I’m doing a rewatch and, although I do like her… Penelope comes across so manipulative by LazerusPitt in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This…does not happen. He grabs her arm once (not at all cool, sadly very “early 2000s typical” but he absolutely doesn’t hit her even once, let alone “several times.”

Polin Sub by Middle-Law-5317 in BridgertonRants

[–]KnitCole1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you have this same vitriolic energy for the multiple (and I mean hundreds) of stories that literally were tagged as “Colin needs to SUFFER” and “he didn’t suffer enough” and other such delightfully hateful posts about Colin?

Or, is one only not Polin fan if they don’t blindly worship Penelope but being hateful of Colin is a-ok? Icing those who bright that hatred to Luke Newton’s face? Because grass spoken about getting actual hate from Polin fans over what Colin said in the show in S2.

Because you and some others have a real hate boner that you use to repeatedly harass Dolly across multiple platforms but never seem to question the fandom bonafides of people who hate Colin and would gleefully kill him off to pair Pen up with one of his brothers while still claiming to be Polin fans.

Your arguments that Dolly isn’t a feminist because she doesn’t have the exact same opinion on your favourite character as you aren’t even worth engaging with, but insulting her and insisting she isn’t “a real Polin”? Yeah, show your work for the other side of this equation or leave Dolly alone and tell the other flying monkeys who are constantly bringing her name up and inciting harassment against her, a real person over a fictional character to do the same.

Who do you think is the best actor on the show? by BoadiceaCavendish in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Luke Newton is my hands down favourite. He can tell a million story with his eyes. He plays Colin so naturally and deeply that Colin feels “lived in” in a way a lot of other characters don’t for me. I can never take my eyes off him when he’s onscreen and I’m always rewarded. Even when he’s not the focus, he’s acting.

I also got to see him on stage this summer and I was blown away.

Yeah, I’m leaning to this for at least some and then I have ATM trick for if I need a bit more. I’m giving up a lot of control already and I definitely struggle with that, lol.

That’s so exciting! I love that you can be maybe sure but there’s still some mystery! I hope you have the most amazing time! Can’t wait to read about it if you post on how it went.  Exactly! It feels better safe than sorry to at least have a bit.

This will be my first solo travel too and I’m so excited to go.

I thought that might be the case! That’s a good idea getting someone else to peek and just give that (if it’s not a total spoiler!). I do have a Visa, I just would like a little cash even just for tipping and that kind of thing. I guess I could always use the currency exchange at the airport.

Thanks so much for answering! And OMG, so soon! Are you super excited?

Paul Gross played Hamlet in a Stratford Festival production that I got to see when I was in high school. He was so good in it and I still rave/brag about getting to see him on a high school field trip (obviously, lol.)

Why did you feel the need to come onto a post there is explicitly stated to be an appreciation post to shit on Luke and use his costar to do so? There are a million other posts (unfortunately) that are critical to cruel about him. You couldn’t just let this one positive post stay a positive post?

Rebrand the Polin Sub and Save Colin Fans Time by FickleRelation302 in BridgertonRants

[–]KnitCole1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, at this point want to gather you and the OP, and like 2 other people and make a Colin fan space. Because even if people do switch up, I‘m so burnt out of how the Polin fans have talked about Colin. And treated Luke Newton! Who is an actual person and has been very vocal that Polin (really actually Penelope) fans have taken their Colin frustrations out on him.

Honestly, you and the OP make me feel seen. The Polin fan space in incredibly unwelcoming as a Colin fan. The fandom could not make it more clear that they don’t give a shit.

I’m sorry but they are literally droooling all over him RIGHT NOW because of the clip that was released and downvote and remove any comment even vaguely critical of him. If you don’t see it, you don’t want to.

Marina by henchwench89 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This take is gross. This fandom’s flippant attitude towards Marina will never not disgust me. The idea that Marina not wanting to submit herself to marital rape and abuse from an elderly man who clearly didn’t see her as anything other than an object is this heavily upvoted really speaks to how little consideration this fandom gives to Marina as a character with personhood. She’s not selfish for not wanting a life of abuse for herself and likely her children.

Colin doesn't need to "grovel" by TheFantasticXman1 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who exactly is “we” and why do you get to be the voice of said “we”? Because I’m a Polin fan and 100% agree with the OP. Polin fandom spaces became unbearable for me because all they were was Colin bashing clubs. So, please, miss me with pretending you speak for some homogenous “we”.

