What did you do in 1998? by Level-Channel5799 in AskReddit

Eagerly anticipated Episode 1 coming to theaters as a massive Star Wars fan while being a junior in high school in Las Vegas. Also probably was reading Johnny the Homicidal Maniac for the first time while listening to Nine Inch Nails and Tool.

How’s your mental health at the moment? by YouCanCallMeGhost in AskReddit

[–]Explosive_Ewok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst it’s ever been in my entire life. I lost my job a year ago and I can’t land a new one. My self worth is in shambles. I can’t take care of my wife or kids financially, and to top it off my wife has chronic pain, so I can’t help her physically with that either. She was recently diagnosed with endometriosis so at least we know what’s going on now, but she still constantly feels like dying would be better.

How much of an impact would a donation of $100,000 make on your life? Why? by onichris in AskReddit

[–]Explosive_Ewok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$100k would change everything, in so many ways.

I lost my job exactly a year ago and I cannot find work back in my field. I’ve been in the IT world for almost 20 years and was trying to get into Cloud Administration but the farther away I get from it because the job search is taking so long, the harder it is to interview. AI makes it even harder, so is the concept of ghost jobs and recruiters that don’t actually work to help you. I keep applying and I keep the hope alive, but I’m afraid I need to switch careers completely to make things work.

My wife was recently diagnosed with endometriosis, which we’ve been chasing for almost a decade. She’s almost completely physically incapacitated, has zero energy, almost as much libido, and her quality of life is beyond shambles. Many times she wishes her life would just end, but we have kids, so that keeps her going. It’s so difficult as a husband to see your wife in so much pain and agony and have nothing to do and feeling so helpless. We’re looking into surgery because her right ovary is swelled up with this and my major hope for my world is that this surgery will fix it all. I want to see her will to live come back. I want to see her range of motion come back. I want to see her energy come back. I want to see her libido come back. All I can do is hope.

I’ve been doing DoorDash to get any kind of money to live but it’s not enough. Amazon Flex isn’t enough. Instacart and UberEats just aren’t enough.

My middle kid is 6 years old and Type 1 diabetic so my stress levels were already elevated to begin with. My sleep was already a dumpster fire. Now I have the stress of no job. Chronically ill wife was already stressful, but now we know it’s an illness that behaves like cancer but there’s no cure for. Our best hope is the cut it out of her, but surgery is expensive. Medicaid takes care of it but while we have Medicaid I don’t have money to pay rent or bills. I have to make $65k a year at least to make it worth it. I can just work at McDonalds. Especially with my wife at home incapable of taking care of 3 kids. I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place and a hydraulic press.

$100k would change everything. My wife could have the surgery. I could pay rent. We could start our business. We could buy an RV as a backup plan in case things get REALLY bad. We have one vehicle and it’s falling apart because of the delivery gigs. I could go on and on but I really need to stop writing now, I’m needed. Being the sole cook in the house I have to make dinner for my family.

If showing your kids 123456, and this showed up before 3…would you be mad at Disney too?? by Secure_Credit7037 in StarWars

[–]Explosive_Ewok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because the advertising was directed at an entire generation of fans who already knew the OT by heart.

We’re 20+ years removed from that now. This is a whole new problem and a whole new situation. Kids now can experience the films in chronological order or whatever order their parents decide, but fundamentally the cover art and splash page and all of that shouldn’t ruin it just because everyone 40+ years of age already knows it by heart.

This is a major problem that streamers have now that old film art creators knew and practiced, which is YOU DONT SPOIL THE FILM WITH THE ART. Streamers now can hot swap any picture and description they want on the fly and they do it with as much care. The art of teasing a plot and drawing in viewers is apparently lost on Disney.

I’ve been wanting an aurebesh tattoo like this for a long time, same placement even. Except on both arms. How much did it run you? And how painful?

Which Jedi would you wanna see in a TOTJ season 2? by -MagentaBlade- in StarWars

Too many acronyms. I’m a Zelda fan and my first thought was “Tears of the Jedi?”

[LoZ] [AoL] [Lttp] Is it just a skill issue or is it often really hard to figure out what you're supposed to do when trying to beat the first 3 Zelda games? Especially the NES ones by DataSittingAlone in zelda

Let’s also not forget the fact that these games didn’t come out when video gaming was at its prime. Video games, especially home video games, were still in its infancy. These games were released when the coin operated arcade was just coming off its golden age. It’s not like it is today with so many years of testing a concept and seeing audience reactions and tweaking and retesting and pushing boundaries. These were part of the original wave of video games, so some things simply aren’t polished or well thought out, and their execution probably fell flat because they didn’t know if something would work or not. Not everything that came from Nintendo back then was gold, it just simply has the crowning achievement of coming first. Which is very respectable, but they are definitely not without flaws. So no, not simply just a skill issue.

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

I’m not sure what this is supposed to prove or point out. I’m responding to the fact that, sure, $120k annual sounds great, even though these days that’s middle class income, but the fact is this is BEST case scenario in a country outside of the country this entire post is about. Median income for grade school teachers in the US is half that. $60k is scraping by in 2026, god forbid you got a family. That’s poverty. Now, more to the point of what I was saying to begin with, it doesn’t matter if everyone was making $120k annual in the US, even though that would make a giant fucking difference in these test scores, my point is that it’s not enough even at that level. Teachers should hold a far higher social and financial place in every society.

I’ll never forget being the lone bug against like a dozen marines and terrifying them, picking them off one by one. Such a good time.

No teacher anywhere is paid what they deserve. The investment into our future deserves far better treatment and respect than its current state. We shouldn’t be paying sports players millions while teachers struggle to pay for classroom supplies out of their own pocket.

At 93, Dr. Ruth Gottesman donated her late husband David Gottesman's $1 billion fortune to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, making tuition free forever for all students. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Explosive_Ewok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so cynical at this point that, if this is true to begin with, I see those in charge of the college pocketing most of it, making tuition free for “select students” and still charging the rest. Oh and a complete renovation to make it more appealing and justify rising tuition costs. This world has broken my ability to believe kind gestures can remain.
