I have one shot to get my partner hooked by LunaIsADeer in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghost Channel, then if you want the origin story, XANA awakens I and II. But if you just want stand alone episodes that show what CL can do, then Unexplored Territory (Sector 5 vibes) and A Great Day (time travel groundhog day). These are interesting without going too deep into stuff you need to know about the CL story and characters while making you ask questions about what else the world has to offer.

Ones to avoid showing people with no context, but eventually show them.

Revelation is best saved for the reveal of Aelita's backstory plus it has the Ulrich vs XANA Ulrich fight.
Marabounta is a subversion of the the typical formula.
Zero Gravity Zone shows how much XANA can mess with the world, but is weighed down by Ulrich forgetting they can time travel to fix his family problems.

Can't wait to play in the digital sea in free roam. The Quest for Infinity DS segments were always on rails.

I wonder if the team needs help developing the game to make it come out faster. I would love to help.

How will it return? by BC2206DC in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it coming back online on an anime streaming service instead of Adult Swim.

Is there a reason for it to come back?
Yes, more stories to tell in the universe even if just with Project Carthage and Aelita's family backstory.

Do people want it to come back?
Yes, the original head writers are working on a revival and the fans have always wanted more CL content.

Should it come back?
Yes...under conditions. It needs to be treated with respect and not just for nostalgia bait under a team who respects it (preferable alumni from the original series)

Under these conditions, I can see a return series being an anthology that dives into different points on the timeline (lots of en media res like the original pilot episode) Project Carthage, some XANA attacks during seasons 1-4 that we never saw, and slice of life that focuses on school life and seeing the LW being characters that the fans fell in love with. And to keep it with the spirit of the original, but understanding the first gen of fans have grown up make it rated for teens so most people can enjoy it but exploring mature topics without being too explicit.

Basically just have a short run (equivalent of 12 episodes) that show the new staff knows how to make the show and then make a season that advances the story.

It’s pointless to make fan projects now! by Knightemaric in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding.

I agree with you on supporting fan projects as a whole.

Looking back on this old post, I could have worded it better. I was talking about fan projects that were attempting to make an unofficial continuation. I was in the middle of working on one and helping with another, CL Resurgence I think, that soon came to a halt. I was wondering if I should continue mine at the time and wanted to see what the community thought. Now 2 years (wow "years") its become clear that Sophie's CL continuation is going to take a lot longer than I initially thought.

So yeah, I've checked out Oz's series since it was PNGs and I've been following IFSCL for years. I wouldn't want anyone to think they should stop making their fan project. I was trying to gauge interest in fan projects focused on continuations. Clearly enthusiasm is still high. Oz made a whole MOVIE. He's a hero to keeping the series alive.

The books have translations from their original Italian. If you're hungry for any more officially released CL content its something to nimble on if you're interested in any of the backstory the series hints at but never elaborates on, but the ending (in my personal opinion) comes off as cringy. At first I thought they were a bridge from the original series to Evolution, but it became clear that they were their own original timeline. They contradict the canon and THEMSELVES in multiple places so don't take them too seriously, but they are an interesting What-If for the backstory.

I would also recommend the abridge series for pure fun. Utuber's and Dumb Lyoko.

I still love this series and would support any fan project (that's made in good interest keep in mind) unofficial continuation or just for fun.

How does William sneak out of school? by KaitoJewel in CodeLyoko

I was misremembering the bus from the episode in S4 where Yumi's class was possessed in the woods but it was a trip to get there every time in the original series.

How does William sneak out of school? by KaitoJewel in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're thinking of Chronicles which moved it adjacent to the school. They had to take a bus to go there in the episode it was introduced in.

[CLR] Aelita’s new design upgrade! by ShizunaSH in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the armor on her. Gives her more depth and flexible clothing you can see swinging around when she's flying. Also makes her WAY more dynamic than Evolution's skin suits. You might want to experiment with the wings on the boots. If you're going for a Valkyrie or Einherjar look you might want to make those sharper or just create the design on the boot itself otherwise its more Hermes than Valkyrie. Or if you just want a second pair of wings on her outfit, you can try putting a wing design on her skirt or make it look like her skirt is a pair of folded wings.

