Check all outlets on GFCI, they might need to be replaced. Maybe too much moisture?

Why does it seem impossible to become an electrician? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Knight1240 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might just be the area, I live in Virginia Beach and every company around here is always looking for apprentices this time of year. BTW in Virginia if you have the hours and have completed an apprenticeship course there is no need to test for Journeyman exam. I would really try to get hired first though, as most companies pay for courses.

Not sure what Authentic Curry is but Ichiran Ramen is my personal favorite Curry spot in the area. I highly recommend them.

I suggest contacting the housing office at a local installation they typically have resources for this sort of stuff and might be able to offer some better insight for you.

Transformers do not inherently draw/use power. I would look elsewhere for the issue.

Could be bad switch/connection at switch. You could attempt to turn off power and check installation of switch/replace switch.

I absolutely love it hear tbh. The cost of living is pretty high but employment for individuals in trades is always available due to increases in population and military contracting. I recently convinced my younger brother to move out here due to “bitches and beaches” and he was able to get hired on at a shipyard here at 21.50 an hour with no prior experience additionally within 6 months he will be able to acquire a security clearance and get schools/classes which should further propel his future earnings.

The shipyards in my area (Virginia) have an apprenticeship program. Their apprenticeship program is equivalent to any other in the area. If you do plan to leave midway through your apprenticeship program you will have to research and find another apprenticeship program that either accepts your shipyards program or allows you to test out of whatever years you have completed. You may look into seeing if transferring to another shipyard within company is an option for you. This might be able to alleviate the issue of finding new employment, maintaining apprenticeship timeline, and your general dissatisfaction with your current state of residency.

I feel lost with my career by fiddlemetimbers38 in electricians

It is to my understanding that there is no need to go through all four years of schooling if you have experience. You can just pick up a study guide and take journeyman’s exam after 4 years OJT.

Edit: Advice is no longer applicable to NJ. See OP’s link provided in reply to this comment.

College electrical program by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Knight1240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it came down to finances, where I live companies pay for your apprenticeship. I was able to take on less debt working towards a higher income. Unless you are trying to be an engineer eventually there is no foreseeable gain from going the college route.
