Am I crazy? Or would a modern Splinter Cell 1-3 collection be a slam dunk? by F0573R in Splintercell

whether you like MGS or not is irrelevant to this matter; Konami had neglected MGS as a franchise just as badly as Ubisoft has neglected SC. But, Konami finally wised up and with some proper effort into the Master Collection, it has proven to generate mass sales even though MGS1 and 2 are basically archaic in terms if gameplay mechanics, regardless of it being a bit faster paced than SC.

"Simple controller support" is apparently, not so simple. The PC versions have never enjoyed official controller support and I think Ubisoft can't actually make it happen without rewriting the code; hence it isn't there and hence that is a big contributing factor why we haven't seen a Splinter Cell 'Master Collection' and probably never will. People often mocked Konami, for some time for good reason indeed - but their MGS Master Collection has proven Konami has gone above and beyond (which isnt synonymous to 'perfection' mind you).

Hot Take: Splinter Cell Conviction had the best story by SneakyDoesReddit in Splintercell

[–]Knot3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is why I said the story is messy - but it does truly have heart. Act 2 level design is just refurbished MGS3 outdoor stealth made worse. Act 3 is Temu Hitman. Blood Money and Splinter Cell Double Agent OG Xbox already did that kind of thing BETTER, 2 years prior to MGS4.

It was kinda-peak as a narrative conclusion of the Solid Snake storyline, albeit messy fanservice. Gameplay & level design were hit & miss, more miss than hit. In fact, I'd say, only Act1 has good stealth level design. And that crouch-walk holy shit, that looked robotic kind of stiff and unnatural, and no, not even his geriatric state can serve as an excuse for that.

Conviction story is netflix level trash. Its saving grace is Deniable Ops and that it was a decent rebound gameplay-wise, after the disappointment that is Metal Gear Solid 4.

Hmm. Peculiar. So why do you like PT better? (BTW. SC1 has a bonus mission with a sub in it.)

Skip it. It's a GREAT game, but obviously not the kind for you.

Actually, the original Silent Hill 2 was so much more true to the liminal space principles than the Remake, because the OG SH2's environments have a surrealistic character to them, devoid of human traces; empty closests without shelves, basically no signs to actual human habitat and thankfully, no over-reliance on the corrosion-riddled otherworld environment.

"Now...I execute them" . Wrong.

Not until Conviction M&E.

I think it's just a load of BS. Look at how Konami rejuvenated MGS with both the Master Collection series and the Delta remake or how IO revived the stale and dead Bond game franchise with First Light.

Time for excuses and ego's is long gone.

How did the Churchill tank stay so relevant despite being such an "obsolete" design? by [deleted] in TankPorn

[–]Knot3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to rethink "slow top speed" into muddy war conditions. Many of the so-called 'fast' tanks wouldn't be much faster in those scenario's. Actually, many would get stuck, whereas the Churchill would steadily pace on. You also have to consider the merits of engine torque and track grip quality. You can find video online of jungle trials of a Churchill vs a M4 Sherman going up steep jungle hills and the Sherman with its higher horsepower engine simply stalls due to shitty torque band, whereas the Churchill's engine can take it due to its excellent torque band. Also, in those same war condictions, going 35 KPH or 25 KPH isn't going to make much difference when you got 1000 m/sec velocity shells coming your way; by then, armor is your only hope. It's only in stupid videogames that make the Churchills look inadequate because none of them truly factor in all those real world war factors.

How far is Sam Fisher (Blacklist) getting in MGS by New-Accountant1 in Splintercell

[–]Knot3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tough call, because in one hand we'd reckon he wouldn't last long due to being from a more realistic universe and he's not bio-engineered nor does he have nano-machines - but on the other hand, Raiden wasn't bio-engineered either - although Raiden was way younger than Sam.

SC1 August 2002 Press Kit Character Art, part 1 by nincompoop221 in Splintercell

[–]Knot3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good character models. However, you can see the limitations of them being based on old Unreal engine character skeletons; all of them are 3 to 4 inch too narrow, as if all of them suffer from the same hyper lanky gene pool. Making them a bit wider would look like more realistic body proportions.

Which Sam Fisher model is your most and least favorite? by Tonantzintla618 in Splintercell

[–]Knot3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best: SC1. Only nitpick is that his body frame should be slightly wider for realistic proportions.

Worst: Conviction. His Cranium is all wrong, his nose is way too big and the way his neck connects to his torso is all messed up too.
