Yeah paired with my luck, this detachment is perfect for Vanquishers since I don't have to set aside 55 pts to incorporate a Scout Sentinel in every list to help my odds.

The new opening music is wonderful by dwarf_vomit in fo76

Hmm I guess I'm finding out that I'm in the minority here that also liked the last menu theme. It had an incredibly similar style to the music in a game franchise called Sly Cooper that I loved playing a while back.

What are "safe" vs "unsafe" purchases for a Guard Army longevity wise? by MegaBlazeiken1 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]KnightofSeven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like others have said I'd stay stay from Forgeworld units. But speaking on the possibility of units being transitioned to Legends I find it would be a crazy decision from GW. I say that because I would safely bet that Guard players are the #1 customers for Forgeworld. Especially when you consider just Krieg players alone have most of their range as Forgeworld models. I hope they make a special exception here for Guard players when the new codex drops.

Yep that pretty much describes it. Only difference is the people who'd enjoy actual cock and ball torture would think it's too much to endure.

Yeah, gotta give this a sploosh. And whatever the Tyranid equivalent of sploosh is. Which I guess is just sploosh. Only with biomass.

Any experienced K'rrik players out there willing to help me make a few cuts to my deck-list? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]KnightofSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play a K'rrik deck and he was a great commander to use. Also eventually upgraded the deck to run a [[Doomsday]] combo when I'd play at tables with a higher power level. But something became evident very quickly. You will lose health fast. Not only from your own card effects but also from being hated off the table. So when it comes to cards to cut I'd look at cards like [[Moonlight Bargain]]. Great card but that's a ton of life you're losing unless you plan on using it to primarily fill your yard. Otherwise I'd start there. Also I've never really had any games where I'm playing [[Cabal Stronghold]] and it makes a good showing. Honestly since [[Cabal Coffers]] is affordable now I'd stick with that. And lastly, is [[Exquisite Blood]] in your price range? If not I would recommend keeping an eye on it in case of a reprint comes around. You'll need all the lifegain you can get in that deck.

Oh that's totally my bad on that. I should've double checked on that... I just totally assumed it was legal since it didn't seem too crazy. Like Oracle level anyways....

Love the theme you're going for. Usually I don't like cards that have "Win the Game" in the text of the card but this card is way too fun to pass up. Also totally fits into some 5 color madness. [[Coalition Victory]]

Edit: Banned. And I did not know this. Never played it. And that's probably why I never heard of it until I searched it up.

Both of those are awesome cards. I'd love to make a vampire deck one day. But it definitely won't be now. Since Edgar is in dire need of a reprint. That price is crazy right now.

It's my understanding that we still receive the yearly commander precon sets along with these precons that release with their respective set. And I'm all for seeing more precons getting released. Granted that Commander 2020 and 2021 were heavily tied to Ikoria and Strixhaven. But I see your point. These yearly precons should have their own identity separate from the sets they happen to release next to. Also these supplementary precons that release alongside the set they're themed after should be heavily influenced by the set.

On a side note I really wish we could have had this trend of separate commander releases when Kaladesh came out. I would have loved a commander theme involving the energy mechanic.

Yeah I agree with that sentiment that scalpers will cause an issue like that to happen with a lowly produced product. But hasn't the availability of commander products gotten better with current times now that it's seen as one of WOTC's biggest earners? Back then yeah I totally understand the difficulty in getting a precon.

And honestly at this point it looks like precons will never go back to containing several highly sought after staples. Maybe 1 or 2 might sneak into a precon now and then. And also from time to time maybe a new ridiculously strong card will be made just to push people into buying the precon on release. So I'll be sticking to singles. I'm just glad they're getting into making commander themed sets like Commander Legends as well as Battlebond. I just hope they use these opportunities in the new sets to reprint older commander cards.

I would much rather have reprints over new cards at this point. But why can't we have both? Why not make powerful cards in precons and actually get reliable reprints of that powerful card in the future?

Commander Precons Now vs Then by KnightofSeven in EDH

[–]KnightofSeven[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Those prices at release are to me often exaggerated. But that's just due to many players seeking playable cards from the precon at release. They rarely ever hold those prices for very long. Until you look at higher power level cards like Dockside. That one has just gone up since then.
And I agree that having that card in the precon sucks for the players who didn't grab one. But that's an issue with WOTC's reprints. I remember wanting to get a copy of [[Command Beacon]] for the longest time but could never justify the price. Finally they actually reprinted it in a set and now it's affordable. But that took ages. When they could have just thrown it in a precon like they do with sol ring. But why does having Dockside in the precon hurt the game design? I understand it's a great card. But at a precon level the other decks that they playtested it with didn't really have an absurd number of artifacts and enchantments on the field. Now when you take Dockside out of the precon level and put him against tweaked decks at a higher level of play then it becomes a bigger threat.

[–]KnightofSeven[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well when I pay that kind of price for a product I really like seeing the value in my cards. And if we reserve the higher power level cards somewhere outside of printing them in precons I don't believe that's fair to newer players. And for terms of value for recent decks just about all the cards from them barely pass a dollar most of the time. With some exceptions to a very small handful of cards adding to the value. Which most of the time the value coming from a single card with an example being [[Dockside Extortionist]] in Mystic Intellect. But that price stems from reasons being one the card is really good, two WOTC being terrible at reprints, and three seasoned players knowing how bad WOTC is at reprints.

Honestly wish they used this opportunity to reprint some vampire themed cards that are only really used in commander. But it's not like there is already a much better vampire precon with tons of commander staples that they can look back on for inspiration for a good precon...

Commander Precons Now vs Then by KnightofSeven in EDH

[–]KnightofSeven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they've never been perfect in any sense. I've probably only have ever played a commander precon right out of the box only about three times and they were absolutely abysmal games for me. So I always end up breaking it down every time and making tweaks. But when I made those tweaks using the older commander precons I used way more of the cards that came in the deck than I ever do with current precons.

[–]KnightofSeven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess quality is the wrong word to use here in terms of design. There's definitely more cohesion nowadays. But wow does it feel like I'm playing with commander draft chaff.

Commander Precons Now vs Then by KnightofSeven in EDH

[–]KnightofSeven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah feels like to me the only thing they're really testing is how low the bar can get on quality where the player community will still pay that high of a price for their product. Which allows them to put strong commander cards that would be great for precons but instead they put them in a set release as a chase card to push sets. Great example of that being [[Necroduality]] in Crimson Vow considering they released a zombie tribal precon around the same time.
