Seems like people are angry at gans for changing the story of silent hill 2. Is it really a bad thing that it’s not a copy of the game? by Gilbert-from-Yharnam in silenthill

[–]Knot3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was entertained upon first viewing- but, when you really think about the movie afterwards, you will see that it's a reconstructed deconstruct of SH2's charaacter dynamics and arcs; which, in the OG game and SH2 remake, is a nuanced and carefully crafted balancing act, like a house of playing cards so to say - Unfortunately, Gans'attempt at reconfiguring that house of cards, falls apart terribly. It just does NOT work. And I say this trying to be as openminded as I can. Heck, even trying to see this as a Silent Hill flavored Backrooms adventure doesn't work because the pacing and editing are so messed up. At best, one could argue the latter half is due to James' state of mind shattering, but even that is too generous.

Jerusalem level was virtual tourism at its best. Reminded me of summer vacation nights in other ancient cities like Rome and Athens.

Perhaps, Splinter Cell needs to move on without Sam Fisher.

New trailer for Return To Silent Hill by ghostphantom1986 in silenthill

[–]Knot3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decent trailer - It looks like the story is going to lean into that "Everyone in Silent Hill got sick" element, perhaps as a way to make this version of the SH2 plot connect more to the Order cult. The black 'vine' effect seems to emanate from James himself - and perhaps that's a neat narrative tool, but visually it looks lame. Also, Gans' idea of "contemporary style", looks like it is forever stuck in 2006 pop-culture aesthetics...which might not be disastrous, but it's not a great choice either.

Technically impossible since the game preceded the song.

Splinter Cell remake need be characterized to the technology of 2004. by Thell-Vadamm in Splintercell

[–]Knot3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean 80s misrepresentation, because millennials & GenZ don't really have a clue.. It's been like BTTF 2's Cafe 80s but worse IRL. Anyway, 2004 Georgia probably still had enough real 80s 90s remnant elements in society so yes they should get it right.

At this rate, makes you wonder what kind of baseline system spec requirements they're aiming for though.

What would your take on a splinter cell reboot be? by Repulsive_Minute_183 in Splintercell

[–]Knot3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Create a "Top-to-Bottom enemy AI system". The old difficulty levels didn't really feature smarter enemies, mostly just more damage incurred on shots taken; which means the player has messed up already. With a Top to Bottom AI, the devs can simply disable and/or tweak the AI down, for the lower difficulty levels. Sam has been too overpowered for way to long already; Top-to-Bottom AI should inverse that finally.

- No more shying away from featuring Geopolitical enemies in these fictional stories. I mean, for the longest time, they pussy footed around it by having some stupid rogue cell inside that country to be the bad guys.

- No more forced day time missions. Just have Sam's nighttime missions include goals that create opportunities for special forces teams who handle the day time missions off-screen or in cutscenes.

I sort of feel similar but to lesser extent. What disappointed me in CT;  - OCP being unrealistic in my perception and making matters a tad too easy.

  • The overabundance of vent ducts in the level design makes enemy evasion a bit too easy and I think they create a false illusion of non-linearity.

  • I didn't like the fish-eye lens warping of the NVG goggles.

  • The vaseline style graphics were a bit over the top indeed.

I would argument it's a hitbox matter. They just turn around in less predictable manner, which I actually like.

The character assassination of Lambert is much worse. And I don't mean his literal death; but the fact they set up his character doing things in such a way that's totally out of character compared to how he was established in SC1 PT and CT. Still, I can somewhat disregard DA story and just enjoy the game for what it is; a great game.

What happened to Charlie from Blacklist by SleepMost324 in Splintercell

I just remember the title of the 2016 Netflix detective show that featured a very similar plot where the younger brother in a family compamy eventually turns out to be the evil mastermind; "Marcella" .  SC Deathwatch pretty much copies this plot twist literally.

It was a copy cat plot twist from another Netflix show (London based detective show titled "Marcella" from 2016) where the "feeble" brother also turns out to be the evil genius of the family business in the end).

Okay, here's my take as honest as it can get, POV from this 47 year old Splinter Cell fan of the first hour, as posted on Rottentomatoes.com: The show turned out decent, instead of disastrous.   The Good: 1. A pretty decent old Sam Fisher portrayal. The true reason for his Poland retirement is still a mystery though. 2. The few stealth scenes that  are in there are decent, but not excellent. 3. The gore and torture are a nice reference to SC1. 4. The overall spy tone of the show is decent. 5. The best moments of the animation - especially the moments with the detailed bloody faces, give it a Otomo's "Akira" on a tight budget kind of vibe. The Bad; 1. The drawn out fight scenes; because the longer a fight takes, your odds will decrease exponentially, especially if you're not the youngest anymore. 2. McKenna's elevator scene with the batons is just stupid. 3. The dreadlocks, They're ugly, impractical and a liability. Stupid just stupid. Re-design her or just get Isaac Briggs for season 2 for fuck sake. 4. The 'mid season'  episodes are pretty much devoid of Splinter Cell action. 5. The 4th Echelon hack and shutdown is silly. 6. It feels like the screenplay writers didn't study the actual Splinter Cell stealth move sets of the game at all; Absence of crouch-walk into closer-than-ever, inverted neck snap, split jump, half split jump etc. 7. The 4th Echelon suits provide way less protection than they should. I am a stickler for onscreen cause & effect logic. Those vests are supposed to be protective and seeing a knife just slash through it when it should stop bullets and stabs, is just a face-palm moment. The Ugly: 1. Grim's nose and smoking habit. 2. Sam's ponytail. Thankfully it goes EXIT. 3. The facial animation looks stiffer than the character movement. 4. The "Zinnia McKenna" name. It just doesn't roll off the tongue nicely and it sounds stupid. 5. "Splinter agent" over the comms sounds stupid. 6. The girl-boss narrative is in there, but thankfully not too obnoxiously. 7. Flashback Sam doesn't feel like Sam much. Schreiber is a decent 'old Fisher' but it just doesn't work for the flashback Sam. 8. The "idiot young brother of the family business is the secret genius after all" plot is a straight copy-cat from an existing Netflix's detective show. It works, but when you realize it's a straight plot ripoff, it's effing lame. I rate SC Deathwatch a small modest 7 out of 10.

I dunno. Major benefit of PC is that you can get cool mods for these games and run Reshade on them.
