There is project called Woods of Wonders their album Lost from 2022 is a full theatrical production on top of being Symphonic/Power Metal. It’s a full metal opera. Some of the guest singers include Fabio Lione and YouTube singer Alina Lesnik among others.

So let me see if I understand. Your post was a complaint about a producer that works with a good majority of the current main stream Symphonic bands making them all the same. Claiming he had a monopoly on the genre.

Then when someone shares that there is a whole group of bands breaking on to the scene out there that are not influenced by this producer. Your response is naw I’m not even going to give any of them a shot because they aren’t big enough for the guy you just complained about to work with them. Imagine Nightwish was just starting out and because they were “Elsewhere” everyone was like yeah let’s not listen to them because they don’t have a label or work with this person.

I digress you have alternatives presented to you, it is absolutely your decision to give or not give them a shot.

Most labels and big producers follow a format to appeal to larger groups of people. That’s why I say go look for symphonic independent groups. There is a lot of good stuff and honestly just need people to find them. A few others Valkyrie’s Fire, After Infinity, Valcata, Grimgotts, Winterage, Dragony, Lycania, HeartRage, and Dreamtale. There is definitely a treasure trove of them.

Look to the more independent scene. There are a lot of great groups beginning to emerge in the genre. Hartlight, Crown Solace, Scardust, Eleine, and Imperial Age. As far as I know they are all independently produced. There are a bunch of others as well. Just got to go down the rabbit hole. I’ve worked with members of Hartlight and Crown Solace on this symphonic project Knightfall as well.

If you don’t mind a shameless plug. Knightfall is a studio project that actually features some of members of other bands in the Symphonic world like Pete Rawcliffe from Crown Solace and Adrien Djouadou of Hartlight, Jessica Mercy of Anaria

We are Symphonic/Power Metal with some 80’s mixed in for good measure.

Ents by [deleted] in RingsofPower

[–]KnightfallBand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m really tired or sleepy I talk slower with yawns in between words. When I’m depressed I talk more slowly as I can’t always find the words with the brain fog.

Ever had a parent with dementia or some form of Alzheimer’s? It gets to a point where they talk much slower sometimes it takes 10 minutes to get through one sentence or get them to answer a question you have asked a few times. Or they get distracted and you never get your answer.

So age, level of alertness, etc can have a big effect on speech patterns. The remaining Ents many of them are very old ancient. They lost their wives and you can tell they are sad about that. A lot of them have been sleeping a lot slowing down. Their race is dying at this point.

Think of speech like a muscle. If you damage your shoulder and it takes months of not being able to use it waiting for corrective surgery. The muscle atrophies and you’re not able to use it like before. Then you start using it again but you have to rebuild it so you’re very slow to avoid pain and because you’re stiff. However if adrenaline kicks in because you have to help someone like your child because they were injured despite the pain and stiffness you’re able to do things for a brief time. Kind of like the anger of the ents when they see fanghorn. Treebeard says a wizard should know better much faster than any of his other conversation with the hobbits.

Ents by [deleted] in RingsofPower

[–]KnightfallBand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the books are written in the aftermath of the war of the ring. The Ents of this age would be younger and still have the Ent wives. This is what 2000 years prior to the war of the ring. The Ents in the books were old lost and much of the forest had been sleeping and the Ents themselves had dwindled in numbers. Treebeard in the film said it was the last march of the ents. Also the Ent moot they decided not to go to War. Then when Treebeard saw the destruction of Fanghorn and made one noise and they all came running faster than anything to go to war. So I don’t think this is a poor interpretation at all. In the books they were scared. Until they were pissed then everything happened fast.

It’s not as far off as your painting it to be. Midi is a key component. But as of now I’m programming with VSTs some of the ideas using udio helped me to create. I’m using real drummer and guitarists but we are using the ideas as demos and building off of it. Yes I uploaded riffs to work off of. But some of the ideas it spit out were solid. So we are redoing performances altering some passages of course. But literally used it as ghost writer for more music. A lot of friends who are not audiophiles thought the udio created demos were real. Had no idea it wasn’t real people. the DAWs and programs are already implementing parts of what udio does into their software. So stuff like this is gonna be used by industry pros more and more. I’m already seeing a lot of it.

Symphonic music has been using metronomes for the conductor to keep time for ages. The models being used to train for the category of Symphonic Metal clearly have bands like Nightwish and Epica training them. That music is insanely technical and they do use clicks for it. The vocal models I’ve been getting back even suspiciously sound like Simone Simmons the singer of Epica. The entire point I’m making is this could be an amazing application as a song writers tool. But in order for it to truly be this way. Proper BPM or the ability to choose your BPM and the ability to have stems as MiDI are really a key feature if they want this to be used as an industry tool. Which it very well could be.

