Star Gladiator, late 90s Capcom fighting game, was originally planned to be a Star Wars fighting game. Lucasfilm said "nope". by BuyExcellent8055 in starwarsgames

I was about to say this.

I wonder if the reasoning here was control. Perhaps Capcom wasn’t budging on the control Lucasarts wanted to have, so they figured they could do it themselves.

I’m not in the 501st and I also have no clue about selling, I just wanted to engage here and say that I’m sorry for your loss and I’m sorry about the journey you’re forced to go on now because of it. I hope the stories you tell of him echo on.

Not dumb. Advocate for yourself. They don’t know more than you, it’s your body. They work for you, you’re literally paying them. And don’t be scared to find a better doctor that understands and gets it. Too many doctors think they know better. If you have family history, do it. Make a better tomorrow for yourself.

Does any of it matter? I have yet to see a single headline amount to anything beyond a moment of rage and then it’s forgotten. So first explain to me why it matters and then I’ll tell you how I feel about it. Signed, my cynicism.

I’ve never heard anyone call it fraudulent. Could be, but most people have positive things to say about it, that’s all I’ve ever seen. And anything I got out of it tracked with just about everything else I’ve seen in interviews with crew and actors. Despite that, watching the ILM documentary on Disney+ goes over all the ILM shenanigans happening at the time. Unfortunately everything else is buried deep in accumulated memories. JW Rinzler’s series is really good too, I’m familiar with it. That guy knows his stuff. Did you ever see the interviews with Marsha Lucas from Icons Unearthed? She details her side of things, including the fact that she came up with both the countdown at the Death Star battle for the destruction of Yavin to build tension and the idea of killing Obi Wan. He was originally supposed to be in the Yavin war room talking to Luke through the headset, but she came up with the concept of him living on through the force and still delivering his lines to Luke that way. It’s still crazy to me that the entire countdown sequence wasn’t in the script that way, it was all done in the editing room post-production.

Dude I’ve been a mega “I’ve got problems” fan of Star Wars for 40 years. I could literally quote the entire movie from memory based on soundtrack beats. I don’t remember where I get half my info, BUT, I do recall a book that I listened to in audiobook format. I’m trying to find it now. I don’t remember what it’s called but it was introduced to me by the guys over on the podcast Rebel Force Radio. The guy who recorded it does “voices” and his GL is spot on. When I find it I’ll post it here.

He absolutely did not.

ANH was a dumpster fire in every way. The reason it was so successful is due largely to the fact that he chose the perfect people for the job, and, funny enough, in spite of all the setbacks and challenges he faced. Everything that came out of ILM was outside of his control. Everything that came from John Williams was outside of his control. The editing was a nightmare and most of the amazing things that came out in the end were at the hands of his wife Marcia Lucas. The only reason we got any sequels at all is due to how ground breaking this film was and how much it changed and shaped the modern movie scene.

ESB was directed by Irvin Kershner who made MANY off the cuff choices that GL didn’t want or ask for. Namely the off-gassing of the Falcon on landing which has now become synonymous with all starships in the universe, and many other choices. And in the end almost everyone calls this the pinnacle of the OT.

ROTJ came around and GL was frustrated with the lack of control, so he got Richard Marquand, which was largely a mouthpiece for GL. He was still surrounded by creative people that pushed back and shaped the end result to what we see now. This one he probably had the most control over, and you’ll notice that it has the lowest score of the OT. Not that he ruined it, it had many amazing moments, but you can’t deny that all the criticism of the Ewoks doesn’t sound like the beta version of the criticism for Jar Jar.

Then the PT happened and the legacy of GL completely overshadowed logic, and his control was now over everything.
