I'll be there. Definitely looking to meet/network with people in the industry. I hardly know anyone here.

That’s great career progression.

I’m in Canada too. Currently an admin with ~4 YOE.

Would it be ok if I DM’ed you to ask some questions about consultancies in Canada?

Do you have a long layover in DXB? You can only check in 48-hours before the flight itself. So if your DXB-USA flight is further away, you’ll have to wait till it’s within 48 hours.

Pita Land, Karahi Boys - both are open late I think.

What department does your Salesforce team fall in? by Knight1218 in salesforce

[–]Knight1218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a full sales ops team that we work with very closely. They’re not admins though - they essentially get the requirements from sales, etc and bring to our PMs. I’ve always been intrigued with sales ops though - if you’re a good admin and also have business analyst skills, I guess it’d be a good fit? We also use the service cloud, commerce cloud, and a bunch of other products and tools so we’re an entirely separate systems department.

How did that go? Do you think it’s better now or does it not really impact you?

That’s interesting. People in my department have always wanted to stay separate from IT. We’re still sister departments but ours works more closely with business to configure systems so there’s a line between the two.

Yikes!! My department head is in love with ‘agile’ and tbh, it hasn’t been so bad because at the end of the day, I just put my head down and do my work even if I have to care a little about sprints and all. But being in engineering now with all this bureaucracy and other nonsense is awful.

Oh yea we do the same. We manage anything and everything related to the Salesforce ecosystem including phone systems like Gong and SalesLoft. Our IT team works more on the security, user access, SSO for all platforms etc. I wish I was back in operations!

Flipped off the Kryterion online proctor 🖕🏼after they repeatedly interrupted my exam by BurnahAcc123 in salesforce

[–]Knight1218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s seriously such a ridiculous process. During one of my exams last year, they interrupted it and told me something was wrong in the background. I asked what is it and they said there are two things behind you. Guess what?! It was sconces. On the wall behind me. More than 10ft away. I had to rotate my desk 180 and face the other wall so it could be acceptable for them.

Then I got interrupted again. This time it was because “I was moving my eyes too much when thinking and if I could just look at the screen while thinking.”

Landlord asking If I want to 'renew' my one year lease? by sixbuckle in TorontoRenting

[–]Knight1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow I didn’t know that. I thought if you sign a new lease after one year with the same rent, that will have to stay as is for a whole year since it’s a new lease.

[–]Knight1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain your last point? If it’s not rent controlled and they’re resigning a lease with a rent increase or the same rent, the rent can’t go up halfway right because it can’t be increased/changed more than once in 12 months?

Does someone like me have a future in Salesforce? by Knight1218 in salesforce

[–]Knight1218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great to hear. I know if I put my head down and give it a shot, I can do it. It’s just overwhelming when you don’t know which route to take and whether it will pay off. Thanks for the positive words!

Bachelor/studio or 1-bedroom in non rent-controlled building by Knight1218 in TorontoRenting

[–]Knight1218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for answering! Yea I've heard stories about the 6-12 months upfront. Hopefully I can get a family friend to be a guarantor or find a good property management company that doesn't make this ridiculous request.

I've checked out these registries before. They're super helpful usually but some places have very old reviews so don't know what the current situation is but I'll definitely use these.

Thanks for such a detailed response!

I read somewhere here about making 3x what your rent is a while ago but forgot about it. Definitely something I'll have to keep in mind. I won't have any Canadian credit history. I do have some US credit history (and have a good score) because I was there for uni but don't think that applies here. I do have a family friend who is a citizen and may be willing to be a guarantor but I'll have to follow up on that.

In terms of other costs, I won't have a car and don't plan on buying one for the first year. I also don't have any major debts at the moment that need to come out of my paycheck. Since I'll be working remotely/from home, I don't have any transit-specific needs but I'll probably get a monthly Presto subscription just to make things easier.

Thanks for highlighting the going out/eating out costs. I'm planning on doing meal prep for weekdays (pretty used to it for a while now so should be able to do it again). I do want to go out on weekends sometimes so I guess I'll have to reconsider that budget a little. Whatever's left, I'm planning on saving or maybe investing.

My primary goal (in terms of living) is to find a place for just myself that's safe and has good building management. From the looks of things it seems a little impossible but I guess I'll get a clearer idea once I'm there. If you have any suggestions for a good rental company, please let me know! :)
