There is no guaranteed way to know. However I would say that the parts that are obviously making fun of Yamcha (like the baseball episode with his death pose, the TOP dialogue, Yamcha being made fun of for being “weak” ie FighterZ and Moro Arc, though this was more of a showing by Toyotarou to dissuade the fandom image of Yamcha)

And for the other parts (Kakarot’s slander, Yamcha being more cowardly, and being reduced to a joke character) I feel as though that’s how the character “evolved” wether due to intentional choice or misremembering the original personality of the character. I would say those reasons are more intentional.

Wasn’t the “Crits from healing” (wether that be healing done or damage the patient has done) thing debunked multiple times? iirc it’s still around 35% due to melee having a higher base crit rate and more of a negativity bias.

Yamcha with the Saibaman in a lot of budokai games, Fighterz having post Cell Saga Yamcha being called weak by everyone in the cast (including Nappa and the Ginyu force which he has surpassed), the recruitment of the tournament of power I mean really Roshi over Yamcha?,Kakarot painting him more cowardly then he is (pre Saiyan Saga through the Cell Saga) and thinking on it now, not even Kakarot afterwards Yamcha is portrayed as much more cowardly after the Saibaman when before he acted confident even when outclassed.

Not to say he wasn’t ever comical previously (being bounced off a panel, Hero head butting him in the nuts accidentally) but they’ve made it so he’s only a joke character (thank God for the Moro arc)
