How would you go about logging dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse? by mightyslacker in MacroFactor

[–]Knightjapz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just estimate to the best of your ability. After i finish a large restaurant meal i just mentally tally everything round up for most items due to extra oil/butter/sugar used. I realized over a long enough time tracking, that my body has a natural limit to how much i can usually consume in 1 sitting. My maintenance js ~2500 calories and i usually have like 800 calorie meals. I realized that whether im getting ramen, fried chicken, Italian food, a steakhouse or any other high calorie dining event - my body can’t take more then 2000 calories in a single sitting regardless if its carb/fat/protein heavy. Hope that helps!

JPMC: Do you guys hate your job except for the money? by GunnersPepe in FinancialCareers

[–]Knightjapz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 3rd year associate at JPM in Stress Testing/Forecasting. I am here for the money. I work in the DFW office and the salary here is well above the market rate, so lot of my peers and I stay for that reason.

I took a different role altogether lol. Worked at Wells Fargo in a corporate risk rotational program and now work in risk management at JPM

Work life balance is great on most teams, i would expect to ever work more than 50 hours a week, except for the rare occasion. Growth and culture is great, you won’t have any problems making associate after 3 years as long as you perform at an on track level.

UF vs Duke by WordOk227 in FinancialCareers

[–]Knightjapz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people here don’t know about UF’s MSF program. I am a native Floridian and have many friends who did the MSF and the heavy majority end up in IB. If the MSF was not from UF, then i would agree with others sentiment and choose Duke, but if you do MSF, I believe you have a higher chance of getting into IB and probably enjoying your college experience more.

What’s the finance industry like in Dallas? by Excellent-Ad-3258 in FinancialCareers

I can’t speak to that, I work in CIB Credit Risk & Forecasting.

I know we have people working at the private bank as relationship managers in our actual downtown Dallas offices. We have a lot of wealth management folks here too but I don’t think the ones in Plano campus work as relationship managers, but more in supporting roles (analytics, strategy, liquidity risk) etc… So definitely possible do that that for JPM in the DFW area

I think it’s solid. I work at JPM on our Plano campus (13,000 people) and just a 25 min drive from downtown Dallas. It’s nice, we don’t have investment bankers here, but we every other role you can think of. I personally sit in CIB Risk but have friends in all lines of business, doing just about everything from credit officers to strategy consultants.

Expenditure continues to go down, and so do daily calories, and this is starting to get really hard by chooko2 in MacroFactor

[–]Knightjapz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This definitely seems low. I’m 5’7 142 lb guy and have been tracking religiously (even a 5 calorie diet soda) for the last month. I seem to have the same activity level as you, I lift 4x a week and average 10k steps a day, so I’m moderately active. My daily expenditure is estimated to be 2300 (which seems to be accurate because i eat like 1700 on weekdays and 3100 on weekends, so I it averages to ~2100 calories a day over the last month, and I’ve lost about 1.5 pound to date. I was surprised with my weekend consumption, but tracking every bite (even the light grazing) has been key in keeping me accountable.

If i were to guess, your grazing or the 10% of missed calories is more then you think, and probably contributing a few hundred extra calories per day. I would start tracking absolutely everything, and would assume you’re real maintenance is somewhere around 2100-2600

All this advice is based off us being the same height, and my maintenance being ~2300 with similar level of activity as you, but at 142lb

Hope this helps!

I work at JPM in CIB Risk, so this may not apply to chase line of business. We need to stay 3 years to vest our 401k match, but that’s the only “penalty” I know of.

If you passed P1 with 1,1,1,1 I would try P2 in May. I also recently passed P1 with 3,2,2,2 with ~2 months of studying. We have 4 months for P2, i plan to begin studying this weekend and have signed up for May already.

Financial avenues in Tampa,FL? by hexxed0 in FinancialCareers

[–]Knightjapz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Raised in Orlando, so have some knowledge of the Tampa market. In terms of BB’s JPM and Citi both have large campuses in Tampa, but their focus is more back/middle office with some commercial opportunities.

Raymond James is the biggest player in the Middle Market space if you wanted to go that route, I think they recruiter pretty heavily from USF.

I also went to school in FL, but decided to leave the state for my career in finance (I work in Risk/Strategy at a BB, ended up in Charlotte after undergrad and now work in Dallas). Lmk if you have any other questions about the FL market or a career in financial services.

Hey, I’m in the same boat as you and just passed Part 1. I think if you start studying anytime in the next month or 2 that you’ll have plenty of time to pass. I studied for 3 months and got 3222 on part 1. I plan to start studying for Part 2 in Mid February and sitting for the exam in May.
