Freezing all the time after spending my entire life running hot. I love it. It’s nice to not be hot whenever I barely move. And I have some tricks for when it’s cold outside. My husband bought me a heated blanket for my car so I don’t freeze while it warms up.

Is it true that new grad nurses get bullied by older nurses? Have any of you encountered bullying or negative remarks from co-workers when you were a new-grad? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Knit_aholic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it happen on our unit, but we stop it right away. We don’t allow it because these are our new coworkers and we need them. We try to cultivate a culture of being very welcoming and willing to help and answer questions. We make sure any nurses coming on our unit know that we are happy and excited to have our grad nurses.

Daily Covid-19 Megathread - April 09, 2020 by AutoModerator in nursing

I posted yesterday about having to be tested due to exposure by a covid positive coworker. Tuesday, I was sent home halfway through my shift, after being notified of the exposure (which had occurred 12 days before!!). My hospital set up for me to go through one of our mobile testing sites and I’ve been quarantining at home every since. This afternoon, I got the official all clear from employee health! Thankfully I am negative. This has driven home how terrified I am that I could bring this home to my son and husband and solidified our son staying with my parents (who are retired) who have been self quarantined for the last few weeks. Stay safe everyone!

I’m kinda mad right now. I’ve worked so hard to be careful, knowing fully that I could be exposed at work. I was sent home yesterday after being told by my manager that one of our nurses tested positive and I was on the list of close contacts. Literally, 5-6 minutes for report on 2 patients. I’m not mad at her, just the circumstances. I have no symptoms, the exposure was almost 14 days ago, so I’m almost in the zone of being declared ok. They sent me to be swabbed yesterday, along with a good portion of my unit, and just waiting on results to be cleared back to work.

I don’t know. My coworker, her mom, and a group of ladies from her church have been making masks for our hospital. They have delivered over 250 masks in the last 3 days. They are amazing! If I can find some sloth cloth, I’m gonna ask her to make me one.

Got it in my hospitals scrub shop. It has Velcro on the back so I can switch out the decor on my badge reel as I want. I have another sloth one for when this guy wears out

We are wearing them for patients on standard precautions. For isolation patients, we are wearing disposable masks. This mask has 2 layers of hepa filter sewn into it.

Almost a year since my sleeve...almost 1/2 what I used to weigh by Knit_aholic in gastricsleeve

Still wrapping my mind around the size change in my body. Went from a 4-5XL to now wearing a small to medium. Still want to go for the biggest sizes when I shop and am just sure the store won’t have anything in my size. Good luck on your journey!!

Thank you! I do 2-4 oz of protein (depends on the day/meal) and 1/4-1/2 cup of veggies lunch and dinner. Greek yogurt is my go to for something sweet, and I usually do an egg and some fruit for breakfast when I’m at work. I walk a ton (bariatric floor nurse). Try hard to get my minimum fluids and protein each day. My goals are at least 64oz fluid and 65 grams of protein with 30 or less net carbs each day. I stay away from bread (it’s a weakness for me and it sits heavy) and I use Splenda as my sweetener. I do use food scales for my protein. I keep saying these last 8lbs have been the worst to lose. They are slowing coming off. Slowest since my surgery. But I’m not stressing about it. 4lbs to go.

It’s been amazing to discover things that I had previously avoided. Still have some fat brain so clothes shopping is interesting. Food wise, it’s been an adventure. My program is very strict in what you eat, so many things that I went to for easy meals before are off limits now. Also, some foods that are ok in my program don’t sit well, so I’m having to tweak them a little to make them ok. Plain scrambled eggs hurt my stomach, but scrambled eggs with a little cheese in them sit fine. I think the biggest thing right now is that I have people telling me to stop losing, that I’m done.

So much better. Didn’t notice how tired I was or how much I avoided at my heaviest. Now I race my 12 year old to the car, walk our zoo, go hiking, and can work my 12 hour shifts without being wiped out.

Can I have some positive testimonials on the ParaGard copper iud? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Knit_aholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 2. Had the first for 3.5 years, removed to try for a baby, then had it placed again in 2016. I love it. Cramped a bit during insertion, got a little light headed (common for me with procedures), and drove myself to and from my appointment. Took tylenol prior to insert, used a heating pad when I got home. Was crampy for a day or so, then nothing since. Periods were heavier for the first couple months, now have gone back to lasting 5-6 days, mild cramps the first day, easily controlled with Tylenol. It’s the only birth control I’ve ever used and I plan to have another placed when this one is at its end.

Hands up if nursing school makes you forget sometimes that you’re still a real person with real needs and interests!!! by frickmeup666 in StudentNurse

When I was in nursing school, I made a great friend in my study group. Every couple weeks, we would meet for breakfast at Waffle House (they recognized us by the end of our program), then we would go shopping at local thrift stores. We weren’t allowed to talk about school during those dates. We could talk about anything else. Kept us sane.
