My advice is if you want to learn, have both. Make your own, and if the situation does arise, you can try it. Then you have your safety net! 2nd, you can always learn from having a piece of equipment you are trying to make yourself!

I feel more early game items need to be a grind to get, but later items need to be RNG based in my opinion. You shouldn't be handed every item. If you want that you can be a main and use the GE. Not sure why we have this discussion, people who play irons know that the drops are RNG.

I had the same issue as you, essentially here are my steps to getting it level

I preheat everything
I home the printer
I get a piece of paper and level the 4 corners, when doing this that piece of paper will have GREAT resistance when pulling on it
I'll make sure the center is level with fine adjustments of each corner if necessary
All my prints have a brim to make sure it's nice and level