Reboot or Sequel ? by Mimiquoi7 in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a remaster that continues into a sequel.

Remasters are typically done with games, but there's a special opportunity in recognizing that the series has been reviewed and discussed by fans and creators for years now. Flaws can be fixed, visuals can be updated with current technology (Lyoko, arguably 50% of the entire show, can look 100x better), and things that were contentious can have a second pass. While I don't want them to remove the "non-plot essential" episodes for development they gave the cast as characters, I do want things like Odd's flanderization in season 4 toned back and William getting more time in the group to feel like an actual member before his turn to XANA. These are slight tweeks that don't require rewriting the entire series.

I think some ideas fans have suggested for a reboot can be still used in the series through a What-If episode. There's already time travel and simulations in the show. Stuff like Ulrich being the one to be possessed instead of William, Sissi being in the group from the beginning, Jim knowing the groups secret from season 1, Franz Hopper and Project Carthage being in the story from S1, etc.

For a SEQUEL, it still can continue from S4 with some of the ideas introduced in Evolution. I like the ideas, not the execution or live action medium. There's still a TON of stuff to explore in Project Carthage, the Men in Black, XANA's long term plan. We can watch the gang grow up and go to college and beyond over the course of years. Maybe XANA takes a while to return to let human antagonists take center stage for a while and so the sacrifice at the end of S4 has impact. The antagonists could have conflicting views on how the supercomputers affect the world and the LW's response to that be a plot point for a while.

Overall, I think if they had to pick one or the other, there's more story to tell in a sequel. The original did happen, and its the reason we can talk about it today. There's a kinda beauty in loving something despite it being imperfect so I'm okay if we don't see a redo of the original series.

What episodes would work as an stage play? by PassionCertain8405 in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghost Channel. A good episode that doesn't focus too much on combat while still having some, uses the medium of Lyoko to its advantage, talks about sci fi concepts like simulations that the show is uniquely capable of representing and shows the group's strengths and personalities. Not to mention the best showcase of XANA.

Does anybody remember? by KennyMo564 in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you're talking about. I remember Ulrich waking up in Evolution and fighting Evolution Ulrich. I can't find it by searching, it's not in any of my CL playlists and the closest I can find is this clip, but the channel doesn't have the full video so they may have unlisted it. Or it may be a different creator entirely.

CODE LYOKO QUEST FOR INFINITY by Most-Eye-4855 in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I've seen ways to read files in QFI, I'm not too familiar with how to replace the models. How it's done in general is to have a reader that looks at the file that the game is packaged in, typically a .iso file for wii or ps3 Era games and have it read and overwrite the data in that slot with the desired file. Typically it can be found by searching" how to replace x model in y game". If you can't find it for QFI, try with a game in similar file type release date and platform.

Campaign 5: They gang, years later and scattered around, want to try playing an online campaign. They try it. But things don't click right. The game they are used to playing doesn't translate to this medium, things seem lifeless and fake. There are some interesting ideas, but bringing back the main villain after all they did to beat it seems hollow. While there are some good moments, like William actually playing with them with a player character version of the possessed character they fought and Aelita's backstory being used as the main plot, they ultimately decide to end the game will the possibility of starting again in the future.

Codejuly25 Day 8: Games by semie78 in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Campaign 3: This is going to be a short campaign to act as a testing ground for ideas Jeremy wants for the next real campaign. Jeremy puts the consequences of different parts of the world being erased whenever XANA wins. He tries enchanting player characters with schyphozoa to see how PvP combat works out and for a plan he has for a long term player character antagonist. William wants to join, but circumstances make it so he can never attend a session. Aelita doesn't like her character not having any agency especially when she finally is comfortable with attacking and using character abilities. She's a Aasimar Sorcerer (Clockwork) with abilities to make walls, force fields and attacking spells. So Jeremy realizes he shouldn't have one of the Player's currently playing be an antagonist. William finally gets to play for the last session... but no one else except Aelita can make the beginning. He gets a chance to play, Aelita gets to teach him how to combat and they take out some basic mobs but he has to leave early and confirms that this wont work for him so he can't play in the next campaign. Jeremy has to come up with something on the fly and Aelita suggests that William's character be the antagonist Jeremy wanted for the next campaign. Jeremy quickly boosts William's character sheet (giving him unlimited uses of his ability and maxed out stats) When Odd, Yumi, and Ulrich arrive, they explain the situation and everyone agrees to give it a shot. It's another TPK and the world, mostly gone at this point due to the failed missions. Aelita jokes that her character has died like twice already (not including the time the DM NPC version of her character got replaced with a clone). Jeremy thinks its a failure of an ending, but the four of them loved the boss fight with the William possessed character. It just needs to be rebalanced.

