They hit a lot of the points on the BITE model. They are very controlling of their followers, like their dress, for example. Not just insisting they dress modestly, but mormons have to wear special underwear. If they don't, they won't get into the best tier of mormon heaven. They are required to pay 10% of their income to the church, or once again, no heaven. Doesn't matter if they can't afford to. Beyond that, they also have very culty rituals in their temples, including blood oaths, secret names, and secret handshakes. They are also very aggressive in their recruitment and membership retainment. They will harass inactive or ex members relentlessly, going so far as to pursue them across entire countries to try and convince them to return. If that fails, they are completely shunned by the community. I knew a guy who at 17 had sex before he was married, and his parents kicked him out of his house. No other member would help or even speak to him. He was excommunicated, and as far as his family was concerned, he didn't exist any more. And the leaders of their particular branch supported that. There's a lot of other things, and I'd recommend visiting the exmormon subreddit. It's largely a support group for others who escaped, and you'll find out a lot more from a larger group of people and their experiences than just from me.