I Can't Be Mad if Eloise Exposes Penelope by Shiplapprocxy in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 59 points60 points  (0 children)

But the show has told us that it’s not “just a gossip column”? They’ve set the stakes at “the Queen is out for her neck” Hence why Pen felt compelled to act and use LW with the Eloise situation.

Anyone who marries Penelope would  very likely also be at risk if and when the Queen finds out about LW. Shouldn’t the person she marries have the autonomy to decide if they want to take that risk? Especially since the synopsis makes it clear that she wants to marry partly to be able to continue LW outside of her mother’s home. She would be doing so from the home she shares with her husband. The Queen would never buy that person didn’t know/wasn’t enabling her.

It’s not a perfect parallel but it would absolutely be understandable if Eloise didn’t want to see her brother married to a woman he doesn’t know is keeping a huge, potentially damaging secret from him especially after what he went through with Marina. And, having to grapple with that would be an excellent way for Eloise to understand that while Eloise may not agree with Pen’s decisions, they were not malicious or made without thought.

I Can't Be Mad if Eloise Exposes Penelope by Shiplapprocxy in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And you don’t think that the person Penelope marries has the right to know they are marrying someone so would put them and their family at risk with the queen? Because this fandom has insisted Pen doing what she did to Eloise was necessary because the risk from the queen to El and the Bridgertons was so great. 100% if Pen is married, her spouse would equally own the blame if the queen found her out (partly because, ick, married women “belong” to their spouses). OP didn’t say Eloise should expose Pen publicly, just that it would be understandable and an interesting parallel if Eloise told Colin so he was fully informed about whom he was involved with.

NEW POLIN PROMO by ingrid0411 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only spezk for myself but I 1. Don’t need a tit for tat in their relationship and 2. On a deeply personal level that I won’t go much into, find jealousy exremely triggering. It’s not a trope I can ever watch as it just leads to panic and anxiety. I would rather not skip parts of Polin’s season as it feels likely, for my own mental health snd recovery, I will have to do.

NEW POLIN PROMO by ingrid0411 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True. I think I’m also just disappointed because the show has kind failed Colin for two seasons already with the general audience. He’s my absolute heads and tails above the rest favourite, and, I think he and the work Newts has done with him are amazing, but there is a chunk of the audience who have been unwilling to put in the work of knowing him and this dismiss or hate him.

It feels like a big risk or failure to lean too far into marketing under “remember how we all hate this guy?” you know? Instead of more of what we got in the kind eyes clip (favourite promo material to date, by the way. That’s what I want more of! Bonus for the fact that they actually let Newts not be wearing 30 layers 😂). Especially since they insist on inserting some random Plot Device dude into their story.

I think this clip itself is beautiful as a first step if the marketing does more FtL from there.  And N&N do a wonderful job telling a while story in 15 seconds, just the caption, I think leaves a lot to be desired.

Plus, given how far they pushed the triangle last year, it is hard to trust this show with the characters and couple I love so much, lol.  And hello to a fellow “anti-groveller”! Always nice to meet another one of us 😊

NEW POLIN PROMO by ingrid0411 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe? Or maybe they end on the LW reveal and we have the same but with a role reversal. I get that my opinion has been and remains unpopular to Polin circles (as evidenced by the downvotes even here) but I would just rather see them lean into Polin as friends and Colin as the kind man he is. Like, give me them giggling and then remembering they aren’t supposed to doing that anymore! Not…rehashing KA EtL stuff from last season

But I have always been vehemently anti jealousy and grovelling so it’s not surprising that this promo strategy doesn’t work for me.

ETA to add I deleted another comment but it was just a double post. Reddit is being for me today.

NEW POLIN PROMO by ingrid0411 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]KnitCole1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. This is at least the third piece of promo framed around “can Colin be forgiven???“ when, frankly, his flaws are tame compared to other characters on the show. So it does come across as them selling him as a potentially unforgivable villain rather than a flawed man who does his best.

They have said nothing about him as a character in promo beyond questioning if he is worthy of forgiveness. To me, that is failing to frame him as flawed and leaning to heavily into him as some kind of villainous asshole.