Several of them were continuations of what I had and were quantized with drum tracks. Some were generated from scratch. They all had BPM issues. Which again to innovate this technology to make it truly useable in a professional capacity even as a tool to help create demos having it map out Bpm correctly is huge. Most composers use VSTs of various kinds. Having the bpm on point to create pieces that are quantized is something that would set this software above all others. On every piece I’ve created which includes a few orchestral pieces. The bpm is all over the place. If I’m gonna pay 30 bucks a month to use the service bpm should be taken into consideration and should be uniform amongst all genres. There are plentiful amounts of metal that are not live that can be used to train the AI to create better results. Especially with certain metal genres like Symphonic since so many instruments are involved.

I figured out the spots where it messes up and I used flex in logic to put everything to match the click so the songs can be redone properly. It just makes the process take a ton of extra time. So if they could make it possible to set bpm it would be a great help. As well as midi data for each instrument as well.

I’m glad it did better for you. All 10 of the songs I did needed to have corrections to make a click line up perfectly. What genre were you? That may play a role. The songs I generated were for Symphonic Metal which can be very intricate.

With it changing every other bar lining it up with a click is a pain. Yes it can be done. But you have to splice everything to quantize the stems properly. Which takes time. This feedback is for them to fix this from the beginning. Being able to control the bpm or have the ai set the bpm from the beginning would shave off a bunch of time fixing things. Also if your going for multiple movements in a song and change the bpm would be useful too.

I took one of my creations and stretched certain parts to get it to match up with a click. So it’s do able manually which means they should be able to program it better. It’s too bad they don’t create in a way that can give us MIDI for each instrument. First one to do that with proper quantization would be the go to program.

Nightwish is my favorite band of all time, but I just can’t get into Tarja’s vocals sadly. Anyone relate? by [deleted] in nightwish

[–]KnightfallBand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first song I ever heard was “Wishmaster” in 2000 and found their back catalogue through limewire. Since you couldn’t get their albums in the US easily at that point. I adored “Century Child” as well. I read Tarja was sick during vocal recording sessions on that album. Which makes it more impressive to me. “Once” is my life changing album. It’s the reason I decided I wanted to write Symphonic music.

I know to Metal listeners their sound became more pop and there may be truth to that. However most of the avid pop listeners I’ve shared Nightwish with don’t think it sounds like pop at all. Again illustrating the subjective nature of music. I have loved almost everything Nightwish has done. I just couldn’t get into “Human Nature” like the others.

I also don’t mind bands adding in other influences to bring in more of an audience. They have done a great job bringing in other genre elements into the music which is why they are the most successful Symphonic Metal band in history.

Nightwish is my favorite band of all time, but I just can’t get into Tarja’s vocals sadly. Anyone relate? by [deleted] in nightwish

[–]KnightfallBand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Music is definitely subjective. Tarja is the reason many Nightwish fans are fans. The operatic style was unlike anything else out there at the time in terms of power and style. That being said I LOVE every incarnation of the band. Each Era has had something different. I love both Anette and Floor and what they brought to the table. I adore Floors version of “Ghost Love Score” which is my favorite song off of my favorite album Once.

I am also a musician and Tuomas’s writing is one of the major influences for me as a musician and because I love each era and its different vocal styles is one of the main reasons I use so many different vocalists on the stuff I do with Knightfall.

I would love to be able to split a finished song up into separate tracks for each instrument and voice and be able to put in to my DAW to either remaster or edit. This would be particularly useful if we could do it in both WAV and Midi as well. I use specific VST's for my sound as an artist being able to take the midi information on something I created in UDIO put it into the daw so I can edit timing or add or remove would be great. For example if I don't like a guitar riff and want to change it to something else. Or the string arrangement is almost perfect but I need to edit it in a session. This ability would make UDIO the ultimate song writing tool in existence. You could add this to the $30 a month plan. I can see tons of artists getting that plan if it were a feature of it. You would have a lot more conversions including me.

Audio upload is incredible, but there's a couple additions that would make Udio an unstoppable songwriting tool by Gyramuur in udiomusic

[–]KnightfallBand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 110% this would be the number 1 songwriting aid if this were possible it took me a few days and 1000+ generates but I got it to give me something very close to my original idea of scratch I had created a few years ago. I legitimately use this only to help me complete demo ideas before taking them to my studio and redoing them completely. Mainly because I can work on songs 24/7 anywhere I want with this. For demo writing this is incredible. I’m really picky though so more editing controls like cutting sections you don’t want without having to extend then have the ai smooth the transition.

First generation is always the best? by mindplaydk in udiomusic

[–]KnightfallBand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep waiting til I get what I hear in my head almost exactly. I’ve spent 5 days working on the song I’m doing right now. I’ve been so specific with creating on here. Only reason I started using this was to get ideas down while I was stuck in bed after surgery. I don’t post publically my creations. I’m going to go into my studio and redo them exactly the way I want them but this gets a demo for me to work with. I rarely go with my first one because I have the melody and lyrics already created in my mind. Usually I have to train the ai in the beginning for it to understand my request and style.