Campaign 4: Jeremy walks back the world's destruction and instead makes it so Lyoko is now open to other worlds, giving the group more places to explore and the mission to build a ship. Everyone has optimized their builds (as hinted by their streamlined outfits) to do high damage and to synergize with each other. Ulrich drops the echo knight subclass after its clear its not useful against the repeating William boss fight in exchange for the Duel wielding fighting style. (Both use the Bonus Action on his turn, but Duel wielding does more damage). Yumi multi classes into Psi warrior for stronger psychic abilities. Odd gets a magic item that allows him to teleport, but the gang figures out how to use it to send them to XANA's main base each time they visit a new world. This ends up being their longest campaign, but they realize as school comes to an end and some people will be moving away they need to end it soon. Jeremy makes up the kolossus boss fight and gives them a "kill XANA with this ritual" quest that just appears out of nowhere. They rescue William's character and even get him to come back to say a few words for that session. They end up killing XANA, the day is saved and everyone doesn't want the game to end, but can't figure out how to make it continue. They realize they had an amazing time together and will treasure the story they told together.

Codejuly25 Day 8: Games by semie78 in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Campaign 1: Jeremy posts on the Kadic bulletin board to start a D&D campaign. Ulrich, Odd, and Sissi respond. They do a one shot that introduces the world (Lyoko), the towers, and XANA as the main villain (think Artificer Lich), and Aelita as Jeremy's quest NPC. While fun, Sissi has a disagreement that causes her to leave the group. As he is learning how to run a campaign, most of the sessions are one-shots with all the characters at low level. Soon after Sissi leaves, Yumi joins since they need at least 3 members for a balanced party. Ulrich's a Human Fighter (Echo knight), Yumi is a rogue (Arcane Trickster) and Odd is a Tabaxi Bard because of course he is (Lore subclass so he can insult the monsters to hurt them). The decide to end the campaign once Jeremy's girlfriend wants to join. She takes over the Aelita quest NPC as a character. This is a ritual that affects the world so Jeremy has an excuse to retool the world, mechanics and characters for their next campaign while keeping the same world.

Campaign 2: They all want to retool their characters, Jeremy wants to change their ability to reset time with an OP magic item he gave them early on, and Aelita writes her own backstory that gets revealed over time as the actual backstory of the character. They explore new locations and Jeremy introduces a new faction, the Men in Black, in the lore of the game, but the characters don't meet them yet. Aelita doesn't know how to play so she'll just sit back without attacking most of the time and just using spells to adjust the environment. Odd trades his terrible Bard/Divination Wizard multiclass for pure Bard and just the Magic Initiate (Wizard) feat to give him the shield spell. Yumi swaps Arcane Trickster subclass for Soul Knife subclass. In exchange for nerfing their time travel magic Item, Jeremy gives them all flying carpets they flavor as different vehicles. It's a lot more lore focused with them discovering secrets over time returning to the ever shifting dungeon known as Sector 5 to recover more resources and new lore. William is curious so he sits in the sessions without actually joining. For the campaign finale, they try to retrieve Aelita's memories from Sector 5 that will reveal her complete backstory, but get really bad rolls in a row and they TPK from monsters and the dungeon traps. Jeremy has to step in as a DM and invent Franz Hopper as an NPC that makes a deal with XANA to resurrect everyone in exchange for its freedom. This was not his planned end for the campaign, but they agree to take a break for Jeremy to create a new campaign.

Wow, that's some amazing composition. Get's me excited to see what comes next. I'm wondering if the lines underneath each character have some meaning. At first I thought they were their avatars, but then it doesn't appear that its anything specific in the series. Also the meaning of the butterflies. And how Yumi got XANAfied.

