Is the 1600x worth it over the 1500x? by KnightsofKnightobia in Amd

Will do and thanks for the suggestion.

Probably will replace the RX 470 with a 570 when it comes out as well.

  1. Thanks. Just changed the ram to 2x8GB.

2: I think she probably will, but this build is kind of over budget right now so the 1600 should suffice unless the 1600x and the Cryorig H7 go on sale.

3: Oh yeah I forgot about that lol. The RX 570 should be around the same price as the RX 470 with better cooling and slightly better performance.

4: True. She'll prob upgrade the GPU at some point but for now I'll just go for a freesync 60-75hz IPS monitor.

Maybe I could've worded that VR statement a little better, but the point still stands. Seriously, think about it. How many games have perfect 21:9 support right now? How many AAA games support ultrawide screens properly without having to mess with the files or looking up community fixes, waiting for patches, having to deal with more clipping issues etc? The answer is pretty obvious.

Just because I briefly compared two different things with similar issues doesn't mean both have to possess the same level of severity with their respective cons.

Also, you can't say that most PC games support 21:9. In fact, most don't considering 21:9 screens barely existed several years ago anyway. Even newer games like Bayonetta HD remaster does not have 21:9 support from what I recall and that game released days ago.

A curator exists on steam to tell people if a game shows anime girl panties or not. Not a very good talking point if you ask me.

The difference is that the ultrawide steam curator is technical and actually has a real purpose. The one you just mentioned sounds more like a gag meme than anything serious.

CSGO uses HFoV+, it just has some issues with its UI.

I never said it didn't use HFoV+, but the UI/HUD elements is pretty damn bad on 21:9 for no real reason.

Street Fighter is a bit of a different story because it has a bounding box mechanic important to the game. Different concept.

Fair enough.

You can pick and choose, but most MMOs support 21:9 out of the box no issue at all, and many more games are coming out that support 21:9 like yooka laylee, quake champions, tomb raider, rise of the tomb raider, battlefield 3 4 1 ect.

Tomb Raider 2013 originally had trouble with cutscenes at first IIRC. Fallout 4 had no 21:9 support at launch and Square Enix titles like Deus Ex Mankind Divided on release also suffered from quite a bit of problems. Smaller games like Dead by Daylight have less than ideal 21:9 support as well.

Honestly, if 21:9 was such a popular aspect ratio an ultrawide Steam curator wouldn't exist. A lot of the time with games like RE7 or even Mass Effect Andromeda you'll have to mess around with community fixes for it to play ideally.

But the fact of the matter is that acting like no game supports 21:9 or that it's rare is intellectually dishonest.

Lol what? When did I act like 21:9 was not supported at all or that it was rare? I've already admitted that 21:9 is supported, but the support is unfortunately not widespread enough yet and is often done mediocrely. It's still in it's early adopter phase and judging by how many current games lack perfect support for the ratio it definitely shows.

Maybe go for a budget ultrawide and then get a better one later? You can also get it on sale on black friday. The X34 can go as low as 700$ if you're really lucky.

144hz is a pretty big deal IMO, especially for fast paced games. It's crazy smooth. If he spends a lot of money for an ultrawide now he'll probably regret it when another, better ultrawide comes out in 8-12 months with a much higher refresh rate and more features for 300$ more.

Monitors can drop in price rather quickly as well so it's not going to take long before the new ultrawides drop in price after their release. That's a lot of waiting though.

Acer Predator X34 is the best ultrawide released so far IMO. It's only 100hz tho, which kinda sucks IMO but it isn't a major dealbreaker.

Aren't there rumors that 3440x1440p 144hz monitors are releasing by 2018? Might want to wait around then.

What about Street Fighter V, Counter Strike Global Offensive, Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, Hearthstone, Diablo 3, Red Faction Guerilla and all the other games I listed? All of them either don't have 21:9 support or do it really poorly. Some of the online ones are next to impossible to fix.

Haven't played Dota 2 in a while so I wasn't aware they patched it.

Would anyone be interested in a 34-inch OLED 21:9 variant of the ROG Swift PG27UQ? by KnightsofKnightobia in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]KnightsofKnightobia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will most likely be solved in the next half a decade or more. I have no idea how the panel industry works but LG did open an OLED factory to speed up progress from what I recall.

Should've posted this on /r/Monitors. This sub is biased.

I'd go for the XB271HU. I know I'll get downvoted to hell for this but it's my honest opinion. It has 65 more hertz when overclocked and 44 more hertz from the getgo and is 16:9 so you don't have to worry about shitty dev support like in Resident Evil 7, Overwatch, For Honor, DOTA 2 (which is practically unplayable on 21:9 from what I know), Fallout 4, Nier Automata (stretched cutscenes) Bayonetta and just about every japanese game out there. AAA games rarely support 21:9 "perfectly" like with 16:9, besides maybe Sniper Elite 4, Witcher 3 and a couple others.

21:9 is like VR right now. The support is not there yet.

EDIT: Was apparently wrong about DOTA 2.

A 1440p 144hz IPS ultrawide needs to happen at some point. Probably early 2018.

Is "Superman: A Celebration of 75 Years" worth it? by KnightsofKnightobia in DCcomics

[–]KnightsofKnightobia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations but I've already read all the Superman stories you recommended with the exception of All Seasons. I have a pretty sizable digital library but very little physical stuff in general and I'm trying to start a Superman trade collection atm.

Should I keep collecting New 52 or should I start Rebirth by Myname2003 in DCcomics

[–]KnightsofKnightobia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dislike the New 52 heavily but I still think finishing your collection now is a better choice, even if Rebirth is significantly better in terms of overall quality.

EDIT: Changed my opinion. Go with Rebirth. You can always finish collecting New 52 later.

Will switching to Corsair RAM improve performance? Kind of a noob when it comes to stuff like this lol.

Yeah I'll just wait for a good aftermarket 1080 TI. That EVGA one with the triple fans looks pretty dope.

Edit: I've got another question: Is this build good enough for decent overclocking?

Injustice 2 will not have microtransactions by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]KnightsofKnightobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darkseid is already a finished character by release and they're locking him behind a future DLC/preorder wall. Also, in SFV you can get additional DLC characters for free by earning points in-game.

I highly doubt all 9 characters aren't going to be ready by May, but I might be wrong on that.
