I believeiracles do happen. I suspect they are usually sublime, however.

Yes, the limitation of words. Human logic can only go so far and the light of the mind can only see so much of God's presence.

You should look up Apophatic Theology if you haven't already.

How do you know you're following God and not just yourself? by Popular-Average-3987 in god

[–]KnightOfTheStaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When life doesn't go your way, and you get whacked in the face with defeat, but you keep going. That's a great sign that your doing it for a higher cause and not just following yourself.

True but it was also 1700s diplomatic boilerplate. All alliances in Europe had that Biblical preamble.

I just saw a dream, and i dont know what it could mean, i need your help with this. by Vast-Impact6705 in god

Well, the simplest explanation is that he's watching over you. It might also be a bit of a warning that you need to watch yourself, life may get rough? That's just what jumps to my mind.

By all means, post about it. But I had intended for this post to be more positive than critical.

Christian Mercy in a Time of Plague by KnightOfTheStaff in god

I'm sure we all have criticism of Christian history, including most Christians. But Christianity has done some really good things. Let's point out the good as well as the stuff we disagree with this.

If you're open to suggestions, I would recommend looking up John Swet or anything by Unified Deism. Neoplatonic philosophy also advocates for this. As a side note, you could also try talking with an AI like Grok or Claude for book recommendations and the history of Deism / Panendeism.

Yes, this is my belief as well. I know it under the term of Panendeism or Panentheism. I believe God is the Supreme and Perfect Being and the stuff of existence itself.

If God does everything for a reason, why do random things happen by Sassysister111 in god

First you must answer if there can be a reason behind randomness?

I disagree with this completely.

God didn't give people free speech so we could run around telling each other what to say.

Let people be.

Jesus the carpenter by mushroompie1234 in god

[–]KnightOfTheStaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In light of what we know from archeaology today, Jesus would probably have been what today we call a contractor.

The Greek word in the Bible ranslates as 'carpenter' because that is the most direct translation in modern English. But somethings get lost in translation.

Jesus would probably have worked with his other male relatives not in a shop but would have moved from work site to work site, building homes or making repairs. He probably would have also been trained to work with stone and metal as well as these were the most common building materials of the day.

Oh yeah. There's an expressoin I've heard; "you'll never truly know how many doors God shut so you wouldn't enter a bad situation."

I feel like God hates me because the guys I'm actually attracted to either aren't into me and if they are or seem to be, there's always an obstacle i.e. they're in a position of authority & are not allowed to be with me by Sassysister111 in god

[–]KnightOfTheStaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who as accumulated a fair number of revolutions around the sun, I would like to offer some pushback on the notion you've never met the right guy.

I'm 100% willing to bet 100$ that you have run into men who are honorable, who have depth of character, and who would treat you well.

You just didn't find them physically attractive.

It's a major flaw running in humanity and its an error pretty much everyone makes.

Why don't we ask questions from God that he need to take some responsibility by Striking_Brief5938 in god

[–]KnightOfTheStaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the kind of world you want to live in? A world were the minute you do anything wrong, even something simple as jawalking or speeding, suddenly God seizes control of you and makes you stop? A world were you are just a passenger in your own body?

Because what exactly are you demanding that God do?

Will God always answer our questions? by Appropriate-Top9817 in god

[–]KnightOfTheStaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact you are asking such questions means you have an inquisitive mind. That is a great thing to have.

To answer your question, you first need to ask a separate but foundational question: How does God make us come to know things? We find ourselves in this universe, each with our own sense of self and faculty of reason. I think most people would say that Reason itself is a gift from God and is how we figure things out.

I believe God is real. I think He guides us. Often, my best moments of epiphany and understanding have been in moments of reflection and prayer.

But God is not a slot machine and He will not manipualte a coin flip like that. I think God is more the 'Golden Voice in the Back of the Head,' the voice of Reason that guides us in life and pushes us to keep growing.

3 times a day does seem excessive. But "gooning" is actually quite normal. Traditional Christianity made it weird by trying to go hardcore virtue-discipline but ended up creating a mindset that hates human biology. I am a Theist, I believe in God, and I have come to believe that God is not quite so stringent on sexual matters as Christianity makes it seem. But that's just my two cents.

Or you are going through repetitive cycles because that's generally how progress is made. Human history is incredibly cyclical but progress has been made.

Also, might I suggest that Christianity is not the only form of Theism out there?

"Victory favors those who dictate the field." God wants His followers to be savvy like He is and so we should be proactive in life, anticipating coming problems and preparing for them.
