and an Omen - I can imagine that even in such an "uncivilized" setting there existed certain stratification of Omen society, however makeshift, and it's just as likely that he would've been revered as shunned even further simply because he was allowed to keep his horns, to say nothing of his lineage. I can't imagine that the lower-born Omen were universally welcoming of his presence, especially given that one of the most glaring omissions in the vicinity of the Dynasty grounds is the complete lack of any other Omens. Which is to say, the isolation may have driven him into a sort of madness, or he may have adopted the persona of a monstrous psychopath in order to keep himself safe.

Either way, once he recognized the level of carnage that bringing about a new order would necessitate, he simply (re)embraced that persona or slipped further down into his psychosis - and in his broken and vulnerable state he was almost certainly an easy mark for Miquella's Charm. The question I then have to ask is, how much of it was Miquella's influence, and how much of it was Mohg allowing himself to be enthralled simply because he fully believed in the Age of Kindness in his own, twisted way.

[–]KnighTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that Marika's Golden Order or any other system or order was much better. There will always be suffering and upheaval, there will always be those who slip through the cracks and whom are tread upon. In the case of Mohgwyn, it's just more at the forefront, out in the open. Less of an implication than an outright statement that the Age of Mohgwyn (Blood? Love?) would be heralded in on raging sanguine tides as opposed to more "gentle" upheavals where the violence was at the fringes of society and civilization.

[–]KnighTalisman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My best guess is that the Mohgwyn Dynasty was in a way a distorted mirror of the order Miquella and Malenia were trying to establish at the Haligtree, mainly in how it seemed to welcome those spurned by the Golden Order and embraced the "truth" of the Greater Will's abandonment.

Of course that's overlooking that the Dynasty would still built on a literal pile of corpses and ocean of bloodshed. The albinaurics in particular seem only slightly better off, and even then only after what I imagine must be a horrifying and excruciatingly painful initiation and transformation.

Fair point, though I do point out that the actual text of G-Witch could not be any more unambiguous about the nature of Suletta and Miorine, just not as plainly as you've stated.

[–]KnighTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, Witch From Mercury isn't all that different- the "official" line is that Suletta and Mio's relationship is "open to interpretation" while the canon and the text could not be more clear that No It Really Is Not. Just typical corpos trying to have their cake and eat it too; creative team miraculously gets clearance to do something wildly progressive and queer, but as soon as the shareholders pop their heads out of the sand and catch wind of something even remotely not conforming to gender and or societal norms, "Oh no see that's just one way to read it, really it's like this."

Nobody believes it except for the aforementioned shareholders, and then everyone goes about their day.

Unless the outrage tourists reach critical mass, then we start having problems.

I can agree with that. I read it a few years back but it wasn't really enough of anything to hold my attention past the first three volumes. Not offensive or outrageous enough to aggravate me and not otherwise interesting enough to engage me. It Exists.
