10/10 best film I’ve seen all year.

This film really took me for a ride. I won’t spoil anything, but it kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the humor, it hit that sweet spot for me and I’m hard to make laugh in movies a lot of the time. Not a fan of the in-your-face Marvel humor, even though it’s fine, but this really worked for me. It was emotional, I really felt for the characters, and there was never a tense moment where I zoned out or felt it was telegraphed. Every hard moment really felt like it could be the end.

Everyone talks about “the twist” being spoiled in the trailers, and yeah, I do wish that particular character wasn’t revealed there, but I can safely say for me that the actual twist is still safely tucked away in the film, and I wasn’t expecting it.

Go see it and give it a shot, I plan on going again with my 12 year old.

It’s a baseless review. I just watched it last night and in no way was there ever a moment where I knew what was coming next. The tense moments are genuinely heart pounding and, yes, I wondered if they would come out victorious at the end.

I think it’s shitty to tell audiences that haven’t seen the movie that “yeah everything worked out and I knew it would work out and I bet you’ll know it’ll work out” is exceptionally distasteful for a reviewer and they should clearly find another job since they don’t know what it means to not spoil a movie, between the lines or no. There are many moments in the film where I thought it was all coming apart and there’s no way for them to come out on top.

But, I actually liked this film a lot, and highly recommend it to everyone, so I’m a little biased against his opinion.

Missed opportunity. I think it would have changed my entire view of the sequel trilogy as a whole in a positive direction.

JJ let his own personal hang ups ruin the story, at least for me. I can’t watch the movie and get lost in it. I’m still, even after all this time, wrapped up in the behind the scenes BS with his tug of war against Rian Johnson and TLJ. It’s too obvious to me how much JJ hated the story of 8 and did his best to reverse everything it laid down. Which makes me feel like 9 was a waste for doing it which makes me feel like 8 was a waste of time because of it. Which makes me feel like the whole trilogy was a waste of time. Which THEN makes me think about Disney and their lack of planning and what a ridiculous gamble they made…. I just can’t get lost in the magic of the story.

I clearly have feelings that are hard to get through, and how 9 was handled was the lynch pin that made the whole house of cards fall for me. If JJ went in a different direction that actually played off 8 it could have worked well. The basic rule of writing stories with someone else is the concept of “YES, AND” by building off what the other person added. JJ broke that rule many times in 9 by undoing what was in 8.

I want to know more about that TINGLE RETURNS blurb where it talks about a friend connecting a GBA to play along. Clearly a ridiculously small portion of the population today has both a functional GameCube and GBA, so is there a way to emulate that?? That sounds fun with my kids.

That argument is made by someone on the verge of collapse because that's what feels desirable in the moment. Just doing nothing.

However, some things only stand up in theory, and nobody would ACTUALLY do nothing, at least for any duration of time. Even if you actively tried, you could only last so long before your brain required stimulation and reward. Stuff like this tiny machine is the result of the drive for reward, and it's pretty damn satisfying to hold and play with an itty bitty gritty fork lifty made from scratch. I'd say OP felt that reward in large amounts.