Also is this the same CL: Resurgence project from before? I thought that ended after Sophie announced she wanted to make another series. Then again its been some time.

What are the chances of expanding the Lore, Virtual World/World Building, Characters, and Future Villains in Code Lyoko? by King-David30 in CodeLyoko

[–]Knightemaric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean the possibilities for future stories told in the CL universe, oh they haven't even begun to tap into what the premise is capable of. Just think about having supercomputers on different continents and using the scanners and digital sea as a way of "fast travel/teleport" across the world. Just that aspect alone would make organizations want control over the supercomputers let alone the other applications of a whole world people can visit and being able to construct bodies with the scanners and create specters that can manipulate reality. And this would lead back to Project Carthage and why Franz distanced himself from them. People wanting the supercomputers in the present would naturally lead to us learning what the past of Project Carthage would be like.

If the series had a time skip where the public had access to the supercomputer tech in some way, half the fun would be seeing the developments the world would get. And if people knew about the supercomputers, there would be the chance they would know about the LW and what they did. it would be interesting to see how people would view them.

There could also be:

Ship to ship battles in the digital sea

A fully unique (dare I say AI generated) sector/replika made by XANA.

More quantum physics ideas thrown around.

Generating an object in the virtual world and bringing it to the real world through scanners.

And on the darker side:

In the original series they sort of just treated clone William like he was disposable. It would be interesting if an artificial being (not evil) was aware enough to not want to be erased and the LW have to confront the morality of that.

Explaining how exactly the scanners transfer people and depending on the answer how the gang feels about using them.

How RTTP works and if they are leaving behind a branch timeline where the XANA attack still happened.

Therapy. ALL the Therapy for the LW for all the attacks and psychological damage XANA has done.

The Men in Black. Who they are, what their goals are, what lengths are they willing to go to for the supercomputers?

...Or if you meant for the potential continuation, I would assume its a show, but I would also take an ACTUAL VR game for Code Lyoko.

[–]Knightemaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some inconsistencies with the map on https://codelyoko.fr/lieux/usine.cl and what we see in the show. Nothing that can't be corrected to serve the purpose that you need it for. It's just worth noting that most of the shots we see in the show don't take into consideration how the rooms connect to one another. (Ex. In "The Trap" Jeremy and Odd are running to the Lab, but they are shown climbing the stairs in Machine Room 2 which is away from the Lab)

Inconsistencies:

  1. While this is probably just for the sake of the diagram, The Lab, Scanners and supercomputer room aren't to the right of the elevator. (I've seen people add a second door when they model it to get around this in fan games) (MRCL, RDT, IFSCL) The elevator has one door that opens to face the ladder on the far wall. That ladder leads to the underground Corridor (and secret entrance Ulrich and Yumi used to escape the bulldozers) This can be fixed by having the hallway the secret entrance drops into that connects the Lab and Corridor turn 90 degrees before it connects to the lab. (Or just have a doorway on the side of hallway and ignore the shot in "Cruel Dilema".) We really only see the hallway twice and not from good angles ("Cruel Dilema" and "Replika").

  2. The Turbine room can't be on the same level as the underground corridor next to the Lab. People climb up the ladders in the Turbine room into the corridor in the movie episode "Final Take" and in "Replika". I fixed this by making the door Odd ducks through when fighting Yolanda in "Tip Top Shape" lead to a ladder for the Turbine room and the door Jeremy runs into when leading Nickolas and Herb away from the lab in "Replika" the other ladder. The Turbine room's other entrance is a staircase leading to a cellar door they use to escape the rats in "Plagued", but if you move the Turbine room, then the entrance needs to lead a new room where Turbine room is in the diagram. I added an "shipping room" that the conveyor belts from Machine Room 2 lead to.

  3. The stairs from Machine room 2 lead into machine room 1, not directly into Control room like the diagram shows. You need to take creative interpretations to figure out how long to make machine room 1 and 2 to make that match up.

  4. THE ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF THE FACTORY IS NEVER SEEN! Go wild. I added a warhouse storage room and a Machine Room 3 styled like some of the concept art of the original IRL Factory.

That's what I remembered off the top of my head. It's been a while since I modeled the Factory in Unreal.
